Hello everybody, My name is Chris.

I bought a NAA .22WMR mini revolver, brand new a few months ago.  I finally had the chance last week to take it out and shoot it. Thats then I discovered a problem that maybe y'all could help me with.

I was using CCI .22WMR, and about every third shot I would notice that the cylinder pin was working itself out.

I would reload and take extra special care to make sure the pin was locked firmly in place, shoot 3 more rounds and it did the same thing.

Has anybody ever had this happen?  What should I do?

tranquilo

Hi Gen. lee - welcome aboard!

The problem with your mini-mad should be fully covered by NAA's warranty; just give them a call and speak with their gunsmith.

cedarview kid

Welcome aboard. Glad to have ya!

chopprs

NAA will fix it and pay the shipping if it is a new gun. No worries, that have a wonderful warranty as well as custome service!

general_lee

Thanks for the replies!

I will definitely give them a call.

UPDATE:

NAA is sending me a new cylinder pin to see if that fixes the problem.

If not, the woman on the phone said she'll send me a shipping label and fix it free of charge.

chopprs

Yepper, Jessica, she is a cutie too!

General Lee,

I had that problem with my pug the first couple of times I took it out, I am not sure if it is related but for some reason after a deep cleaning of the Cylinder pin and some oil worked into the pivot I no longer had the problem..... cleaning details (if in fact that was the solution) I removed the cylinder pin, turned the pivot 90 degrees and put a couple of drops of cleaning solition into the little hole where the 2 parts pivot from, i then worked the pivot back and forth a number of times letting the two parts click together(there was a good amount of grime coming out of the assembly) I wiped up the excess and repeated a few times, after the cleaning solution started coming coming out of the hole clean, I wiped it down with a rag and did the same process using oil...... no more problems after that, again I am not sure if it is related or not but the timeing of my pug not having the problem came directly after i did this

general_lee

Mrmadhat,

I'm not familiar with the Pug's pivoting cylinder pin.

Mine has the pin with the little release button on the end.

I have a feeling that the detent on the under side of the barrel wasn't drilled quite deep enough at the factory, if I still have the problem after cleaning and installing the new pin I'll be pretty sure that is the problem.

All is well though, my gun is less than 2 years old (I bought it back in June of this year), according to the website, qualifies me for free shipping if I have to send it in.

mrmadhat

I was unaware that NAA had any pugs with the push button release, they were abandoned and replaced with the pivot pin on the mini master, black widow, and pug

the pic below shows the current style of cylinder pin with the pivot system.

chopprs

...I missed the part where he said it was a Pug?!?!?!

Madhat, Yer proud of that thang aintya?

   It is pretty kewl....

general_lee

Mrmadhat and Chopprs,

   I don't think mine is a pug.

The exact model number is NAA-22MS, .22Magnum 1 1/8" barrel

chopprs

I thought that is what ya meant....looks like this:

Yeah, I bet the pin will fix it...

mrmadhat

Just re read the post at top, my bad, for some reason had pug on the mind lol... must have been from emails this morning.....

I am proud of it thank you lol... keep wanting to send some stuff Otto's way too but havent been able to come up with the cash and have a hard time getting a blank spot in my schedule with what i want engraved as well, too many holsters to mold with it.

general_lee

Chopprs, Yes that's the one I have.

I really hope the pin will fix it, the lady said they've had problems with them.

Mrmadhat, That is one nice looking mini pistola you got there!

UPDATE:

My replacement cylinder pin came in the mail, and I was able to test the gun yesterday.

I only ran 15 rounds through the gun, but I had no malfunctions.

I believe the pin fixed the problem:D

chopprs

Kewl, another happy addict!

psapmapr

Welcome from an Alabama neighbor Gen. Lee. Glad to hear your mini recovered so quickly. You've come to the right place, there's some wonderful facilitators here for your new found addiction.

grayelky

Welcome.

What part of GA you in? I'm in Acworth.
Guns are a lot like parachutes:

bama22

General, Nice work at Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg; Gettysburg, meh. not so great.

Welcome from Alabama, NE of B'ham. Glad to hear your gun is fixed. It's hard to part with them if they ever need to go to Provo. The customer service and gunsmith there are tops, they WILL fix your gun. If it ever has to go, they can fit it with a 22LR cylinder if you like a little quieter load for practice.

I have a gun just like yours and some 22LR (smaller frame) minis. I'm a big proponent of the bigger grips for this gun, better control, check 'em out.  RTR !

ricart

Here's old gloom and doom again.  As on another post, I stated I have had several of the push button cylinder pins on various models some years back.  (Magnums)  The original B/W's had them.  NAA sent me a new pin, still it backed out.  To say NAA has had "some" problems with this is a gross understatement. I quit NAA till the new system came out on the B/W.  So, hope for the best, prepare for the worse.  The only mini revolvers I would own now is the B/W, Pug, and the Earl.  Again my opinion, there are only two types of the push button pins on magnums, those that have had problems and those that will.

general_lee

Thanks for the replies and the warm welcome!

Grayelky, I'm in Lumpkin (Stewart county), SW part of the state.

chopprs

Ricart, not sure how good you are with Smithing your own stuff but how is the detent under the barrel? All of the new cylinder pins in the world will not fix your gun if the detent is too shallow.

Randy

Welcome General. I too am in GA, between Macon and Columbus. I actually know where Lumpkin is. I went through there a few times a couple of weeks ago.

I haven't had any problem with any of my pins coming out. Hope yours will work out for you.

Chopper,

Actually, I have smithed a lot of guns over the years.  I was an armorer in the military 50  years ago.  For the most part it was replacing parts.  I never mess with the minis or any other new gun in warranty I own as I have this silly notion that a gun "should" come ready to go from the factory.  I will do  fine tuning on 1911's or Ruger and S&W revolvers.  Cylinder rods backing out is an issue that NAA has been  aware of for many years.  The  ball detent should be correct prior to leaving the factory, not when the buyer receives the gun and may have to send it back.  A great warranty means little if your newly bought gun is spending more time at the factory than in your pocket.

ephraim

General Lee,

Being a Virginia boy, I really like your user/name.

General Lee is a hero of mine. Glad you are keeping our heritage alive.

   E!

chopprs

Ricart, I completely agree. I was just trying to help is all. No condescendance was intened in any way and I hope you did not take it that way.

I know they usually just send a new pin but the detent is hard for them to check if they don't have the gun. If you are "gun savy" then I am sure this occurred to you. Some are  and some are not..... They do have a great warranty and will continue to try until any issue that you have with your gun is fixed. I really do believe that they actually care. After speaking to their gunsmith many times I am very contented with the things that they have done to my guns when I have sent them to the factory for whatever reason.

general_lee

A big howdy to Randy and Ephraim!

I hope I don't have any more trouble out of it..

I would like to eventually get the Pug, the locking system on the pin seems to be a lot better.
