3 things when camping

My wife is not a fan of camping so most of my outings have been solo over the years, and that's okay. Now that I'm retired I enjoy heading out knowing I don't have to report back to work come Monday. There's nothing like siting by an open fire on a crisp cool night and gazing up at the Milky Way. I'm always amazed at all the night sounds of various nocturnal animals. There is a bird that sounds like a typewriter that chatters all through the night. Coyotes howl and the deer honk.
Anyway I have three things I must have when camping.
My NAA 22 mag Earl for defense but not to kill.
My Gerber Steadfast for chopping wood, cutting bait and gutting fish.
My Leatherman Rebar multitool for all other needs in camp.

Anvil,
I remember that (many) years ago when I suggested to my bride about camping.

I told her that it would be fun because as a boy,I used to live in the woods.

Her reply  :When you were a boy, everyone lived in the woods"

TD,
Shortly after we got married (1973), I took the wife camping for the first time to a lake about 30 miles from town. I set up camp, got the fire going and about to grill some steaks. I told her about laying back and watching the sky and seeing the Milky Way tonight when we noticed heavy rolling clouds far off in the south just before sundown,
We turned on the radio and sure enough a big storm was approaching. I told her most storms travel to the north east and we should be okay. A half hour later we quickly doused the fire, broke camp and loaded up the truck, then headed back to town, only to be chased at top speed by a F4 tornado!
She said that was it! No more camping adventures for her. ::)
I've been a solo camper for over 50 years now. :(
But still enjoy it.

F4 tornadoes have a way of dampening anyone's spirits for sure.

Sorry that event spoiled camping for her.

My wife enjoyed all of our camping adventures.

Her ashes are scattered by the water's edge of the lake right in front of our cabin in northern Maine hard on the Canadian border. so that way she is in sight of her native Canada.

So sorry for your loss TD! You created a good testament of your love and marriage with her ashes.

Camping is just fine as long as there is a "WAFFLE HOUSE" near by , like across the street . :)  :)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

Not waffles but flapjacks are always on the morning camping frypan menu!
Don't forget the eggs, sausage and american fries! Yummers! ;)
