But of course !  Horns.  Guess I had a senior moment.  I played slide trombone in high shchool. Fluegels have bigger bore than trumpet, and perhaps lower tonal range (?) guessing, and what about cornets, a little mellower than a trumpet ?  What kind of tunes you blow ?  My piano is a 1950 Winter spinnett bought for me when I was 4.  Martin guitars are tops in my book. I have an old Martin uke from the 50's that was my Mom's. Is the Kawai acoustic or electronic ?

Tunes--- all kinds I guess. I was in the marching 100 at I.U., and the Army band, and several community bands and dance bands etc.

Martin was a company that made famous trumpets years ago, that was a jazz trumpet players favorite.I went to a jazz concert a couple of years ago, and Chris Botti [probably the best jazz trumpet player today] was playing on an old Martin trumpet. It needed refinished, but he wouldn't send it in to have it done because he was afraid it would take away from the sound he gets with it. Louis Armstrong also played on a Martin trumpet. The only place you will find an OLD MARTIN trumpet today is in somebody's attic. They still make a Martin trumpet, but they are not the  same thing! I'm not sure if the martin co. that made trumpets was the same co. that made the famous martin guitars.

Sorry, probably telling you more than you want to know!!

Chuck Manigione was probably the guy that made the Fluegelhorn famous.

Instruments are a lot like firearms. they are a beautiful piece of machinery. You have old ones that are a treasure. Some you are so proud of, you can't get rid off!!

Lots of musician here, eh?  I was in the USAF NORAD Band, played French Horn, and later played Alto (Peck) Horn in jazz bands.  More recently I've been playing Ukulele and Bagpipe.

Anyone care to start a thread where they can post the name of a friend or loved one(former messageboard member, family member, soldier) who has passed. Perhaps if they had or liked a particular NAA product or method of carry. I'm the first in my family to own and carry a NAA so I can't get us started with history but just wanted to pose the question and see what stories arose.

Last year, while shooting some factory reloaded 9mm ammunition through my Glock 17, I experienced a hand-stinging shot, and the gun jammed. The shell had ripped apart and was jamming the slide open.

Having never read about a kaboom, I just thought the gun was a piece of junk, and quit shooting it.

Fast forward a few months, and I decided to go shooting again. I put some gloves on, reloaded the gun with the same ammunition and fired off two rounds without incident. The third round went off much differently, stinging my had with a powerful recoil. This time, I decided to keep the shell casing and do some research.

I quickly learned about kabooms, and immediately junked the rest of the Accurate Ammunition brand rounds I had. I went out and purchased some factory new rounds and have never had another problem with my Glock. I think the case was filled with a double charge and the Glock sustained no damage.

Here are some photos for those of you who think of shooting reload ammunition in your Glock:

Glock 17, junk? Any other gun might have done way more harm to you under this situation. you should be glad you were using such a good weapon when this happened.

coopercdrkey

"and have never had another problem with my Glock."

Clearly the ammo was to blame, in Naalover's opinion.

Reloads using once or more fired brass from any Glock are eventually going to give you problems.Glocks do not fully support the case, one of the reasons they are so reliable feeding factory ammo. Once fired and reloaded the case is fire formed , expanding the the base where it is not supported. The 40S&W is the worst offender with a much larger area of the case unsupported, which is why there are so many kabooms in that particular caliber, even using factory ammo.I've seen AK's with the bullet guide or ramp extended 1/4" into the chamber, but those users fire steel cased ammo, so there seldom is a problem.

bert

I haven't reloaded in many years but that brass looks pretty ruff. I have a GLOCK 29 and have never had any issues with it.

I think everyone agrees that, in general, gun rights are "under the gun", and that the legislative trend is toward greater restrictions.

If you click on the link below, you will see an interesting animated graphic that shows how concealed carry laws have changed over about the last 20 years.  Very much counter to the restriction trend.

In the early 90's, there is an awful lot of RED, (No Issue), in some very strange places!  (Texas?!?!)

Watch and enjoy as more and more of the map turns BLUE, (Shall Issue).

I like that animation.  It would be even neater if it could be tied to a graphic depicting the lowering crime rates as concealed carry come into effect in each State.

Vegasgeorge.......I couldn't agree more. What more powerful a message can be told, than one by the numbers?

wigeorge

It really sucks to be from wi!

coopercdrkey

How many jokes begin like that ?!?!?

Anyhow, I did walk into our local Eagles Club for a quick one on the way home, (no....  I was not carrying, no..... I do not have my carry permit yet.....   Yes, I know I can't carry in a bar even after it arrives.....), when the topic of conversation with my bar mate turned to small, concealable weapons.  He is a bar owner who departs his venue at some wee hours with enough cash to worry about.

Well, what do you think I recommended?!?!  I referred him to the NAA web site and offered my new-found expertise (???) in Florida Concealed Carry.

expanding knowledge about a great firearm, opening eyes about legal and effective means of self-defense, encouraging a fellow citizen to safely exercise their Constitutional freedoms...I gotta say well done CD.

Isn't it fun to get another person started in a new hobby? You two should have something new in common to talk about. If he buys a NAA, be sure to meet up with him at a range and help him get to know his new purchase!

...Hey Coop, the GUARDIAN.380 or .32NAA is the way to go..6 in the mag. & 1 chambered..A lot of rounds down range with competent instruction, should make Your buddy a lot more comfortable carrying a large amount of$$$home in the wee hours...

coopercdrkey

appear on the topic bar?  Have they always been there and I just didn't notice?

I've been editing by going to "Edit Profile", which is a lot more key-strokes!

(edited using the "Edit" icon...)  Which works great.  I have found out, however, that to delete a post, it has to be less than 0 minutes old ?!?!

   It works too!  Cool!

Assume you are pulled over for a minor traffic violation, (or a roadside checkpoint, etc.), nothing major like a suspected DUI, do you inform the officer of your concealed carry?  If so, when and how?  If not and it somehow comes to light, what is the likely outcome?

   Thanks.

Yes, Keep your hands on the steering wheel, and when the officer comes to the window, "I have a CCW and I'm carrying. How do you want to handle this?" In Nevada your CCW  comes up on their computer screen a couple pages back, in red, when they run you. I have been stopped once in the 12 years that I have had my permit and did as I stated, the Officer just stated "don't go for your gun and I won't go for mine." I said "deal", no one wants a gun surprise. He did ask where my weapon was, and did not ask to see my permit. In Nevada you are allowed to car carry with out a permit, your car is an extension of your house. Gave me a traffic warning and said he appreciated the CCW heads up.

lashlarue

In Texas, your CHL shows up when they run your DL,*** near impossible to retrieve while seated behind the steering wheel. When traveling I always have a full sized backup within arms reach, legal in Texas ,don't know about other states.I have traveled this way , long before Texas had a concealed handgun law.Although the 2nd amendment gives me the right to bear arms, I personally believe the right of self defense is a God given right.

coopercdrkey

Thank you, Gc.  I've found that I am extra careful when carrying in terms of full stops at stop signs, always buckled up, watching the speed, etc.  Maybe that's an extra included benefit of a CCW Permit!

   Thanks again for the advice

My work involves late night driving.  I am often stopped at 2 or 3 AM.  Depending upon the jurisdiction, I know exactly what they will give as reason - most will say you "weaved" or deviated from lane, others "couldn't see rear light".  In reality it is always a sobriety check, and they will smile when I mention that. Although not required, I always open my wallet to the CCW permit.  If a weapon is within my touch, reach, or grasp I will inform.   They always appreciate this and never once have they asked to see my weapon.  In some towns they know me well and now we simply wave.  After 10 years of nearly weekly stops they give me a pass.  In addition, I obey the laws and never received a citation.  Like everything else, it is mostly a matter of attitude.

Uncle_Lee

I was told by the sheriff when I first got my CCW to hand the permit along with the DL when asked for the DL. I keep them together so they both come out of my wallet at the same time. No digging around.

I have done this a bunch of times with mixed results. A couple of times when I was on the bike I sat there with a gun in my face until backup arrived. But that was better than the fellow finding it and then falling apart.
