Gotta Have It:

   WASP 1 1/8" WMR.

   Just decided.

I don't need the 22LR cylinder combo.  I prefer to practice with what I carry (when I can afford it).

But I don't see any, anywhere.  Several 1 5/8" on GB, and elsewhere, but not a 1 1/8" out there.  The LGSs don't have a clue what I'm talking about.

Anyone know where to find one? (obviously has to be available online)  I was about to pull the trigger for a 1 1/8" mini mag when the WASP popped into my mind.  It would make a sweet second to my PUG grip Black Widow, plus as an old style duck hunter/shotgunner, the ribbed barrel (as in my BW) and bead sight seem like home to me.  Today would be good!

BTW, I've read the posts about the faults, and trust NAA to get it right.  I have plenty of "backups".

   Thanks!!

Does buds guns have any?

   Never mind they don't

a great little pocket magnum.  I also have ordered the folding grip with pocket clip; order the .22 magnum size; it fits right nicely and improves your grip.

grayelky

See if any of your LGS order from Lipsey's. They have 10 in stock as of now.

Like you , I like the Wasp. I have the 1 5/8 barrel, though.

Thanks Ashevillian!

I placed my order with CTD.  I've bought accessories, holsters, mags, optics, etc. from them in the past, and never realized they sold firearms...

Now for a $35 visit to my LGS tomorrow. I said "never again" after the last vist, but I love this little revolver.  Then "never again" for my LGS.

corncobavery

Does anyone know how this compares to the Black Widow?  I have the BW and love it. But, this one looks great too.

grayelky

The Wasp is the same size as the standard Mini in 22 mag, so it is slightly shorter than the BW.

Corncobavery:

I got the 1 1/8" model for maximum concealability (for a magnum).  It should arrive by Thursday, and I'll post a side by side pic with my BW.

Well, "it" arrived.  Here "it" is with my BW.

You might notice the barrel seems a little long for 1 1/8".

Cheaper than Dirt has been very polite, admitted their mistake, and will notify me with their solution when able, dependent apparently on what they can work out with the distributor.

Hoping for the best; keep you posted.

heyjoe

maybe they will send you a hacksaw blade
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

Hey,  I ordered a 4" Earl and got a 3".

I guess what goes around comes around...

I would have preferred the longer barrel anyway, but it's nice to actually get what you pay for. :-/

Get you one of them "yellow jacket" paint jobs on that wasp, and you will be good to go. On second thought, just have them paint half of it and call it a "Hybrid". Lighting the hammer on a rim fire revolver, just says light strikes to me. Guess we could say the light strikes are due to bad ammo.

gedarty

Got the Wasp a couple of weeks ago.

   I Like It!

   Next I want the Ported.

grayelky

Fdm-

Have you actually fired a Wasp yet? Do you own one? Contemplating a purchase? It seems the light strikes you are concerned about are not a reality. I have fired 3 different ones, and currently carry one. No light strikes.

It amazes me that people have so little faith in NAA as to think their engineers would not have thought about a "light strike", and checked for it prior to releasing the gun to the public. Or are you just trying to create strife?

   2Cooltoolz-

Have you had a chance to fire it yet? Your thoughts?

   ?

The aesthetics of the gun are not important to me.  Notice the high-dollar ($16?) grip replacement on the Black Widow.  I would actually prefer not to have the factory laser engraving, and I prefer the plain, non-fluted BW cylinder barrel.  I do like (okay, probably for aesthetic reasons...) the ribbed barrel.  And I love the little bead sight.  Saves me the trouble of filing off the decorative blade sight on the mini-revolver.

"Lighting the hammer on a rim fire revolver, just says light strikes to me."

You are correct that the removal of what, maybe 1/10 gram, would "lighten" the strike, but NAA added a proportionally stronger spring to compensate.  If it becomes a problem, I'll replace it with a standard hammer.  As mentioned, the cosmetics are inconsequential to me.

2cooltoolz

No Grayelky,  I will not fire it until all is resolved.  I really don't want the 1 5/8" barrel.  May end up with it. I bought it as the most concealable (decent) 22 magnum available.  I think more concealable than the mini mag (only by mm), due to the sights.  I've owned several High Standard DM101 derringers in .22 WMR, and just have a fascination with the tiny 22 mag.  The PUG has a shorter barrel but seems bulkier.  Though, I admit, if this doesn't work out, I'm getting a PUG.  I've also owned several American Derringer DA38s.  But in my mind the tiny autos have obsoleted the American (and Bond) derringers and NAA has obsoleted the High Standard derringers.

grayelky

I have to agree with your assessment of the High Standard derringers. The NAA is actually much smaller. I had 4 of the High Standard derringers until Christmas. Now my 2 sons and my "Partial Son" (my youngest son's best friend since 10 years old) have one each. I understand your desire for the 1 1/8. I carry the 1 5/8 Wasp, and thought I would have a hard time adjusting to it after carrying a 1 1/8 LR since 1977. I was wrong. We do differ on the aesthetics. I had a perfectly good 1 5/8 "standard" Mini in 22 Mag. Traded it for the Wasp. I just like the appearance of it.

If you go for a Pug, look closely at the night sight version. The reality of it is, for the distance the Pug will likely be used for, it is a waste of money. But, it is a "cool tool".

   Want a surprise? Put a DM 101 next to a KelTec 32 or 380.

After all my ramblings, bottom line is very simple:

It's your checkbook, and your pocket. Follow your heart.

Hey, 2Cool, if you were in Utah, I'd probably buy the wasp from you. I don't suppose you are?

2cooltoolz

I'm in Texas, and at this price point, ya just can't justify private party shipping and FFL fees.  I'm hoping CTD will come through for me.  As stated, they agreed it was their fault.  Thanks for considering it, though.

xmp

CTD has great customer service. I bought a gun bag

When I got it it had a small rip. They sent me a new one

And let me keep the old one. I don't think they'll let you

Keep a gun but I'm sure they would take care of it.

cedarview kid

2Cool, it's good to hear that we are both in gun-friendly states. Too bad the feds say we can't deal with each other directly. Gone are the days of buying a gun from the Sears catalog and having it shipped to your home and delivered by your friendly postman.

2cooltoolz

Well, I've talked to CTD.  Apparently I own a 1 5/8" Wasp.  Once I accepted it from my FFL it was mine.  They were kind enough to offer me $25 for my inconvenience.  I declined.

Guess I'm going to have to learn to love the little bugger. It's still the smallest gun I own, I just wanted one smaller.

Of, course, there is always that hacksaw blade.......

cedarview kid

Yeah, I can see how completing the paperwork and background check could finalize the deal. I didn't really think of that. Interesting point--a learning point for all of us, I suppose.

You can always do what I do--when you're not quite satisfied, buy another one. (As the owner of 29 NAA firearms, I'm not quite sure this plan works very well, but I'm content to keep trying.)

2cooltoolz

"You can always do what I do--when you're not quite satisfied, buy another one."

I can't tell you how many times I've bought my "last" handgun...I've got to admit, Grayelky has me thinking about that PUG with night sights..

I do think I've bought my last handgun online.  My last two purchases have gone wrong and I had to soak up FFL fees, etc.

   Fool me once, shame on you;

   Fool me twice, shame on me;

Fool me three times...hell, just go ahead and pull the trigger!!!!

cedarview kid

Sorry about your bad luck. I've purchased probably ten online in recent years. I was nervous at first, but everything went okay for me.

   Anyway, good luck. :-/

xmp

Tell them to send you a holster for it.

grayelky

There is nothing in Federal law to prevent them from accepting a return. Bear in mind, there may be one or 2 Federal laws I don't know about. It is a bit of an aggravation, as you would have to ship the gun back to them (or your FFL holder would), they would have to log it back into their books and ship another gun to you. I suspect the shipping charges would be point of contention. It would cost about $20.00 to return yours and get the other one shipped. Then, there would also be whatever your FFL holder charged for his services.
