how do you carry?

I'm old school and prefer leather over all the new materials of today. I have 6 NAA's and 6 leather holsters.
Although I do prefer my Shorty without a holster and simply in my vest pocket at church and other local events.
I also prefer a cross draw holster mostly because it's easier to pull from the sitting position, I.E. my truck and other local sporting events and yes I tend to sit a lot nowadays. :P
One exception is my "small of the back holster" for the Mini Master, it is great for walks but not for sitting.
I tried an expandable sash once as a substitute but the gun pressed too much against my belly.
I have tried just pocket carry and have seen pics of neck carry and really think that would be uncomfortable if not cumbersome.
I have not tried clips or even boot carry but I still think leather is better!

you may not need it but you should have it

Anvil,
Pretty much think the same as I prefer leather for my minis.

What one position works for a person may not be suitable for the other.

I agree that the small of the back position is great for walking but a pain for sitting.

If I were going to carry one of my NAA minis, I would put it in my pocket-just like I do my P32.

Mostly kydex AIWB with hammered guns. Rifles/smg's/ shotties slung with a Tier One Citizen slings and then the pistol goes in our war belt with extra mags, flashlight, multi-tool, gloves and dump pouch. Minis usually in a pocket holster stuffed in rear pocket.

I'm sorry Rogue but I'm an old Scudder and need you to break down what you've stated for me.

Is this your everyday carry? And what is....
AIWB?
smg's?
shotties?
Thanks in advance!

Armybrat,
Nice way to keep things nice and simple.

In that IWB rig,it seems to just vanish.

AIWB = Appedix Inside Waste Band
Smg = Submachine Gun
Shotties = Shotguns

If we carry concealed then it is hammered guns of some sorts in an AIWB holster. If we are carrying a long gun, whether it be a rifle, an smg or a shotgun; then it is slung with a Tier One Citizen sling and our other gear goes in the war belt along with our sidearm.

We always take with us two pistols, a long gun of some sort and a bag with extra mags for everything. See example below:

90% of my holsters are NAA's especially their basketweave pieces , love them . I do oil the devil out of them it changes the color but for the better I always thought . Only regret is they don't have a safety strap or hammer loop strap to cross over and hold tight . I've added my own on some of mine just to not lose in heavy brush or other instances like lounging , squatting , climbing even dropping your draws for those momments of relieving oneself , honestly thats happened . Afterall I want my gun when I reach for it . So many holsters I see without something so important . Dressy holsters all always fun to kill borbum by adding things . Those leather suppliers have all sorts of flashy stuff to attach to your holsters to make them one of a kind . One word on those things (shiney things and such) always (glue) add a small piece of thin ,thin leather onto the inside of the incerts where the gun might touch the backside of the piece you attach to keep from harming the finish of your gun . I know too much info I'm lonnngggg winded .  ;)  ;)  ;)

I think we got the gest of it OV and agree. What oil do you use?
Olive, petrol or vegetable?  ???
I prefer the vegetable  process.
M y dad used gun oil but I think it weakened the leather.

you may not need it but you should have it

OV-1D

Just good old Rem-Oil in a spray can . I've all types but didn't care for smelling like a salad with the others ,Ha . It does three things it lubricates the leather to be softer protects it from soiling and keeps the gun in a state of preservation (lubricated kind of) . Heavy cowhide like what Rick uses just can't be broken down with oiling of anything . Oils with acid infused in it is a no-no of course some do for preservatives . The Rem-Oil I use evaporates over time so reoiling is always needed besides it gives us a reason to fondle our weapons again and again and again etc.etc.  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)  And again . :)  :)

I'm with you OV. RemOil is the best. I once tried WD40 but discovered it was not a rust prevenative.
I also tried a Japanese samurai sword oil but it smelled to me like koi. :-\

Actually, WD 40 is a pretty good rust preventative.

OV-1D

The trouble with that Bill WD-40 leaves a sticky kinda film behind after a long while which can draw moisture in its own right .I use to use that stuff by the cartons upon cartons full on my sliding glass door business like you said its a great lubricator but it did have a habit of collecting dirt and such when it evaporated away . I think you can even cook with it ,Ha ,Ha ,Ha . ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)

Sorry Bill, but not that long ago I set up a test with common carpenter nails in a jar of water. One jar with coated RemOil nails, one with WD40 and one without any coating. Sorry to say that after one month the WD40 turned to rust just as fast as the one with no coating. I have found WD40 to be a good lubricant and cleaner for firearms but not as a rust preventive.
I recommend RemOil or Hoppes for firearm lubricate maintenance.

Anvil,
When I wet to the Glock Armorer's course,I was toold never to use WD-40 as it would gum up stuff for sure.

I think the Glock folks prefer to use Break-Free and very little of that.

WD 40 can make a decent short term lubricant but what it really is, is Water Displacement formula #40. It is a water displacement agent. Given a bit of time it does tend to gum up.

me, i use shirt pocket carry with the original thin suede leather pocket holsters. i just picked up a new two cylinder top break that i am going to shorten by one inch and put a white 90 degree shotgun bead on it. i just like really small firearms as they are my get off me firearms. i am a kinda retired weapons repairman and have the tools to do this project. when it is done i shall post some pics if ya want to see it.   kevin

bill_deshivs

I have used WD40 for 55 years as a steam and refrigeration engineer, a jeweler, a gunsmith, an engraver, a musician, and a cutler.

I have a small bottle that I filled with spray WD40 at least 15 years ago. The carrier evaporated quickly and to this day, all that's left is a thin mineral oil-very liquid. Any oil will attract dirt and grit. Car air filters used to be saturated with oil to make them more effective.

Other tests have shown WD40 to be a good rust protectant.

I use WD40 on my bass guitar strings every time I play. I have 35+ guitars and not one of them is sticky, and it prolongs string life..

Therefore I disagree, and suggest that there are other reasons for these discrepancies-possible misuse of the product? I don't know, but I have long ago proven to myself that WD40 is a pretty good rust protectant-at least for items that are not handled frequently, that it does not gum up (at least any more than any other oil,) and that is a reasonable thin lubricant.

Would love to see some photos when you are finished. Sounds like a very interesting project.

Probably correct. Noticed long ago that while used in a well used AR it attracted dirt we may have been rolling around in and gunked up as well as maybe being a bit too thin for such work. In our opinion; great water displacer/protectant but not nearly as good for hard working guns as some other inexpensive products we have come across.
