Hi, I just thought I should post an introduction
My name is Mitch and I am 18 years old, I am finishing up my senior year in high school and I'm taking a precision machining class at a local technical trade school. My hobbies include, making miniature hand guns and cannons, riding my 1984 honda xr250r with my uncle, and going to shoot when my family goes camping. We own two guns in my families house, my dad has a smith and Wesson .357/38 and I have a New England firearms 20ga single shot partner model which I laced on consignment last week at a local gun store. I have had am interest in the naa mini's since I was 8 years old and have wanted one since. At age 15 I found out you had to be 21 to by a cartridges revolver, so my dream of having a mini when I turned 18 went right out the window, until I saw that naa has a black powder version of there mini 22 that I can purchase now :). I currently have the cash for one and I'm looking to maybe special order one at the gun store or maybe order one online. Well that's it for me, it's great to be on this forum :)

Hey Mitch,
Welcome to the life of the mini.
I wish you a long, long life with many mini's.

Here is a starting place for you:

First, WELCOME!

It is true you can't buy a mini for 3 more years, there is nothing to prevent a parent from buying one with money you provide. Of course, you would have to use it under their supervision, or that of another "adult" much like you do now with your Dad's .357.

With your interest in precision machining, you going to LOVE the NAA products. They are very well made with very tight tolerances. I cannot offer any insight into the BP minis, as I have never dealt with one, I can verify shooting BP revolvers is a lot of fun, and shooting the minis is a lot of fun, I strongly suspect the BP mini will be a "blast" (pun intended!) to shoot!

The only surprising thing about Uncle_lee helping you to spend your money, is he did not provide a link to a pair of them!

If you continue to hang out here for another 3 years, you cannot imagine how much info you be able to garner about the NAA minis, and firearms in general by the time you are able to legally buy your own!

Be most welcome, Mitch.

Sounds like you are off to a good start concerning firearms.  Be safe and use your common sense along with the teaching that your dad gave you.  You'll be alright.

You'll find your collection increases over time.  I've gotten more long guns and hand guns over the past 40 years than I ever thought possible.

Take care.

Mitchg95

Thanks guys :)
I find these little firearms amazing with all the machining needed to be done to make these little things possible  :)

Just make sure you use the Remington caps, they work better on the NAA black powder guns than others I've tried. Failures to fire galore for me with CCI caps...

That's good to know there TwoGun I was just figuring to start shooting my Freedom Arms BP . Thanks . :)

Check your local laws.  While there is a Federal law saying you can't buy a handgun from an FFL, unless you are 21, some states do allow someone 18 to buy a handgun from a private party, like your dad.  Some states will also allow you to open carry at 18.

I believe Utah is this way.  South Dakota used to be.  I had a concealed carry permit at 18 there.  Not sure what the current SD laws are anymore.  It was funny, one time I went to a store to buy handgun ammo, but they wouldn't sell to me, until I showed them my permit.

Mitch, you are on the right track.  I have been shooting since a boy and started out much like you.  I got an Colt Frontier Scout that an uncle asked me for.  He bought me an RG .22 to replace it.  I still have it and have put thousands of rounds through it.  Bought at a Western Auto store.  I then bought a parts gun kit blackpowder '51 navy revolver that came in a box with no instructions.  That was the continuing of my favorite hobby.  I have two NAA blackpowder revolvers and you won't be disappointed getting one of those.  Be meticulous in loading, shooting and cleaning and they will last you a lifetime, and you hopefully have a long way to go. Be slow to get rid of your first guns, you will regret it later on.  Your first guns will always be your favorites.  They may not be the most expensive but the memories they give cannot be bought anywhere at any price. Your Pardner twenty will last you a lifetime too.  I've got one and even though I've got nicer guns I still go hunting many times with that just to get back to basics. Welcome to the group.

I've got to admit that most NAA products that I've let go went to family or friends, and many of those gifts.  I gave my nephew Companion magnum with all accessories.  He loves it. My brother has a "b" serial LR that is has the raised rear portion of the  frame that allows for aiming.  Very accurate.  I would only let that go to a brother.  It had the California address. These guns are going to remain in the family for generations.

Sw a used PUG-D today for 300, looked like new debated, they also had a conversion sidewinder for 440, still thinking that high, but I would not be unhappy paying that for the conversion.  I left with my thoughts and will go back tomorrow.  Any thoughts?

Mitchg95

I ordered the gi. Last night from cheaper than dirt for $235 shipped. I assume this comes with everything minus the blackpowder and caps if it's come from ctd?
It should be here next monday

I would just like to say that I am very happy for you and proud of the fact that a 18 yr old young man has shown enough interest in these little guns that he has done what it takes to obtain one on his own legally!!! I really hope you enjoy it and look forward with you to the day that you can expand your collection with some of their rimfires!!! Good luck and keep us posted!!! Oh and be sure to post pics when you get it!!!

Mitchg95

Thank you very much goatpacker :)
I will definitely post some pictures when i get the gun
My grandfather saw the gun a couple days ago and told me not to order it, but i did anyway. He called me last night and asked if i bought it, i said yes and it turns out that he was going to take me to the gun shop to get a semi auto 22 pistol if i did not buy it.
To bad, but i will live with my choice, i can't wait to get the gun and to shoot it for the very first time :) i picked up one pound of fffg pyrodex, and tried getting some caps but the store had none.

Just tell him that you would really like him to help you with getting another one but you wanted to get one on your own too because you are becoming an adult and wanted to buy one for yourself!!! I'm sure that he will understand and really respect your decision for those reasons!!! Good Luck with it!!!

Mitch-
There is nothing wrong with having more than one gun.  I sure hope not, anyway.

Your living where most of us have been. Enjoy...
I think I might still kind of be there. Feels great..

Mitch, Tell your grandpa to come on this website and look at this thread. I'll say right now that a trip to the gunshop with grandpa would be one of those multi-generational events. What I mean is every time you take your kids to shoot that gun they'd hear the story of that trip to the gunshop. The gun would never be sold because you read this thread. Grandpa is memorialized better than if he had a statue in downtown of himself. Your grandpa should be proud of a grand kid that has such an honorable desire to exercise his Constitutional rights in this day. Good luck.
