Jim- Back to your original question, is there a better barrel design for a .22 for use exclusively for snakeshot?  Would a smoothbore or reduced rifling NAA revolver be any real advantage in rattler country?

There is an advantage of smooth bore for snakeshot

over a rifled barrel.  Works like a shotgun, gets a better pattern and you will not lead up the. barrel.

The 514 suggestion was pretty interesting, thanks.
