Those look great Jason.  I've got several of your holsters and you did a great job with them, and now the grips.  You are one very talented fellow!  I have absolutely no artistic abilities at all (confirmed by my 8th grade Art teacher) so I'm always amazed at the skill some folks have.  I hope you're able to turn this into a nice little paying business!

mrmadhat

here is a set for a LR frame, these are for sale. they are made from burl

cedarview kid

Hey, those are a bit nicer than the ones i made. ;)

chopprs

Yeah, those are pretty nice man. I would like to see a slightly oversized set like the Pug grip......(hint-hint)

general_lee

All those grips look great, especially the burl!

sirbarkalot

I will need to do some experimenting for boot grips and such, need some more practice with the new tools befor I start doing those.

I have some magnum grips started, they will be drying over the next day or 2, I'll post them when they are finished.

ksblazer

Those are some nice looking grips Mrmadhat.

Look forward to seeing more of you work.

cedarview kid

Where do you get the screws for such projects? Are they grip screws or just something you buy at a hardware store? Also, how did you not have the screw exposed on the opposite side. That's cool.

(Yeah, I'm considering making some non-pine grips to fit a break-top.)

   Dar

mrmadhat

Darv,

I get them at the hardware store and doe some modifying on them with a drill press and a file... the back side is a specialty nut that is threaded on the outside as well, this takes some modifying as well...

cedarview kid

Ah, I get it. Thanks!

mrmadhat

I finished a set of burl mag grips, they have a couple of tiny imperfections in them.. I am open to some offers I will get pics of them tomorrow if I get some time, I have a pretty busy day lol its birthday week at the smith house.. (4 bdays to attend lol)

ifly65

Awesome Jason!

Uncle_Lee

I am going to have to do some talking with you.

   Holsters and grips.......

Might have to have something special for the breaktops. If you are going to get into doing bootgrips.

mrmadhat

these grips are made from Alder, they have a sort of tigerseye look to them and catch the light way cool.

mrmadhat

this other set is made from curly maple, this is the set that found home on my widow lol

I do have some more of this wood and will get some grips made for sale here soon

grayelky

You do some really nice work. I would like to have some grips made, but I want a holster, or 2 first. Besides, by the time I can afford the grips, you will have had more time to practice...

Guns are a lot like parachutes:

"If you need one and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again"

chopprs

.....doesn't look like he needs any more practice to me. Those are beautiful!

zippovarga

That's some good looking wood there Jason! ;-)

mrmadhat

lol thanks zippo, a friend helped me out with getting it... looking at doing a little carving in a set soon as well, try my hand at some free hand scroll work

zippovarga

He sounds like a good guy! Best keep him in hiding so others won't swarm him for materials! lol

zippovarga

Hey Jason! Anymore grips to show us pics of? I'm going to take a piece of scrap wood and try my hand at doing some checkering and engraving. That's something I can do while resting and I've got all the small carving tools just rusting away out in the shop. May as well put them to use! Going to try some with the dremel also. I've done carving on some of my canes, but nothing at detailed as checkering. Should be interesting to see how things work out. Keep us in the loop bro!!

mrmadhat

havent had much time this week, been trying to stay caught up with holsters.I managed to get a couple of days behind..

cedarview kid

I think this grip fever is catching. I want to make some, too--and not from a pine two-by-four this time.

I want a magnum boot grip, but bigger than the boot grips you can buy from the NAA accessory store. I can't quite find the break-top grips that I want, so maybe I can make some. I got some exotic hardwood from ebay that's supposed to be for making knife handles and I'm gonna try making gun grips for the first time in 25 years.

I'm thinking more of an oversized boot grip, or a cross between the standard boot grips and the oversized wood grips. I'm also thinking of making some regular birds head grips in different woods.

If I like what I end up with, I'll post some pics here in a week or two. If I don't, I'll disavow any knowledge of any claim of wanting to make NAA gun grips. LOL.
