Went shooting with The Earl of Grantham

His Lordship has a 3" barrel and was wearing the LR cylinder.

The 3" barreled Earl looks great and has actual sights, sights better than his brother Shorty.  The Earl's larger grip size and boot grip help too.  Before shooting, the Earl felt like it would be very easy to shoot well.  Shooting confirms this is true, it is very easy to get good hits with the 3" Earl.

22 LR is nice shooting, Remington Golden Bullet hollow points were used for LR shooting.  The noise level is rather high.  22 Shorts are milder, Remington Golden Bullet solids were fired and were a joy to shoot.  These RGBs are a hot short load.  I did not try Short CBs but have high hopes for them in the Earl, they sure shoot great in Shorty.

"Look, good against remotes is one thing. Good against the living? That's something else." ―Han Solo.

The Earl did great against a silhouette but results against living grasshoppers were hard to judge.  We are in a dry spell and it was a bitterly cold day (in the 60s), so there were few grasshoppers and those found were small and skittish.  Remington Golden BBs blew a good sized hole in the ground, ejecting dirt with enough velocity to scatter grasshopper remains.  Did the Earl "get some"?  It is hard to tell but my guess is probably not.  Short CBs will be better for insect hunting because there is more chance of finding remains.

Build quality is superb on this Earl as is fit and finish.  There are far fewer sharp edges than on Shorty and those that are there are easily dulled with a sharpening stone.  I did the usual crown touch up before shooting.

Conclusion: shooting is fun, especially with NAA revolvers.

PS, there is a way of slipping the Earl into the pants so that he is almost impossible to notice but it also points him at important places of the anatomy.  His handle rides under the belt but above the cloth waist band of the pants.  Besides that, it is very easy to forget he is there, until you bend over or sit and feel the hammer spur dig in.  Draw is fairly quick from this location.  Still, my advice is to not use this type of carry.

The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday

Been shooting grasshoppers for years.  I posted this before, but I spent part of an afternoon last fall, shooting flies  that were by a pile of fish remains that somebody threw away by a creek. Range was about 7 yards, and my best shot if I remember right was four flies with one shot. Now you see them, now you don't!
Sometimes when the old back road ditches have standing water in them they have bugs zig-zaging in the water. Gone!
