MadHat quality with a flair!  Sold gun to the right guy for sure, he has a mold now to make Sidewinder holsters that fit like a glove.  The basket weave cowboy is just insanely cool!  Picture worth a lot of words.

His name is Ed Fisher, email [email protected].  He added the serial number of my SW on the pocket holster, nice touch.   These actually look better in person!

Great looking holsters.
What is that leather piece with what looks to be the back of a leather snap on the cowboy holster?

cedarview kid

Are  you talking about the thumb-break snap? Or the piece that creates a "pocket" to sew the clip on?

ikoiko

Thumb break snap. Didn't see the strap in the picture of the front of the holster, so different holster I guess.

cedarview kid

No, I think it's the same one. The snap is on a double-thick piece of leather on the back. It gives it something to really catch your thumb on. I also think it makes it easier to snap it back together. It's a nice design! ;)

ikoiko

I just zoomed in on the front picture and can now see it's a thumb break.
Does he make that in a design that allows for strong side carry and as a cross draw driving holster?

cedarview kid

You might look on eBay and see if he has that option already available. If he doesn't, I'm sure he could accommodate the request.

Not the nice of work as the kids but nice find.  I found this holster at a store it was new and sold as a knift shieth. I add the leather for the hammer and the star but i think that it fits the LR Buntline great

Wow, nice Lee! I still really like my Patriot Joe Huckleberry Rig for my Hogleg, but that's sweet!

Uncle_Lee

I may have to get a Huckleberry Rig for my odd Hogleg.
I like those also.

Head to head comparison, MadHat vs The Kid.  I used a MadHat for my BreakTop carry for a year so with the BT retirement and the SW now on duty, a comparison is natural.

1. Quality of materials - the same
2. Quality of construction - the same
3. Design MadHat is curved right handed or left handed.  The Kid perfectly straight ambidextrous

Very different shapes.  MadHat cool curves, but usually turned in my pocket butt down,  The Kids squarer design seems to be keeping it upright.

Leather embossing adds a design element on the Kid's that is cool.

A real dead heat.  Both are top quality.  If the Kid continues to keep the gun butt up, that would be a big plus but may be the type of pockets I wear.

MadHat nowhere to be found,   The Kid is making holsters, and turnaround is very quick.

ikoiko

The stitching on the Madhat appears finer, and burnishing more complete, but I really like the Kid's work. Will be ordering from him, and hopefully he is open to some custom work.

Thanks for the comparison.

for those interested the absaroka kid is working on a pocket holster for the sidewinder with an ammo pouch built in. will check and advise.

I like the Kid's better...... not by a whole lot but still better.

I tend to agree, the Kids also functions better in the pocket for me.

Where the Kid has no equal is on this embellished cowboy holsters.  The etching covers the entire surface without flaw and on mine three colors brown, black, and a orangey straw weave.  It really is a peice of art.  Got to find a way to include it in my cased set.  This picture actually does not do it justice.

Definately a piece of artwork right there , beautiful.

The sleeper with the Kid is the Boot form fit.  It is a little bigger than the standard pocket holster and I really like that.  I have been using it for my pocket, sits up a little higher, just works or me.  It is my standard carry, besides the neck hoster.  The Kids pocket definitely excellent at keeping the gun upright for grabbing.  I have had a lot of issues with others turning down on me.

cedarview kid

I should have a Pocket Kid tomorrow, too. I'll post some pics. I'm also getting some other cool Kid leather tomorrow. I'll post pics and review here!

blazinwv

Love his work! And I appreciate the pics and reviews. I just ordered one of these beauties.

I guess I'm too young to get the Roy-Rogers outfit reference. Did somebody actually sell clothing branded with the Roy Rogers name?

I met Roy Rogers once in 1985 or so at his museum in California. Terribly nice guy, but very short. I'd guess he was about 5 foot 5 inches. I'm five-seven and I was taller than he was. Maybe he lost height in his old age. He wouldn't stop smiling and talking and seemed to be having a ball meeting with fans (my parents knew him more than I did, obviously).

I do seem to recall he was wearing cheesy movie western wear, but it's been a long time. I've never seen the picture we took with him. Maybe we never got it developed, who knows? But it was fun to meet a "Golden Era of Movies" star, and a fellow Mormon at that. LOL.
