Thanks for the tutorial on Palladium. I am currently going through an old Sears Catalog looking for waist coats. Any suggestion on those?  Do a person need just one or several and what colors? Do it have to match the cummerbund?  What kinda shoes etc? I'm getting excited about this.

Proper etiquette dictates that a cummerbund be worn only when a waistcoat is not worn under a dinner jacket. Hence if you are wearing a waistcoat, no cummerbund is needed.

The waistcoat should match the jacket and or trousers one is wearing. Shoes should match the trousers one is wearing. Usually brown leather with the off colors/browns, greens and tans aka (Earthy colors) and black leather with the darker colors/black,navy and greys.

Ok thanks. This is the best high fashion tips I have got in years. Also thanks to Kevin for the link to the cool old timey clothes place. Got it book marked to tell Santa what to get me some threads..lol. I know what is a vest so shoulda Wikkied up the definition of a waist coat and could have avoided some cornfusion. I was having visions of Fred Astaire dancing with a top hat etc. I only have one suit and it do not get much use. I think the devil invented neckties and panty hose. Also thanks for the proper speeling of cumberbund. My crazy built in checker say it had two MM's. That didnt sound right. Now I will know.

PS Edit..fairly interestng theory on the ammo shortage. Smells like liberal propaganda to me.

A top hat should only be worn with a tail coat, not with a tuxedo, cutaway, three piece suit or tradional business suit.  The Homburg style hat can be worn with any of the above.  The Derby is worn with any of the above except for the tail coat.  Note that if you have a beard with no mustache, like Abraham Lincoln, it is ok to wear a stovepipe style top hat with a cutaway jacket.

Disclaimer, I do not work for this company.  They do make nice hats though.

Well thanks a lot for the formal dress etiquette tutorial..and link to the hats. Walmart has not had a very good selection for the past couple of years. I am currently leaning toward either the Homberg or the Pinch Front. Would that be acceptable for casual use? Think I have some wingtip brogans which would work for the foot wear maybe?

Kentucky Kevin

Funny, never saw my dad in a hat. I really enjoy them

It can be spelled either way. Cummerbund or Cumberbund.

A hat can be worn with just about any class of clothing. Just make sure that it does not outshine the rest of your dresswear. Ex: formal suit coat with a tee shirt on underneath and a pair of overalls and work boots does not go together. If the hat is of a less formal fabric and look it will go with a dressed down sportcoat and even jeans and some casual dress shoes or boots or a leather jacket like Indiana Jones.

A sharp hat finishes a well dressed Gentleman. Do not forget a pair of proper leather gloves.............

Thanks for the info. Was speculating with some folks just the other day about where all the old timey grandpa..Al Capone..Dick Tracy..Harry Truman dress hats had went.  Hey we need a show your hat thread. I have about decided on the Pinch Front. Would that look good with sandals and cut off blue jeans in the summer? I like the sound of it..lol. PS Edit: Ok I was loading up the shopping basket and then they axed me what size from small to XX. I have a real fat head which I think is purty close to around an 8 in Americkan hat sizes..I also have a fat headed son who is at least that too and maybe more so with a fast approaching birthday. Would you suggest XX or XXX for that scenario? ? What is up with the chicom sizing system? Notice they do not come in yellow. Whats up with that? Dick Tracy's hat was bright yellow seems like. I may be getting cold feet on this deal. Naw..I still like it. lol. Should large headed people be allowed to wear narrow brim hats? I wonder about that sometimes.

LOL, I bought a gun recently and the dealer would not budge a penny from the full list price.  I guess I don't blame him; the gun was hard to find and in high demand.  So, he comes out of the back room with the box to ring up the sale and says, "Here, I got you a couple boxes of ammo."

I'm thinking, "Well that was nice.  He couldn't cut the price down so he throws in some ammo.  Works for me."  Then I realize he's ringing up the ammo at full price, too.  I ask him about it.

"Oh, sure.  Limit is one box of ammo unless you're buying a new gun, then we allow you to buy an additional box of ammo but only in the caliber of gun you're buying.  Some people buy an extra gun just so they can buy the ammo."

Now I can't wait to get out of the store and find a toilet somewhere as I'm trying not to poop myself.  Strange times we live in.

Kentucky Kevin

Yea people don't always do what they say. I had a done deal selling ten boxes of winchester 550 rounds at $40 each. Went to pick up the money??? and he says, I can't pay that. It's available at such &such for $37.99 (plus tax) and a round trip of 100 miles ( 3-6 gal of gas). I said thanks and walked with my ammo. I can still shoot it and I won't give it away.

Hat sizing is more often than not a surprise when actually measured and  compared to a chart. Most are not what they thought they would be. Take a measurement to make sure the fine hat you purchase fits as it should.

a good hat company should have a chart for one to measure the diameter of their head and find the appropriate size:

Thanks for the hat sizing scoop. I dug around and found they have a translation table to measure your head with a tape measure. Think it say I only need a XX.  Your right folks dont have as fat of a head as some might think. Unfortunately my plans was detailed when the Warden got wind of the scheme and started nagging about burning too big of a hole in the plastic etc. I can snag it it in a week or two or appears so.  Swear I am fixing to back hand the fire out of that woman some day.

Was the link I gave not to the tape measure chart?

The hats should still be there in that amount of time. LOL

I think it went direct to the hats..then you had to back track to home to find the sizer chart.  They say the site is under construction so may be easier to navigate later. They dont seem to be real vocal about where the straw hats are made. Now they seem to spill the beans on the top hats. Maybe there will be more info about that later.

How about a cane that is really a shotgun? I like those.

Kentucky Kevin

Does anyone know if the swords are up to the normal cold steel quality???

That would fall under the definition of "Any Other Weapon" under the National Firearms Act.

bigwheel

Not any more illegal than sword canes..last I checked anyway.

Kentucky Kevin

I do not believe that sword canes are illegal, they are just concealed.

Illegal to carry in Texas under the State Prohibited weapon statutes..along with pistols tomahawks..dirks..daggers..clubs..knives with blades over 5 1/2 inches long etc (thinking that is what snags it or maybe it mentions swords in general.) Seems to be ok in AZ. Heres a fairly interestng link to a discussion about it.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1019564-Sword-cane-law

The cane guns do seem to be regulated by the Feds. Cant think of any State Laws on that one unless the perp was in a bar or something.

bleak_window

Is this about ammo or haberdashery?

bigwheel

I think somebody started chasing this rabbit whilst trying to find ammo for his/her sword cane. Or it was close to that.

Same thing here in TN. We can carry a handgun or a machine pistol but we cannot carry a long gun or a knife over 4" in blade length or Nunchakus, brass knuckles etc. They are just old laws still on the books but they are still on the books. I think if we have a carry permit we should be able to carry any weapon. They may not enforce them but I still would like to see my carry of a longer blade or a long gun actually be legal.

I'm going to have to look at the statutes now, I believe those to be legal because they are considered deadly weapons,

•Any weapon from which a shot, readily capable of producing death or serious physical injury, may be discharged.
•Any knife other than an ordinary pocket knife or hunting knife.
•Billy, nightstick, or club.
•Blackjack or slapjack.
•Nunchaku karate sticks.
•Shiriken or death star.
•Artificial knuckles made from plastic, or other similar hard material.

we may be a bunch of rednecks, but we can carry some neat shit

A cane-gun is for the most part illegal to carry in SC, because with limitted exceptions, open carry is illegal.  You could have it on your own property, or if a licenced hunter while engaged in hunting, but why would you hunt with one?

A sword cane is ok in SC unless you are carrying it unto the property of a school, perhaps a few other locations are restricted as well.

Check out the Buy-Sell-Trade forum if you're looking for some 22 WMR / MAG rounds.  I'm looking for some specific 32 ACP or 22 LR if anybody wants to consider making a trade, as well...

TwoGunJayne

A lot of concealed weapon statues for States mention double edged blades. This means daggers and false-edge swedge tips, this also means most of your sword canes.

No dagger cane for me in my state, but I get a full no-dachi if I can manage to conceal it somehow. It's either that, or I just open carry it.... or a rifle... or a pistol...

...oh yeah, I also get daggers push daggers bowie knives blackjacks brass knucks and etc if I am performing a certain list of tasks.

TwoGunJayne

Scooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooore!

500 rounds Federal .22 lr. Pre-shortage price. None left.

Awwwwww yeah!  8) 8) 8)

Went to a Cabela's today. Made one last loop through the store and came to a group of people watching a  ammo shipment being put away. No loose bulk packs but was pointed out to me there was some of the ammo cans of 2,100 shells just unpacked. There were 6 of them, then there was 3, and then there was 2, which is what I got. 4,200 shells. Made each 525 bulk pack cost $25 bucks plus tax., plus I got two ammo cans.
Was a lady there waiting to buy one bulk pack, of which there was none. Told her that if she followed me outside I would sell her one bulk pack for what it cost me, which would have been $27.50. Though that was to high.  I tried!
I had just came from a big gun store where there was a brick of Winchester ammo for $64.00.
Anyway, good day being in the right place at the right time, with the right money...

bigwheel

Glad you hit em a lick. Cabelas was the only place I could find any when yall got me to having a panic attack and felt driven to buy some extras. Think I will shoot up the 100 rounds previous mentioned plust the half a box of 40 year old Wildcats which have been proudly being toted around since Old Shep was still just a pup. Not sure what a person could do with all them crazy bullets if the zombies and space aliens decide to cut us some slack. Betcha person can buy em a buck a box at yup garage sales after the gluttonous buying feeding frenzy ceases. Providing the liberals aint lying as usual..which is highly unlikey. Think the cartridges we got is all that George and Obie are going to allow for long time. Just an ominous feeling which is prevalent sometimes.

boone123

Wife and I just picked up 6 bulk packs of Fed. 22 Match Target at Wal-Mart of 325 rounds.  $14.27 plus tax...
Should  be warmer this weekend. Motorcycle gas is cheaper than ammo.
