ljutic - thanks for posting the results. Since CCI Maxi-mags and Mini-mags are two of my favorite rounds, I am interested to see that you had an average velocity of 1004 fps with Maxi-mags and 905 fps with Mini-mags. On the denim covered gel I see that you got 14 inches penetration with the Maxi-mags versus 12 inches with Mini-mags, no expansion with either.

I have never done such controlled tests myself, but when I have test fired bullets into books and checked the penetration I got about the same result - the magnums outperform LR, but not by a lot with the short barreled Minis. Anyway, nice to have another data point to consider.

I think a lot of our lurkers and casual users would do well to read articles like this.

Thanks again!

I have not had any trouble with the Critical Defense in my BW...I wonder what is the difference?

Great thread, ljutic! Thanks for posting!

I shot 15 rnds of Hornady Critical Defense 22 WMR 45GR FTX for the 1st time today, out of my NAA Mini-Revolver 1 5/8 with no issues.
No Failures to Fire, No cylinder binding. I did have one bullet keyhole, but that's about the same ratio or less than I typically get with 22LR.
