I don't like carrying around a big plastic cartridge box when I go shoot my minis, especially .22 mag. They are bulky in the shirt pocket.

I'll start this off with the 10 round "quick strip."

The second is a cheap pellet pouch, but it works just fine for rimfire. I have one and use it for both, you can separate stuff with ziplock bags that are open with the tops folded down.

Don't forget the pouch to carry those speed strips on your belt.

For range use I use a large altoin tin that fits in my back pocket, and a small mint tin for street carry.

Yeah, I use those Altoids tins a lot.  For bulk carry find yourself one of those military NBC decontamination plastic boxes with the lid.  They're waterproof ( or at least water-resistant.)

I recently found a Plano brand plastic fishing lure box that carries a variety of ammo and my extra .22LR cylinder for my 22 mag. Black Widow in a very convenient sized box.  I carry some 22 mag., some .22lr, some Super Colibri sans-powder rounds for real quiet plinking, and a set of foam earplugs along with the above-mentioned 22lr cylinder all in one box.  Handy and fits in the side pocket of a pair of cargo pants. It's perfect for hiking and backpacking.

I am an avid user of altoids tins and ABSOLUTELY love the suggestion about the small ones. I had not heard yet about the Plano case to hold a cylinder. I'll be looking into that; it sounds good. And yes, rog*, I need a speed strip pouch. I'd just tumble them in a shirt pocket at the moment. It's nice to keep gear locked down.

I'm glad I started this thread, I have learned something. I'm also glad that I have contributed because that pellet pouch is one of my most versatile field carry items. I have taken much small game and killed many empty cans with it. I hope other users have learned as much as I have. I think the best threads are when you both give and receive, hopefully those who follow after can gain wisdom.

Is anyone really reading? Do you know? Why don't you get into rimfire, pellets, primers, and minis? It is a very rewarding pursuit. All of those who already know, I welcome you as kindred. This stuff works better than you think if you sit down and try to master it. I think one of the greatest NAA names of a pistol is the "mini master." It can be versatile in the extreme, with a bit of extensive knowledge.

I really hate carrying the "large" 50 round plastic factory boxes of .22 mag ammo. I'm really happy to hear some solutions that the "veterans" have come up with!

My respect goes out to the forum. Thanks, everyone!

I have made a couple of small flat pouches that hold about twenty rounds of LR or Shorts for when I am out walking and may want to stop and do a little plinking. With all the other stuff in my trouser pockets, I like to be able to slide ammo into my shirt or vest pocket. If I am going to the range or in my kayak, then I have to say that those plastic CCI and Remington boxes are very handy. Especially for NAA Minis since the boxes are shaped to allow five rounds at a time to fall into my hand.

Where did you get that ammo??   LOL :'(

I use an old prescription bottle with a screw on lid.  Holds 20-30 lr and it floats.

Does it float with the ammo in it? It is thicker than the small tin I'm carrying, ut that would be a great benifit.

Altoid tins are great. I use one for my MP3 player and headphones, one for the amplifier (for the car, the Walkman is not a high powered device) and a mini to carry 10 extra rounds (a layer of foam keeps them from rattling around).
The grips are a failed attempt at a boot grip but work pretty well. I tried using the original (one finger) grips but it shot 2 feet high and outside. These brought it back onto the plate.

If I put one in him he would sink.

I use little plastic Q-tip boxes for carrying odd stuff in.

Hey, this looks pretty cool. At first it looks kind of cheap, but it has lots of 5-star reviews--on Amazon, too, tho for a little bit more money. I may get a few for shooting sessions.

It wouldn't by chance be the "I Rub My Duckie" vibrating rubber duck?

Here is something that works well for up to fifteen magnum rounds. A Zeikos MC3A Memory Card wallet. At Amazon they are under five dollars.

Tuff Products makes this nifty ammo pouch that attaches to your belt via a velcro loop and the speed strips made to match. Designed to hold two 10 round strips. Both the pouches and the speed strips are offered in a few different colors if I remember correctly.

That's a pretty nice sensible looking carry piece and the price is o.k. also provided the shipping doesn't take the sense out of it . Wonder if one can find them locally .

Well thanks a bunch to those who contributed on the great gun/ammo carrying strategies and photos.  Now do hate to see the naggin about the Remington Target loads..lol. I supposed to have 3 boxes of 50 delivered tomorrow..lol. Suspect they beat to the proverbial hand full of rocks..when the old caca hits the whirly gig. Appreciate George and Obie permit to find those..lol.  Now if somebody is questioning the manhood of the other batch of bullets..there aint no hope..lol.

TwoGunJayne

This is definitely a great thread. Over time, if people drop a few more gems in here... it could be a classic!

I found something called a "Catch 22".  Holds 50 .22lr in a protective case that clips to the belt and allows removal of 5 at a time:

TwoGunJayne

Oh wow, I'd been looking for those for a long time but forgot what they were called! THANK YOU!

bigwheel

I will take three and the gun for which they was designed to plugged into the handle thereof..lol. Who has known or hear tell about a nasty old shooting exchange in which a mini managed to get itself reloaded? What was happening when the hero was punching out the empties? Enquiring minds need to know stuff like this. Thanks.

Dinadan

Those catch 22 carriers look like a good way to carry ammo when hunting or out walking and plinking.

Mr 22

Somebody else gave a link to order those ammo wallets a few weeks ago. I've looked for those in .22 caliber  in catalogs, stores, and the internet. Anyway I ordered two, one for mag. and one for Long rifle. I also ordered one you carry on the belt for my 380.
Already have them for my 9/mm, 38, and 357. Neat way to carry spare ammo. :)

dbgUSMC

I like the ideas you guys have for carrying ammo! I think I will probably get that "catch 22" and a couple of those memory card holders.

Anyone ever used this type of speedloader from Cabela's? It's says it holds both 22LR and or 22WMR. Kind of the same concept as the catch 22 except this is a tube.

TwoGunJayne

I've always meant to try one of those tube-loaders, but don't have a tube fed rimfire anymore.

You can do a similar trick with large diameter plastic drinking straws (like the kind for big milkshakes that are illegal in New York.) They distribute around your gear nicely. Fold each end over and add a little tape for a waterproof carry. You can even trim them to the desired length (5 rounds plus the fold or whatever.) Cheap enough to be disposable. Very discreet.

Now we know why New York wants to ban large sodas! The citizens could use the straws to carry their spare ammo!

I've found drinking draws in excess of 12 mm wide, as in the pic. "Slush straws," "Frappe straws," etc. Many "custom caliber" sizes are available.

Why do everybody seem to be dodging my inquiry as to how many real life mini reloads are we looking at historically speaking? Suspect there was a few when they had the big biker shoot out in NV a while back. Dont make me get Two Gun over here. He knows how to do math and stuff..I think. Somebody gonna have to show we'uns who have kin who lives near Missouriii. Some of us was did not fall off the turnip truck just yesterday. Somebody needs too come up with some scoop before it come time to take meds. Prob some seasoned citizens need to know how many heart pill might be needed on this kinda deal. Thanks.

Hah! I think that's one of your funnier posts, sir. Glad to know you.

As far as "mini reloading" and the "way it really works," is after the "encounter..." you'd better reload. You don't know that the guy you just won against has 1-8 friends about to "get you." You need every edge you can get after something happens on the street.

One time, I was hassled by a street hustler. I walked around the corner and there were three more telling me to go talk to him.

You don't know when the schnitzel is going down the pipe. I'd say to reload after an incident or encounter that resulted in rounds fired. No spare ammo? If it escalates again, now you've got 1 or 2 shots when you were wanting 5.

When I think I'm in danger or travelling I always carry spare rounds to put in the spare mags/cylinders/whatever if I carry a reload. Do I? Hard to say on the internet, now is it?  :)

bigwheel

Huh? I am here to keep my pals entertained..lol. Yall keep me spitting liquid refreshments on the keyboard quite a bit too sometimes..lol. Gonna have to carry it down to the carwash and give it a rinse one of these days..lol.
