Hey all!!

Just showing off my new WASP 1 5/8" .22WMR mini-revolver!

I researched and compared pretty extensively before I decided to choose the 1 5/8" barrel over the 1 1/8" barrel.  The 1 5/8" barrel has an average 17-18% higher muzzle energy than the 1 1/8" barrel, based on the results from the NAA website. The extra ½" adds almost nothing to the mass of the pistol, and on top of that...it just seems more aesthetically pleasing, with the extra vent in the rib.

I discussed it intensely with the experts at CheaperThanDirt.com and they were vehemently insistent that this was the gun for me. Speaking of aesthetics, I find the laser etching on the cylinder, plus the "shadowed" flutes, add a nice contrast to the WASP, and I think the little bead sight is what the true minis should have had from the beginning.

In the pictures below, you can see how much less bulky the WASP is than the Black Widow.  Admittedly, you give up something in ballistics, but you gain in concealability, even with the reduced grips on the BW.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but would be very surprised find anything not to like.  Not my first mini!

For those in the know, hope you can appreciate the "silk purse" aspect of this post.  For the others, pax vobiscum.

For my $.02 worth, I think you will be pleased.

How does the cylinder pin retainer function on that model?  Does it screw out, or what?

louiethelump

The push button on the end of the pin moves to the rear, allowing a thin spot to let a ball bearing set in the top of the pin drop from an engagement detent in the bottom of the barrel and the pin is then withdrawn.  When you release the push button, a spring inside pushes the rod back forward, shoving the ball bearing into the detent on the bottom of the barrel, holding the center pin in place.

In use, you grab the ribbed portion of the pin with thumb and middle finger, push the pin in with the index finger, and withdraw the pin.  (After placing the hammer on the first notch of course)

2cooltoolz - That is a good looking revolver. A good looking pair of revolvers, actually. I'm glad to read that your wasp lost its sting!

cedarview kid

Yah, I like 'em, too. ;)

2cooltoolz

Yeah, it's a nice little pistol.  Just not what I ordered.  It's growing on me though.  It does make a nice companion piece to the Black Widow.

Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.  Today was my daughter's B-day.  Hopefully tomorrow if the rain lets up!

Actually Grayelky, your 2 cents is worth considerably more to me.  I've read quite a few of your posts in the past (lurking) and consider them to be knowledgeable and informative.

Gray has much more than a 2-cent opinion. ;)

My wife may not totally agree.

   2cooltoolz-

Do you mind if I show this to my wife???

Have you had a chance to shoot it yet?  If so, how's it compare to shooting the BW?

One more question:  can the grips be changed out for the BW sized grips?

2cooltoolz

Sorry, not yet.  Rainy and ugly all weekend, plus had to help out with a 9th grade geography project  Busy during the week.  I'll try upcoming weekend.

Heres mine!

Nice Xmp!  If you have any other NAA revolvers, how does it compare?  Especially in relation to the BWidow, which I have and love. I know this is a hard thing to respond to, but I'm thinking about getting the Wasp.  Maybe this would be a better way to ask this:  why did you get the Wasp? Thanks :-)

Corncob-

When I first saw it I really liked the idea if the different features. I was in the market for a black widow, the gun shop could'nt get the one I wanted. So I went for the Wasp.

I don't see many of them on the shelves and I like the idea of having something a little different than "everyone" else.

The boot grips I got a deal on and after holding it with them on, I like it better. (at least for now). Plus i think it looks better.

Due to the weather I have'nt had a chance to shoot it yet.

I actually had a guy at a gun shop say "that looks better than those NAA pistols"  I had to laugh and tell him.

I plan on making a presentation box for it and adding a Wasp Somewhere on the box. I have a few ideas but haven't settled on one yet.

To answer your question, I like it because its different. I have a pug, King of hearts and a 1 5/8 with the older holster grip (which shoots great by the way). Which I feel they all are a little different in their own way.

2cooltoolz

Corncobavery,

Sorry, I missed your question about the grips.  My understanding is that any magnum frame grips are interchangeable between the magnum frame revolvers.

grayelky

Corncobavery-

I'm not Xmp, but, I got the Wasp simply because I like the way it looks. In essence, it is simply a standard .22 mag Mini, with some different cosmetic effects. I like the vent ribbed barrel, post front sight, "racing stripes" on the cylinder and cylinder pin and the blackened depressed areas. The sides of the frame are a higher polish and the remainder of the frame is bead blasted, giving a nice (to me) contrast. The skeletonized hammer is a nice touch also.

I have the 1 5/8 barrel, and do not find a practical difference in it and the 1 1/8 barrel.

Gray-

I really wanted the 1 1/8.  No had them when I ordered

Mine. But I did get the convertible. The differences I talked about were all the ones you mentioned.

I think the wasp is a lot better looking in person than in pictures. It's hard to appreciate it from a picture.

cedarview kid

Don't say that. I mean, really--because they look pretty good in pictures.

Sigh. Okay. The gun lust is starting again. Thanks a lot!

corncobavery

Xmp, 2Cool, and Grayelky thanks for the replies.  I must admit, I'm taken with this gun -- especially after these responses.  Also, I think it is really cool with those grips Xmp.  Where did you get them?

xmp

Corncobavery-

Thanks,  I got the grips off ebay, but NAA store sells them.

   Collector-

If you see one in front of you you'll end up with one.  I just wish the 1 1/8 was out when I got mine.  I just like the looks of the shorter barrel. BTW- the King of hearts looks a lot better in person!

roostercogburn

I just picked up my first NAA Mini last week and after a weekend at the cabin shooting it I am very happy with the purchase.  It's a great addition to my collection.

That looks good with the holster grip. Nice knife too!
