My daily rig (Neck Holster). Not near as nice as swolf's  but it gets the job done.

<snip>  I do wonder how long it would take sweat to weaken the steel connections in the chain.

I think the real torture test has already been done in the jungles and deserts of the world around G.I. necks for their dog tags. Granted not the same weight, but critical the tags remain through the most rigorous activities.

So the big question becomes what are Mil Spec chain ratings and where does one buy them without having to purchase by the gross.

lostriver

Stop by the website and check out our neck holsters. They are kydex and hold the firearm very securely.

Here's my Lost River for my .22 short ... I wear it every day.  VERY NICE Holster !
Covers the hammer & trigger nicely ... won't let the cylinder turn out of the safety notch  & the gun WILL NOT fall out of the holster !

VERY nice!!! I especially like the clear as it shows off the Mini and would not contrast with lighter color shirts as the ones in black do.

I got a Lost River neck holster on its way and I also got a stainless steel chain to accompany it. It will be grey kydex of the vertical/horizontal variety for the BW. Looking really forward to this carry setup as it would free up one of my pockets and will be a quick take on and take off set up.

swolf

I like my Lost River holster for my BW.  The TecLoc makes it a pretty nice belt holster too that rides nicely on the rear hip.  The horzontal neck carry is a bit awkward for me, but vertical carry works especially with slip-on grips.

I think the neck holster is confusing me.
Concealed means unseen.  :o
If I had a neck holster and wore it under my shirt, I'd have a lump just below my breasts?
Also, lets just say I'm wearing it this way and some jerk grabs my purse and takes off.
How quick can I get it from there to aim and fire?
I just bought a pocket holster with a clip that I can wear in my pocket or inside the waist band.
I'm feeling like I can get it and aim and fire quickly this way.
Maybe one of you can enlighten me.  :-[
Thanks
Love my little mini almost as much as I love my hubby!

You still with us there teagal , that picture of riverkilt I thought would have run you off for sure . :D :D But I agree with you on this idea those neck holsters ... well just don't seem to practical then again thats only an my opinion .A good waistband holster can't be beat in quickness . Those neck holsters just aren't made for split second grabs .

I think you are probably correct.  I used a pocket hoslter and felt it was the best for quick acquisition.  But my pocket was now useless to me, the neck holster freed up the pocket and the gun is still in reach but I do agree it will not be a fast.  Gun in belt is not as well concealled.

Whenever it's showing in public I simply stick a work rag over it and be on my way .

I don't scare! I don't mean not easy, I mean I don't.
I wear rather snug clothing and skirts are included in the pant dept.
I can't see fumbling to get a hold of a swinging gun -- let alone having to reach under my shirt to get it.

The neck holster is certainly not a quick-draw cowboy (cowgirl?) device, but as some would term "deep concealment."  I don't live in the inner city, so I want a gun with me and as comfortably and conviently as possible.  And on a secondary note--If you shoot someone running away with your purse YOU will be the one in prison and not the scumbag.

So, what are you saying? That movie rules don't apply in real life?

tomhawes2002

As I have been using a neck holster continuously since I acquired my Mini back in early November I believe I can offer a bit of insight. To the largest extent, it depends how you dress/are dressed as to how quick you can access your gun. If you are a T-shirt/untucked shirt kind of person than you can very quickly and easily draw your mini and come to a firing position just by reaching under your shirt, yanking down and coming to a firing position (I practice this fairly often). If you wear your shirt tucked in, like most of us do in an office or more formal environment than you have to grab the lanyard from the top and pull it up so yes it would take a bit more time and maybe a bit more awkward and conspicuous to draw and come to a firing position although probably still reasonably quick. As mentioned by other forum members, two of the primary reasons for using a neck holster, are to free up your pockets and for deep concealment. I might add I also think that as I am a t-shirt and jeans or shorts kind of guy when im not working I find it a very practical and comfortable carry method as well. As far as it being a lump below the breasts, I'm guessing for MOST guys this is not a problem as most of us DON'T have the physique to be wearing skin tight shirts, so we tend to wear fairly loose fitting ones. As far as the ladies go, my wife wears a neck holster, but has it adjusted so it falls right between her breasts at the same level, so even with tight or form fitting shirts its not obvious and there are no lumps. Hey OV-1D I manged to slip "Breast" in this posting "3" times lol. Just my two cents worth.

I've never seen anyone use this type of holster on t.v., movie screen or real life.

I don't wanna go religious on ya's out there but I would rather wear a crucifix around my neck than a .22 . Have more faith in the Cross . Now on my waist I have a totally different concept a beautiful ultra lite Kimber 45 acp . Now thats confidence in believing .

If I were a woman (or more feminine) I would carry a concealment purse.  I've seen some very fashonable, compact ones with great breakaway flaps or quick access sleeves.  Seems like they would be about the fastest access you could have next to a quick draw hip holster.  In South Africa years ago I wore a fanny pack (in style at the time) that had a quick-drop front that exposed the Taurus 357 I packed.  Car jackings and alley ambushes were the threat, and a fast draw response was needed.  I also took groups of kids into the wilds for nature hikes, and needed protection from beasties without drawing unwanted attention from the kids to my gun. I think a neck holster is along the lines of the concealment T-shirts--They are a comfortable way to have a weapon with you always, but not the best choice for high threat environments.

OV-1D

Thats exactly how I carry my Kimber in a fanny pack sort of that slips on my belt over my front pocket . Fashion is in the eye of the HOLDER . :) :) :) :)

I've seen this before and no thank you.
It appears to be very uncomfortable.
I have enough to keep the girls in line.
Let alone a gun dangling below them.

Also want to add. The woman in the video seemed to have to
take a bit more time to grab her weapon than say reaching into
the pocket or waist band.
That's just my opinion.
Other ladies can get whatever works best for them.

I'd agree with Teagal that waistband/belt or pocket carry makes more sense than neck/bra carry.

On the other hand, there are some situations where the optimal carry system is not usable, so you've got to switch to a less optimal carry method to get by.  That's where the funkier options really start to shine.

As far as neck holsters go, I'd be reluctant to carry anything heavier than an NAA mini, for fear that it would slip out of the holster.  The heavier guns also require a heavier chain or cordage, and I don't want to put anything around my neck that might strangle me.  Call me old-fashioned, but I like breathing. ;)

Good thing you aren't a woman.
The first thing they take from a woman is her ------- PURSE!
Not only is your money gone but so is your weapon.

I got a little holster that fits in my pocket and clips onto my waist band
when I don't have pockets.

Yep.  They like to cut the strap so you've got nothing to hold onto.  Whic proabably explains my own reluctance to adopt the man-purse for CCW despite the badass Maxpedition models.

I've always been a "The Lord helps those who help themselves" kind of guy.  Choosing not to defend yourself, IMOHO, is like tempting God to call your bluff.

I'm also reminded of this: "Let he who does not have a sword sell his cloak and buy one."  We live in an uncertian world, and I believe in being prepared.

That cross might have some bearing on what happens in the afterlife, but it's not a deflector shield.  Would you expect God to keep you alive if you stopped eating?  If you stopped breathing?  If not, then why would you expect God to protect you if you abdicate your duty to defend yourself or your loved ones?

The bottom line is that the gift of free will means that we can choose to change our destiny, but it also means that we are stuck with the consequences of our actions (or our inactions, for those who refuse to do anything for themselves).

I've always felt that the "Let God take care of it" mentality was a sign of spiritual laziness.  It's easy to do nothing... to sit back and say "if God wills it".  But it takes real effort to recognise your weaknesses and change yourself.

And this isn't just a religious thing, either.  There are plenty of non-religious folks who just half-ass thier way through life and refuse to accept any responsibility for taking care of thier own needs (which is one of the major reasons this country is in such trouble).

And I mean no offense to you, OV-1D.  I just wanted to offer an alternative viewpoint.  Ultimately, each of us make our own spiritual journey, but I just felt I had to get that off my chest.

My apologies for the thread hijack. :P

OV-1D

Just guess I'm blessed for not being put into any such situations and maybe thats part of it . No foul there PJ just hope we all stay safe one way or another .
