9v rechargable on the paklite: Forgot and meant to say that the things last so darned long, you'll want to wrap your battery in electrical tape because it's going to get scratched up for as long as that's going to last you.

The ancients used to make batteries for the purpose of plating metal (yes, really) by stacking dissimilar isolated metals in various jars and then adding something acidic like citrus juice or urine (yes, urine is slightly overall acidic.) You stack multiple jars in both parallel and series (and aside from repelling your shallow friends you didn't like anyway,) you now have enough voltage to electroplate. (It was considered magic back then, you'd probably get multiple virgin brides or burned at the stake for it back then.) As far as anthropology goes, this seems to be agreed upon as the first use of electricity by mankind. We're not counting lightning strikes causing fire then harvested by mankind.

(translation: anthropological history of electroplating, history of electricity, history of materials science, history of chemistry, history of flashlights)

Also, G50AE, sir? You say "nominal voltage," but don't forget that a flashlight might spend some of its life with the battery at less than that. As I've said before, the "failure mode" or "end of life" of a design or component is quite significant. Nominal means "normal and now." Nominal voltage for a "nearly dead" battery reads one thing on a meter, and yet another alltogether under load. A "nearly dead" battery under load has a voltage that drops like a rock if the load is too high.

Recall the plastic pistol-grip flashlight modification I'm working on. It worked fine. The main point? It's not done yet. The light will seriously dim and wink out when the 4aa batteries (nominal 6v) tap down to about 4-ish volts. No more visible light is produced at that time with the mod I'm working on. You've got to remember the properties of the emitter... even one of these stand-alone won't light without both voltage AND current being correct. Try to direct-drive (simply hook to a battery) all you want. It won't be a "real" flashlight aside from a "5 minute runtime wonder" until you can come up with a REAL driver circuit.

Most hobbyists do this, then brag about it. "Yeah! I got XXXXX lumens!!! WOOOOO!" They never mention that it only worked for 40 seconds before something caught on fire or the circuit dropped like a rock. The next question is "what equipment did they use to determine these lumens?"

Ever burn your fingers on an LED while playing with current? Hurts, doesn't it? I have had spots on my eyes for this for quite some time. I remember my first time, lying in bed... blinking my eyes... spots! I am seeing spots! Oh yeah, I just over-drove the crap out of a massive power array. (actually, not really... just hobbyist junk trying to "be with the cool kids.") In retrospect it was stupid, but it couldn't have been more than 20 watts with overdrive. Just like firing a gun without eye and ear protection, don't "throw the juice" to a power led array. You actually need eye protection, particularly if you're working with "non-visible spectrums." Your natural eye-defenses won't kick in and you'll "furk" yourself up. Don't say I didn't warn you. There are serious concerns with exposing yourself to high intensity "point emissions" of energy.

See you at the VFW!  8)

Somewhere in here there is a Highlander reference due to your last pic posted.  Which in turn would also be a Queen reference (Ah-ah!).

I'm only aware of one "king of the impossible." :)

"Stands for every one of us! Stands for every one of us!"

PS: He is in no rock band of which I'm aware. You can meet him in a certain book, however.   8)

I'm told that he will "save every man, every woman, every child, every time."

That's a tough job description by anybody's measure!  :'(

...or did you mean that the war against darkness is won with intelligence? Heart, faith, and steel? :)

Thanks for posting, I love to browse gear stores... particularly the ones that find the "never heard of it before" gear. The key is pointing out how it does something nothing else does.

Question, is the "Nifebrite" "Hayn helper" two-blade a *BRIGHT* GITD handle scale model or one you can't use to see with once charged with a 500+ lumen light? Love the pic of the two blade... pen and sheepfoot? Too bad it's sold out at the moment. I'm thinking I need more gear that glows in the dark!

EDIT: HAH! A fellow Lansky man! Good taste, sir! I look forward to swapping gear tips.

RE-EDIT: Sweet grips, best of luck getting the product line filled out.

Re- Reddit :I'll finish my thought one of these days. Hope it's not soon.

Thanks! The Nifebright handles are very bright with a charge. I have one on top of my 'fridge and it get charged from the kitchen light easily. I believe I added a pic to one of those knives that is of it glowing. I haven't received my flashlight yet to compare it. The knives really are very cool!
