You don't put a suppressor on a revolver.

Revolver or Guardian semi auto?

Revolver - With the cylinder gap, it would still be loud.   With the short barrel, powder would still be burning 12" or more from the cartridge.

There was one revolver that pushed the cylinder forward to close the gap.
The M39 Hushpuppy 9mm semi auto pistol had the option to lock the slide shut.

I've heard a .22lr bolt rifle with a 20" barrel, the firing spring was as loud as the muzzle sound.  Loud spring.  Closed bolt and a long barrel help quiet .22.

As for the Guardians, It doesn't look easy to do.

If someone was interested in noise suppression, Aguila produces (or at least did) no-powder 22 bullets.
Regular and ''supersonic'', as well.  Even the 'super' one is less noise, but the regular is very quiet, and
they are still deadly at least up to 20 feet.  They leave less residue are also really clean.  I like them.  I
think they would be a good idea (like in a car, or in a house) to save your ears.

Don't know if still available but there used to be a plastic device that clamped on the barrel of a .22 that allowed a two liter bottle to screw onto it and you could get maybe 5 shots (quiet shots) before you had to replace the bottle.

Red - those Aguila powderless rounds (Colibri and Super Colibri) are quieter than most .22 rounds. However, I have shot them into a book at a range of less than ten feet and the Super Colibri will barely penetrate the cover of a hardbound book. Good for target practice, and maybe rat control.

Keep in mind that "plastic device" technically requires the same paperwork and fee as does a silencer one screws on.  Still, added to a revolver doesn't suppress much sound, and it will be nigh impossible to add it to a Guardian.  One would have to cut *internal* threads on a Guardian, then find the appropriate male/male reducer fitting.

There is one that has a serial number and can be registered with the tax stamp.  Others use auto oil filters.

If you attach anything to a firearm to lower the sound,it is a suppressor and subject to laws with extreme penalties.

Really?  That surprises me.  I guess personal protection with them is not a good idea.  Thanks for the info.  8)

Yes No, not covered, because it will not supress the report.  The sound waves will be modulated, but not attenuated.  The report will sound lower in pitch.  With a large containter there is too much room at the muzzle to prevent the "bang" from blasting out.

RogueTS1

Somebody last year posted photos of their threaded Guardian. It had an internally threaded barrel and thread adapter to attach suppressor. It was well done and looked great. Something I had to have added to my to do list of suppressed pistols.

That revolver was some Russian revolver. Very quiet when shot.

The cylinder slides forward, each chamber sort of sleeves into the barrel.  Takes care of the gap.

Yes, very nice job.

There's probably more than one. I have a Russian Nagant 1895 revolver in 7.62x38R that closes the gap between the revolver and the barrel when the hammer is cocked. I also have a .32ACP barrel for it. Cool little gun. Here are some pics. Sorry the uncocked picture is blurry, but it shows the obvious gap that is closed when the gun is cocked.

The ammo was also designed to match the closed-gap. See how the bullets are recessed into the casing?

Mine was made in 1932, as you can see by the stamp.

Very cool gun you got there sir...

If I recall clearly, the Nagant revolver was a popular clandestine suppressed option during the 'Nam "observation."

Very nice and unique piece you have MR_22 , great shape and in firing condition I expect . Hows the availability of ammo not too expensive I hope being Russian it should be on the market .  :)

I think there's a .32 acp conversion cylinder for that... If worst should come to worst.

My take.  Do more research is you are going to play in grey areas.
There are websites dedicated to just supressors.  Then talk to people that legally sell them.

If the sound suppression is attached to the firearm, it is covered.  Attached to your arm, not so sure. People have talked about using plastic 12" pipe with carpet over it to quiet down indoor ranges. Stick the firearm in the baffle chamber to shoot.

Ammo isn't too bad to get, but you might have to look for it. I bought some surplus Russian ammo for it (which you can see in the picture) for about $5 for 14 rounds boxes.

You can also get ammo from one manufacturer who makes it for about $25 per box of 50. In fact, 7.62x38R was one of the ONLY calibers left at Cabelas at the height of the Obama Ammo Scare and they've always had plenty of it. I guess not too many people buy it. You can get it here for $24 per box right now:

http://www.sgammo.com/product/prvi-partizan/50-round-box-762x38r-nagant-revolver-ammo-prvi-partizan-ppr71

I've heard this aftermarket ammo has much less velocity than the standard military Russian stuff. I haven't Chrony'ed either myself.

Not sure about that 2GJ. Maybe so. You would probably know more about that than me. But I HAVE heard of people using supressers on them.

Yup. Look near the flap holster in the first picture to see my .32ACP cylinder. I haven't shot .32ACP in it, but it should work fine.

The Viet Cong did use modified suppressed Nagants.  Not common and not used by US forces.

TwoGunJayne

Ahh, but "not used by US forces" was preferential to some interests in certain areas (ahemCambodia/Laosahem). Anyway, VC/NVA used absolutely anything they could get their hands on or drill out and try to fire. They made "Saturday Night Specials" look safe with some of the junk they pulled.

I would definitely like one of those..................

I'd buy a .32 can just for the Guardian if NAA would offer the threaded option. Plus, a flash suppressor on a Guardian (when you're not canning it) just looks kinda cool.

I guess .32 acp would suppress better than .32 NAA.

The threaded Badger that awaiting has made me think about buying a can, and a threaded barrel for my Glock conversion kit, and one for me Berratte 21a and my Ruger TD ect ect where does this madness end????????

With a Badger coming to I have been thinking about a can. Could go right on my Walther P22 as well, already threaded.

akman

I have threaded a .32 guardian and made a thread adapter for use of muzzle devices. I contacted tornado tech about treading this gun. Their specialty is threading barrels but they wouldn't touch this even though i offered them $300 for the job.

So... being a machinist by trade I took it upon myself to thread it myself. I see why they wouldnt touch it for that price.

Half a day of making jigs and tooling, tied up 5 machines while doing this.

The results though are priceless.
