OLD and GRUMPY

I am trying to drive out the rear sight on my Ruger LCP MAX. There are no set screws.I have pulled the slide. I have the brass punch and a bench block to work on. It does not want to move from left or right. Short of buying a sight pressing tool any tips before I just get a bigger hammer ???. Don't care if the old sight gets messed up. Thanks.

I've had good luck using this contraption.  For me, it's a more controlled version of your hammer and brass punch  ;)

I tend to hit my fingers, the slide, the bench, etc.  :o

If it will not move for you using a mallet and punch then you are doomed to get a sight pusher of some sort.

.

Have you checked out the inside of the slide, under the sight, for any pinning or other means that will keep the sight from moving ?

I'd try a little pinpoint heat there to see if the expansion/contraction loosened things up.

Heat will also help soften any adhesive if the sight's been epoxied in place.
Be careful if you follow the masses - Sometimes the M is silent

No pins or screws inside or out. My LGS can do it for me. I spend lots of time and cash with them. They do small things for me at no charge. It's good for business. --OH! That reminds me I need to pick this up from them today. ;D Some say they are junk but for the price I will play with it and if I no like will flip it and get something else. https://palmettostatearmory.com/garaysar-fear-116-12-gauge-20-5rd-semi-auto-shotgun-black-fear116blk.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=daily_deals&utm_campaign=am&utm_term=03-26-2024&utm_content=516551639134    Comes with a full set of chokes.

I'm looking forward how you like it after shooting it some. Only thing with me is I can't handle a 12 gauge anymore.

My Levergun shooting friend, Steve, up in Wyoming is the one who makes these great little tools.

I remind everyone that you drift them out left to right.
To install it should be Right to Left.
