I usually pocket carry, so it's easy to toss whatever in the glove box if needed, but in KY signs mean nothing except on places that are already unarmed victim zones, schools courthouse police stations...

Urizen

They look pretty good together. All tucked in so I can go into a hospital.

You know, Mr_22, I was thinking about your comment about stupid gun free zones. I think the only time I can see myself not having a problem with the government banning weapons in a specific location is if they make dang sure that not just law abiding, conscientious gun owners are the only people without weapons. Banning guns in hospitals just takes yours and mine away if there's no checkpoint/metal detector at the entrance. Not carrying into a courthouse never bothered me since EVERYONE is checked when they go in.

Believe I watched the interview with the lady you mention who survived the cafeteria shooting at Kellen. Very heart breaking. Apparently there were several gun toters in the crowd who left their guns in the car too. Hey check out Remora Holsters. Oldest boy has one of those and loves it for packing his Kel Tec 9 mm. He let me clown around with it for a while and it held my Sig P 226 snug as a bug in a rug. Its made of some type of material that clings to the inside of your clothes and sticks like glue. its pretty amazing and only costs about 25 bucks.  Heres a link and U tube of it. Might bear taking a look.

Urizen

For 25 bucks, I'd be willing to try it out. I'll put in an order in the next couple of weeks, and let you know how it works out.

OV-1D

Hey there urizen what are you doing with my gun in that picture ? Come to think of it both look just like mine . That Kimber shoots like a dream doesn't it .
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

Urizen

It sure does! Wish I could shoot it more right now. Luckily was able to put enough rounds through it to get comfortable/competent with it before the ammo shortage. Now, I can't afford  to give it the attention it deserves.

MR_22

In the paperwork that came with my new Rock Island 22TCM 1911, the manufacturer recommended that I shoot 500 rounds to break in the gun.

Hahaha, like, how am I going to do that???

OV-1D

Maybe one at a time there MR.22 . Think how long the pleasure will last . :) :)

Imagine that life is an empty bowl. You can fill it with a certain number of grains of rice every day. If you weren't paying attention, you missed your quota. You only have so many opportunities to get those grains to fill that bowl.

How to fill this empty bowl?

Simple. One grain at a time.

You think you could pull off a neck holster for driving and staying hid?  I have one for the long rifle.  It works well, and quality is excellent, I have 3 more lost river holsters on the way after the coupon code he posted.

Urizen

Jw, I think I'll be pocket carrying the sidewinder, but that may work for my wife. I was mainly whining about carrying the 45 iwb while working, and having to take it off and put it back on again.

Urizen

Mr_22, it always makes me wonder when I go to the range on a wednesday at 2pm and there is an hour wait for a lane, where are all these people getting ammo?

My original plan was to start reloading...had a Dillon all picked out and everything...but then I bought more guns instead. Plus, bullets and primers  are nowhere to be found either, even though I've been saving all my fired brass for a while now.

Kentucky Kevin

They saw the writing on the wall in 2008, bought a conversion kit, and stocked up on 22lr and are shooting a bullet for the price of a primer. Called NAA to ask about the IWB for the MM, Sue had personal experience with holster type for carrying a shorter barrel gun. Gotta love it, costumer service that plainly speaks Americanese abd uses the product. Sounds like the holster would work exactly the way I wanted. But, I figured out that my back pocket would also. Glock is to large for comfortable carry when walking on ankle, shows at vest edge, and two snubbies with floppy wobblers don't hit well at 25yds. My 4"MM will.

Save that brass, everyone. It never rots away when it's properly stored. I've got some ziplocks of brass that I don't even have an arm to use. I even save rimfire brass; I'm going to melt my dead brass down some day, make something, and ingot the rest. You can cast brass with plaster of paris, I've got a huge jug of that stuff. Carve or machine your item from delrin or wood (basswood has great carving characteristics) and press it into the plaster as it is beginning to set. If you didn't let the mold cure and dry long enough before you pour you can really hurt yourself. Always proof your molds in a 200 degree oven for as long as you can stand waiting before you pour and pour while they are still hot.

At the very least, it's one less thing to look for when you're loading, even if you don't melt down the worn-out brass.

RogueTS1

You can sell it for scrap also and get a pretty penny for it. Brass is a valuable metal.

Brass currently running only slightly less than silver last I heard. Way ahead of copper.  The aluminum cased stuff..Blazers was gaining popularity at one time. Generally being the major draw back was it could not be reloaded. Do anybody know the current state of affairs on that stuff?  Surely the smarty pants scientists are hot on the trail of a plastic that can to do the trick. Who knows? Rocket propelled bullets was supposed to be on the drawing board too. Wonder what happened on that deal?

Gun store by me had a pallet each of aluminum cased 45,40,38sp, 380, and 9mm last saturday. 9mm was gone, but the rest was still there a couple days later.

I think we're actually better off here in NE Ohio than in a lot of other places.  I feel like I didn't notice the shortage for a month after everyone else was talking about it.

Urizen

Got home from work early enough to take the sidewinder out to the range.  It worked great, was a ton of fun to shoot and was surprisingly accurate. I'm going to have to play around with the sight picture a bit. It seemed to shoot high at 7 yards.

Cci maxi-mags worked great, the Armscor ammo did not. Once I shot 1 or two rounds, the cylinder wouldn't turn. It was like something was obstructing it.  When I looked at the fired casings, it looked like the bottom may have been  bowed out just slightly. I'm guessing that's what caused the problem.

I also shot a few rounds of hornady critical defense 45 gr ftx, which also worked well. I was lucky enough to buy the last 2 boxes in stock at gander mountain today.

I didn't notice any tumbling at 7 yards.

boone123

On selling brass.
I have sold  30 gallons of 22 brass in the last couple of years, and have 7 or 8 gallons setting in the garage.
Don't know what it is worth right now, but got $54 bucks for the last 5 gallon pail full.
Would have more but get semi auto spells sometimes. Its kind of like a rebate plus no brass left
laying where I stop and shoot.

Kentucky Kevin

I've gotten lazy on policing my brass

I was just trying to figure out how many 500 rd bricks would fit in a 5 gal bucket. Have to get out my slide rule for that one.

boone123

I don't know if there is any kind of a recovery program for shooting addicts, but I could probably use one. One of these days I am going to weigh a small amount of brass on a reloading scale and figure our how many are in a 5 gallon bucket.
I stopped smoking in 91 so I have all that saved money to spend on ammo. I am trying to spend it faster than it is depreciating.
Its a hel( of a race.
The good thing is I am having fun. The bad thing is, sometimes I miss my target. Makes me want to go back and do better. That causes more spent brass. I shoot mostly from about 10 yards to over 150 yards. Never the same for over a few shots. Factor in side winds and it just ups the challange. If my shooting entailed always shooting at a paper target at say 25 yards every time, I would have stopped saving brass a long  time ago, because I wouldn't have had any.
Its almost motorcycle weather so that will give me some time to build up my ammo pile so by fall I can start saving brass again.
Its just one of those jobs that somebody has to do.
Sorry for the long post, its an addict thing...

OV-1D

If times persist your going back to smoking I'm afraid boone .

Hey Boone..feels your pain on the addictions. I am on step 25 on the 12 step program for those addicted to comp bbq cooking. Now that one can hook a person in the jaw like a hawgy bass..lol. Very deep money hole that needs filling on that too. Could compete with Golfing and Scuba diving on the expense part.
Hey Urizen..thanks for the report on the aluminum ammo and the range report. Since I aint going to reload anything if I can help it..will be glad to have the Aluminum models if they work as good as the brass models. According to my calculations those super fast bullets should be hitting low if they decided to hit in the wrong place. My mini shoots low with slow pokey Wildcats which that dont sound right neither. Sure wished I could recall who borrowed my slide rule..lol.

Yeah the Al cased rounds functioned fine in everything I've shot them out of.

The sidewinder shot high with the cci maxi mags and the hornady critical defense. The couple rounds of armscor that I was able to shoot were a bit lower, but still high. I think I'm just going to have to play around with the sight picture, and maybe the ammo (but right now I'll take whatever I can get) to get it right.

Urizen

Just ordered the "shark fin" pocket holster from The Absaroka Kid. I'll let you know how I like it once I get it.  Anyone have any suggestions for pocket or IWB holsters for the sheriff? Need to find one for the wife.  Looks like they don't make a Flashbang bra holster for that one. I'm going to have to buy another mini so she can use that flashbang holster she likes so much.

bigwheel

Well I gave the Warden the link to the bra holster. She dont think she wants one. Afraid it make her breastes droop worse or something along those lines. Guess she can stick with the eyeglass case with the rubber band around it.

IT TAKES ME DAYS TO RUN THRU ALL THE opps cap loc sorry  run thru all the stuff in these forums read and decide how to respond to all the stuff in here. Oh welcome Urizen sorry that was what Im doing here LOL . Hey were all buying guns lets hope we can keep them.I really hope we don't have just a bunch of readers here. It only takes a min or 3 to go to your states websites and send a message to all your representatives, Your congressmen, Senators, and all your legislators, telling them you have had enough and not to vote any new gun laws.Tell them to enact the laws already on the books before making new laws that don't do a dam thing but hurt the innocent law abiding citizen. If your not keeping up with the news were losing in DC and if we don't do something their gonna take your mini's and everything else. My motto is  "REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER" VOTE! But its more critical now then ever before to get on the horn and let these idiots in Washington know how we feel.Send emails make phone calls DO SOMETHING!!!!!.

Kentucky Kevin

I left some messages this weekend, thought there was good points here

http://www.survivalblog.com/

I am quite concerned that S. 649 ("The Public Safety And Second Amendment Rights Protection Act") might be approved by the Senate. A filibuster attempt failed. So now the only viable chance of stopping it is to cram it full of "Poison Pill" amendments. Please contact your Senators TODAY, and urge them to load up this bill with as many amendments as possible, to block its passage. My suggested amendments are: 1.) Redefine an "Antique" gun as any gun over 80 years old ((t is currently frozen at an arbitrary 1898 threshold), 2.) Re-open the NFA registry, allowing new transferable machineguns to be produced. (Their number has been artificially frozen since 1986.), 3.) Require States to recognize Concealed Carry permits issued by other States, under the Equal Protection Clause. 4.) Require Federal agents to register with County Sheriffs before conducting an investigation and fully document their probable cause or reasonable suspicion before carrying out an investigation in any County., 5.) Reduce the Federal tax on machineguns, short-barreled shotguns, short-barreled rifles, and suppressors from $200 to $5, 6.) Change the definition "gun show" in the bill from 75 guns to 500 guns, 7.) Exempt antique guns from S.641's gun show, Internet advertising, and print advertising restrictions, 8.) Exempt any gun more than 10 years old (those guns which are long out of "Interstate Commerce") from S.641's gun show, Internet advertising, and print advertising restrictions, 10.) Allow Open Carry of firearms on all Federal property, and 11.) Allow "Swiss Style" storage of military issue firearms, allowing active duty, Reserve, and National Guard servicemen to store their weapons in locked containers at home.

MR_22

The mis-named gun bill that's currently in the Senate is starting to hit some snags. Oh, dang! It seems that just because a filibuster was voted down, it doesn't mean it's going to pass. See the below news story for more info.

Quote1.) Redefine an "Antique" gun as any gun over 80 years old ((t is currently frozen at an arbitrary 1898 threshold),

...or any replica thereof!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote2.) Re-open the NFA registry, allowing new transferable machineguns to be produced. (Their number has been artificially frozen since 1986.),

Yes! That would be a huge win!

Quote3.) Require States to recognize Concealed Carry permits issued by other States, under the Equal Protection Clause.

Reference "reciprocity," which already has large penetration. Not so big here.

Quote4.) Require Federal agents to register with County Sheriffs before conducting an investigation and fully document their probable cause or reasonable suspicion before carrying out an investigation in any County.,

This already gets Feds arrested in my State and my County. 3 agents last year, alone.

Quote5.) Reduce the Federal tax on machineguns, short-barreled shotguns, short-barreled rifles, and suppressors from $200 to $5,

Agree, this takes down AOW by $200 on the purchase price. I want my Serbu Super Shorty.

Quote6.) Change the definition "gun show" in the bill from 75 guns to 500 guns,

WRONG!!!!!!! It falls under "peacable assembly" under the Bill of Rights. Wrong wrong wrong.

Quote7.) Exempt antique guns from S.641's gun show, Internet advertising, and print advertising restrictions,

WRONG!!!!!!!! It falls under "freedom of press" under the Bill of Rights.

Quote8.) Exempt any gun more than 10 years old (those guns which are long out of "Interstate Commerce") from S.641's gun show, Internet advertising, and print advertising restrictions,

Soon to be invalid in my state. A certain reprehensible representative was instrumental in killing the bill this year, but it's getting tried next time.

Quote10.) Allow Open Carry of firearms on all Federal property,

I can do this in my state with an "Enhanced Carry Permit," why can't you??

Quote11.) Allow "Swiss Style" storage of military issue firearms, allowing active duty, Reserve, and National Guard servicemen to store their weapons in locked containers at home.

Legal in my state and we are working on passing a law that permits any serviceman to apply for a CCW.

This is what you want above and beyond all else? Why is it that I have half of this where I live as it stands at the moment?

I'm not being mean. Really. Really. Seriously. Just sayin'. I mean it.

HUH!?!?!?!?
