I bought one of these today.I'm not to crazy about Taurus and I've heard there customer service is just bad but I got it at a real nice price and I thought I would take a chance.I really like the feel of this new poly version in the hand. It's really light and fits in my pocket front or back just fine.I went with the 25 acp because I had a couple 22 berreta in the past and had problems with both FTF ,FTE .I have a Baby Browning in 25 acp no problems.I have not shot it yet. TO COLD OUTSIDE! If anybody has experience with one of these new Taurus 22 or 25 poly let me know good bad or indifferent.

The name always makes me think they are made from wood not polymer :)  - Machined from solid ply-wood.

I've heard some good reports from some on this model, better than the Bobcat copy that Taurus makes. I agree with your reasons for going 25 acp in a semi auto rather than 22.  Time will tell whether you have a good or bad one, usually that's apparent fairly early on, I've only had one Taurus and had to send it back for repair, they fixed it, it took a while, but then it always seems to, when you are separated from your new toy and then it's hard to fall in love with it with it again when you get it back.

I wish Taurus would make a Beretta 950 copy, as Beretta don't seem interested in making any more, for me that's still my favorite and fastest shooting 25 acp model

OV I'll see what I can come up with!

Taurus customer service is actually pretty good. They somehow have a bad reputation being passed back and forth between non-Taurus owners, but if you actually have to use it (I have), it's pretty good.

I haven't owned any Taurus autos, but I love their revolvers! I have a small collection of them, but nothing like my NAA collection.

Thanks for the feedback guys your making me feel better about the purchase.I'll let you know how it shoots when I get to the range with it.

I've got the stainless .22 PLY. I love it.

Beware shooting hot ammo through this make. It voids the warranty. My PLY pretty much eats only Federal Automatch (and does it flawlessly) due to the velocity concerns. It is the perfect ammo. I also do shorts one-at-a-time through the tip-up barrel. That's a lot of fun, it's wickedly accurate.

Now that you mention it, I need to drag the PLY out and kill some cans. Great little gun, the trigger works in wonderfully in about 400 rounds or so.

heyjoe

im drawing a blank right now. what hot ammo in 22lr would you have to avoid? that would certainly not be a problem with any 25 acp ammo i can think of.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

I think they tell you in the manual not to use HV 22 ammo, which would preclude a lot of what's out there. That would also be another reason for going with 25 acp in this pistol. I don't understand how basically the same gun can shoot 25 acp, but not 22 HV as the 25 acp is a little higher pressure and shooting a generally heavier bullet - it does have a lot stronger case than 22lr, if that makes nay difference.

With 25 acp ammo it seems everyone sticks religiously to the standard 50 gr at about 760 fps for fear of blowing up some of the really crappy old cheap guns that were made back in the day in this caliber. There are some lighter bullet weights, but no one is doing anything that could be classed as HV or +P.

I think it's PMC 22 lr or mag you shouldn't use .  ;)

I agree with redhawk. The .25 acp is rather conservatively loaded. No CCI Stingers in the .22 lr version.

Redhawk-  (LOL)

Just picked up one of those "really crappy old guns"!  A Jennings J25 that looks like it just came out of the box.

I know all the folklore, but this is a very attractive little pistol-  blue with pearl grips.  I'm not sure it's ever been fired!

I will definitely stick to the standard factory loads when (if) i decide to fire it.  Meanwhile, I think it's cool!

I don't know Cooper I have a Jennings 22 and think it's one of the best purchases I've ever made ,never a problem shooting any type of l.r. Shot it allot 2-3 hundred rounds not even a misfire . Jenning auto's get an A+ in my book . Good luck with your 25 .  :) :)

I didn't mean it personally :) I'd probably buy one too if it was cheap enough. Took my Beretta 950 to the range in Friday, it's really a fun little gun to shoot, I'd almost forgotten, barely any recoil and you can really fire all 9 rounds in a hurry.

Speaking of; I have decided to do another sd project. This time I am looking for a Baby Browning/Bauer/PSA in 6.35mm/.25acp to which a threaded barrel and a clean up job, if need be, will be performed.

I have a couple of Raven .25 acp pistols from long ago as a kid that still look and function like brand new. They really are not bad guns. They are not top of the line fighting pistols nor the most attractive of pieces but if taken care of and kept clean they work like a charm.

For some reason, I am really intrigued with the .25 semi's-  Don't even ask me why!

I really like the looks of the newer Taurus .25's, including the PLY but more so the SS slides
with the reverse fish scale.

Having said that, however, what is on the way to my FFL is the older Taurus PT25, blue with
rosewood grips.  I have wanted one for a while, and they were absent from the Taurus 2014
catalog, so in case they are discontinued I found a NIB and jumped on it.

Fun plinking, comfortable carry, what's not to like???

I bought the .25 PLY with stainless slide a couple of years ago. It was not a good experience; I got a lemon. You can find my review in the archives of this forum, if you search for it.

Maybe I was just unlucky. It's a shame, because .25 is normally a fun and easy caliber to shoot.

An interesting little video to show what your 25 ply could do. The bullet deformation in the last test in the first video is quite interesting.

Probably a lot of the younger guys will not remember the Raven Arms  25acp auto pistols of years ago but I have two of them.  Both of these pistols have been shot a lot over the years and have performed fantastic for me.  I know they had a reputation of being "Junk" but I dearly love mine and have had absolutely no problems what so ever.  They were cheap but every once in a while you get something cheap and it performs as well as some of the big name guns for a whole lot less of dollars.

dk

Question for antares! Did Taurus get the pistal fixed or did you continue to have problems with it?

antares_b

I ended up sending the gun back to Taurus twice because of issues with the firing pin and the recoil buffer. They did fix the issues, but the gun had lost its charm and I sold it at a loss.

Don't let my experience sour you, dk. Your PLY might be just fine.

Have found the donor pistol for this project; older Baby Browning in great shape. Once delivered and evaluated I can start the project. I will try and provide timeline photos as the project progresses along. Once finished it can join the other members of the Covert Tools Team.

We just got home from a camping trip during which I visited my LGS to transfer a
Taurus PT25, the earlier model, not the PLY.  Blue with rosewood grips.

I have not had a chance to fire it yet, but it feels like a very substantial pistol in the hand,

Those are good looking little pistols and usually shoot reliably in 25 auto. I've seen some with gold accents that really look the part.
