I have assembled all the component paperwork for a Florida CCW License, except the fingerprint card.

My local Police Chief, (a good friend), is of the opinion that a FP card needs to be electronically transmitted directly to FDLE, and that an "ink 'n roll" will no longer suffice.

I have emailed Florida Department of Licensing with this question, and have received a very ambiguous answer.  To wit: "The fingerprint card only is sent to FDLE and the FBI.  All other paperwork is evaluated by the Florida Dept. of Lic."

I still don't know whether the FP card is sent along with the other required paperwork, of whether it needs to go directly to FDLE, (and thence the FBI) by direct transmission / mail.

Anybody with recent experience-  I could really use your help.

   Thanks in advance.

Get a regular print card, and send it along with the application just like the instructions say.  It goes to FBI as well as FDLE and they use inked cards as far as I know.  If your local police have gone digital, try having them print out the results for you.  There is nothing magical about the card.  As long as it contains the same information and is marked the same way as the card they included in your package (so it does not indicate an arrest) it should work.

Best thing would be to call the dept that issues the cwp and ask.  In Florida it is the Dept of Agriculture that issues them.  Says so right on my permit.

There should be no reason they cannot process the standard card unless your local PD is *ahem* too overworked *ahem* to process it.  I just received my non-resident packet and they ONLY accept ink cards for out of state permits.

In my experience, with the ink-less electronics you just roll your fingers on a glass scanner and the tech can save the results he/she is most happy with. Then you receive a printed copy which goes into the packet with everything else. The Dept.Ag should direct the card to FBI or wherever it needs to go.

If there is some sort of direct method of transmission it may speed things up I suppose but I would worry about things getting crossed or confused in the process.

   Good luck.

If you live in a "local Police" area they may still have the standard ink print cards. Your local Police chief is feeding you a ball of beans! Regular old ink print cards have been the standard for decades and still are. some of the bigger Police have scanners but for someone to tell you that ink prints are not acceptable or outof date is a complete fallacy. I just updated my permit to an automatic ok when I buy a pistol with the FEDERAl SYSTEM and they took my old school prints with no questions asked.

I have experienced issues with local PDs in the past having tried to quell permits and FFLs. A simple call to the judges office will fix that in a jiffy! Some local Police Chiefs think they are the end of the line for this and when the judge finds out it ends really quick! As Barky said, follow the instructions and do not listen to those that tell you to do something other than the instructions do. It is their sad attempt to get you to lose your license. There are a lot of really BIG dikheds out there........!

heyjoe

there also may not be that many officers left who have done ink prints. very easy to smudge if you dont know what you are doing.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

I took a concealed weapon class with my wife last year. The fingerprint cards that the class instructors created for my wife were absolutely terrible, but mine weren't half bad. Utah BCI sent me a notice that I needed to submit a new card or my permit would immediately expire. They said nothing about my wife's.

   Go figure, eh?

(At Utah BCI, they took my prints digitally without any ink, but then printed them onto a card. Weird.)

it was my understanding that the digital version is for federal database, if the card is still being used it is for local use... that was what I got told anyways, dont know how reliable they little dude was lol... he may want his $20 back from bigfoot

I appreciate all the suggestions-  Thank you all!

My Chief has ink rolled me three times-  RE Sales, RE Broker, and CAM Lic's. so I don't think laziness or sloppiness are involved.  I guess Police Chiefs can get bad info like the rest of us.

   Thanks again.

You can call one of the Agricultural centers aroun the state and make an appointment. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks to get in but they do everything there for you. If you were in the service you can wave the ccw class just take your dd 214 with you. I did this and eliminated all the running around.

I should have closed out this thread.  Sorry....

Thanks to some good advice and a little leg work, I got all the component parts of my application together, and mailed it off to the Florida Dept. of Agriculture. My CCW Permit arrived two weeks to the day later!  Pretty good service for a State Agency, no?

Thanks for your advice.  I'll pass it on to anyone who seeks my newfound expertise (Hah!).
