Haven't been onboard here for awhile but noticed Unc's posts when I visited it again yesterday. Like the popular old TV host Art Linkletter said in a book he wrote that, "Old Age Is Not for Sissies". How right he was!

I'm 76 and was healthy all my life until about 3 years ago. I noticed my breathing getting a little wonky. I'm a Marine Corps Viet Nam vet and after a VA visit they prescribed some Albuterol inhalers. That helped.

Even though the inhalers helped, my breathing became more and more of an issue. Finally the breathing got so bad I had to go to the emergency hospital. They had me stay for a week while they took all kinds of tests. They finally found out the calf in my right leg was full of blood clots and had worked their way into my right lung. How the hell does that happen?

Anyway, they said I needed an immediate operation as my right lung was being eaten up by the abscesses caused by the blood clots. The operation took out 1/3 of my right lung and thankfully was a success. The doctor said he was afraid I might survive the operation. Luckily I did. 👍

Even after all this, I'm still having breathing problems and it sucks! All I can say is hang in there Unc and I will too. To all you younger guys with all your wonderful recommendations, DON'T GET OLD!! 😄

Ya, gebe,
You know how I feel. I do still have most of my innards but the rest of the body is shot.

Breathing problems just gotta be one of the worst . Myself my abbreviations are COPD. That and one terrible knee which needs replacing but wont for the time being and the second one soon to follow .Working and jumping on cement done those in . Then theres the old kidney stones which have been my problem for 35-40 years . Carpel tunnel in both wrists not too bad as of yet . All those are my biggest more immediate problems . And we suppose to be able to enjoy retirement yeah right , my car can drive to all my doctors by itself I bet . Did I mention tripping and breaking my right upper arm at the ball up top , snapped the ball off and broke it into three pieces .. Oh yeah getting old I'm surprised I've made it this far . One thing though the older I get the closer I feel to GOD . ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

That was the problem. They DID reach my lung. That's why they had to remove 1/3 of it. No matter.

When you get old you realize all these possessions you collected during your life are not yours, you're just babysitting them. They sure were fun to accumulate and maybe still are but in the end, they're only temporary just like us.

I wish you all peace and good health!

Man, OV you should be honored your still hanging in there and your post ended wonderfully. Thank you for that.

To anyone that may not know, struggling to breathe is the worst! I crashed my motorcycle at 90 mph in my '20's and was laid up for a good while. I know what physical pain is but nothing can compare to shortness of breath.

i know that. i meant that even one of those blood clots that reached your lung could have killed you. you are lucky thus buy a lottery ticket. if the blood clot went to your heart or brain it would have been catastrophic

Understood and I'm glad they didn't. Wonder why they attacked my right lung and not both? Your correct in that I am lucky. The surgeon told my wife he didn't think I would survive.

No matter what your health is like today, enjoy every minute of it, because the day will come when it starts to fail.
Take a hand full of minis today and go to your shooting spot and shoot them. It was said that you don't own them. You are just the caretakers of the minis. One day, they will go to someone else.

Well I done it.
About 3:00 am this morning I woke and had to pee (curse those water pills). I reached over and pulled my little roll around chair up next to the bed. I eased my big behind over to the chair like I have done dozens of times. Problem????
I only got one cheek on the chair so it rolled away from me and I smacked the floor like a big ball of pizza dough.
That was the first time anything like that has happened. We found out real quick that there was no getting up without help. We agreed to call 911. They were there in about 10 minutes. The wife let them in and showed them the bathroom where I was lounging on the floor like I was on vacation on a sandy beach. One of them asked me what the problem is.
In the best old woman voice that I could muster up, I said "Help, I have fallen and I can't get up." They lifted me up got a good laugh at my expense. Filled out some paper work and left.

That was my night.

Wife is still cussing because I missed the chair and got her up.

Dang Unc thats a great description of a typical pee adventure gone haywire , like the pizza dough thought . Not too long back I thought I was further in on the mattress and rolled over only to find myself nose to nose with the floor , that was a quick wake up call , terrazzo floors are harder than they look .  ;)  ;)

The wife fights for room. I try to sleep right on the edge so I don't wake her up. Well 2 times smacking the floor  and I now have a guard rail on the top half of my side of the bed.
