I just don't have the confidence in the R-ll to carry it for SD had to many problems with mine to trust it 100% even tho it seems fine now its hard to trust it. I'll stick with my BW its always been a faithfull companion.J M 2 cents :D

Im just wondering if yours is an Early Bird? I am picking mine up Tuesday. It literally just came off the production line. Im under the impression the teething problems have ben remediated.
Yes it was an EB

Boots,
Nice to see that packing heat is a family affair!!!

Nothing at all wrong with ANY mini, your choice is the best choice.

A lot of "experts" that have never walked the line come out with "opinions" on how ineffective the 22 Mag round is.

All you have to do is go back to 1965 when Bill Jordan had his book  No Second Place Winner   published.  There he extolled on the virtues of a lightweight revolver in 22 magnum. He said "it is a wicked little cartridge"  And this was close to half a century before more "improved": 22 mag loads were made!!!

And yes,Bill Jordan had walked the line on many occasions. Combat Marine,US Border Patrol.  Need I say more??

I have not read all post but I carry a BW every day. My son and one of my grandsons, his wife, one of my daughters and one of her daughters all carry a BW. Fortunately none have to use them in sd but have used them for together things. In my mind the BW is a great carry option. I use to have a photo of a black bear I shot between the legs to scare off my from my bees, and it has been used on coons, rabbits, squirrels, and other garden intruders, so it is useful besides sd.

Agreed, the BW rules! My thoughts; the simpler the better. Both the sidewinder and the RII are more complicated pieces of engineering, and are great works of gun crafting art, but for every day carry? I want the simpler gun. Face it no reloading is going on in a SD situation. What was it that Scotty said? Something to the effect "The more you mess with the plumbing the easier it is to clog the drain..." KISS; so the BW it is.

"The more you mess with the plumbing the easier it is to clog the drain...

This is a valid point. It's also valid to consider the extremely unlikely event where you will have expended your five and gotten behind cover and may need to reload. In the latter scenario, having a BT or sidewinder would give you a fighting chance, slim as that may be. With any of the other NAA offerings, reloading is MUCH more difficult. Realistically, though I have considered the possibility of a reload from cover scenario, my desire for the BT is mostly because it will be much more enjoyable at the range which means I will practice more.

LOVE the Star Trek reference...I am a HUGE fan, albeit of the ORIGINAL series only! I can practically recite the lines chapter and verse from the original TV shows. Favorite episode..."The Doomsday Machine"

I do not have a Ranger, but the Sidewinder is my most common carry. Regarding reloading, especially in a stress situation, I think the biggest advantage for the Sidewinder is simply that I would not have to worry about dropping the cylinder or pin. That would apply to the Ranger as well, of course. If you like plinking in the woods or on a sandbar as do I, that is a good feature to have and the main reason that the Sidewinders are my favorites.

Far a person with younger, nimbler, fingers I suspect the BW would be only marginally slower to reload after a bit of practice, or maybe just as fast. Just so a person does not drop the cylinder pin or stick the cylinder in backwards if reloading in the dark!

I never even considered a dropped pin...good point. As others have said, these little beauties are an addiction. I can see myself picking up a sidewinder at some point!

LHB

As I was taught in Marine combat camera training, if you have two hands, and three or more things to hold, if there is any stress, you are going to drop one of them.   Back in the day that was a Nikon F2, that broke into two pieces to reload, the exposed roll of film, and the new roll of film.  You better pray it was the new roll that got dropped.

KEN AR

Well when I got my first one I thought it would be a nice novelty item to shoot at the range every once in a while.
1 5/8 Mag made in Spanish Fork, UT at the old factory.

No sooner had I gotten the first one and shot it a second one comes along, Black Widow with both cylinders Mag and LR.

Well my Leather Smith, Rick, who enticed me to try a Mini hooks me up with some of his PREMO leather.
I started finding myself carrying the NAA's more and more.  First the Mini then the Black Widow.
A vacation trip to Arkansas resulted in the Spanish Fork Mini finding a new home.  The Son In law thought it was a great little snake killer and they do have a LOT of Copperheads on their property. I think he killed over 10+ last year.

So yes I not only carry a 22 MAG but now my son in law does also.  The 45's 9's and 380's just do not go for the number of rides they used to.  When I feel the need for a more powerful EDC then the Glock 43 gets the nod. The Ruger LCP 380 just gets passed over now and it rode with me everyday for over 3 years.

I was just about first in line for the Glock 43 9mm and still think it is my go to when I want protection.
Funny thing is the Black Widow may also be with me still in the pocket!

My set ups and the son in laws. Photos for Uncle Lee!
