Hammer on the .22 magnum mini revolver

To confirm my understanding, when removing or loading the revolver, there is no position other than the fully cocked that allows the hammer to remain in the open position. All other positions must be manually held?

Actually there is a half-cock position that can be used when removing the cylinder. In that position the hammer is just far enough back that it will not interfere with removing or inserting the cylinder. Below is a photo of a Mini hammer at half-cock

Yes. I get it to that position and might wiggle it a bit from there, depends on the personality of the individual piece.
