.17 caliber research

I've been interested in the .17 calibers for some time so I finally did some research and must say although the ballistics are impressive I have no reason to invest in one. I will stick with my old traditional rimfire calibers.
I really don't need more velocity when downing varmints or more accuracy in shooting paper targets at 50 and 100 yards.
The .17 might be more efficient but I've done really well with the ole .22 LR for decades.  ;D
But then my lovely bride of 51 years thinks the .17 HM2 is really cute! ::)
She favors the 2 shot Bond derringers (has a 2 WMR and a .380 ACP) so I told her if I can ever find one in .17 HM2  I'd buy it for her.  :P

you may not need it but you should have it

OLD and GRUMPY

Don't have a need for one  BUT  would like to play with them. Was looking at the Bond Cyclops in 45/70  ;D .

Old & Grumpy I thought your wrists give you problems or was that someone else ? That 45/70 in that derringer , no matter how big Bond makes them is going to feel like a 12 gauge going off in a NAA frame . Again heres another BIG rifle round being put where it surely doesn't belong . To each their own its your wrists ,elbow ,forehead after gun bouncing back from recoil . Ha ,Ha . ;)  ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

I have a 45/70 in an 1885 rifle and the recoil sends me back. The only way to shoot it in a derringer would be with a sturdy wrist brace! I guess I prefer rimfire for that very reason.

A 45/70 two shot derringer is one way of separating the men from the boys

Theres a point where caliber size is meaningless at close range unless to want to burn them with the blast also . Ridicules to hurt yourself and waste a great round to boot , a 410 buckshot is bad enough for our hands and wrists .  :o  :o

I have a 45/70 in the 1885 High Wall with a 32 inch barrel. I wish it was longer! :(

Myself I have a replica of Quigley's gun 45/120 . I put a rubber butt end on the stock which helped very much so  so it doesn't necessarily destroy my shoulder so to say . I can't believe I have no picture of it . as usual these mini's were all on the mind when the camera was out . Have a fair share of long guns I'll have to break out the camera again sometime . ;)  ;)

Or common sense from foolishness.  :-\
Recoil has never been my friend, that's probably why I'm here! ;D
I love my 45/70 but the heavy weight is the savior.
