Smoot grips

I have never seen the Smoot pistol before and if you look at their grips they chose to have a ring of metal show on their grip fit.  Which do you like better flush fit or rim of metal?  I think the sidewinder did neither well but could easily be made into a Smoot style?

The 3rd model 'saw handle grip' Smoot had a conventional grip coverage. I have a 1st and 3rd saw handle and prefer the latter. To me it looks better and does feel better to my hand. The grip panels were an early type of plastic and it is common to find Smoots in good condition but with one or both panels broken.
