Has anyone had their Guardian gutter sniped?

Uncle_Lee

Hello and welcome Bigtuna.
My 380 Guardian was "gutter sniped" with "night sights" when I bought it.
I wish I had bought one with regular sights on it.
If you use the sights, it takes an hour or so to line them up. (well maybe not that long, but too long)
To use the "night sights", it must be totally dark and when you find the sights, they are like tiny needle points.

I read about a shooting method called "Quell" (I think) that involved those "guttersnipe" sights. IIRC, it had to do with that nifty ASP 9mm compact pistol.

Interesting history behind that sight type. Apparently, it requires specific training to make full use of them. Some of the stuff is non-obvious.

Just put some big dot sights on it and be done with it.

Could you provide a link with more information?

And just out of curiosity why does the forum ask me, "How many legs do most dogs have?" when I go to post?

I don't need any training cause I don't plan on shooting it. 8)

Gutter snipe sights article here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASP_pistol

QuoteThe unique sighting system, referred to as the "Guttersnipe", was a narrowing U-channel with fluorescent yellow panels that would form three triangles, all pointed at the target when the sight was properly aligned.[2]

I can't find the article on how it works.

Anyway summary:

Quell system was 100% instinctive shooting. If you're not smoothly drawing, pointing, emptying, and reloading... then that's "doing it wrong."

How it works for me: Hold in the right hand (I'm lefty,) aim with the left eye with the right arm in a special position, then engage multiple targets quickly. With training, comes speed and tighter groups. It isn't "bullseye" shooting. It's more like "hit them 3 to 5 times RIGHT NOW and anyone else who is a threat." Reloading isn't supposed to be a liability in Quell, it's just supposed to happen. Haven't tried it with guttersnipe, but traditional irons work for me. Quell is supposed to stop you from "aiming." You're not aiming, you're aligning everything and then blasting as soon as possible. It's a learned physical position and muscle memory applies. It is supposed to be impossible to "take your time" with this method.

For me, Quell would actually work if I bothered to train it! I tried it for a bit and actually liked it. The problem is 1) finding enough ammo, and 2) getting a single stack 9 that could stand up to the round count needed. You had to hold your arm a certain way to align the guttersnipe. How you held the pistol was critical to it all coming together, even more important than trigger pull. What I like most is that (for me,) it gives me something to do with my right hand! It actually improved my two-pistol shooting scores somewhat. I need to get back into it!

I ran into a video of someone doing this who dropped 22 rounds in 7 seconds. That sounds like the training goals of the Quell system... smooth instinctive shooting and several empty magazines on the ground.

Quell takes a massive amount of training. By the way, it's a little similar to another shooting technique called "Quick Kill."
