That is so sad. I do not understand people that do not make some attempt to prepare to defend themselves from whatever they may encounter these days wether it is man or beast. I guess a lot of people think that others will fight for them, like the police and laws. A lot of those same types shun and try to deter us that choose to defend ourselves. The do not even consider the fact that I may be the guy standing there when some crazy person chimes in on them looking vulnerable and decides to attack them. Who knows a person like me may be the one that makes the decision to put a stop to the attack. One has to be careful about that kind of decision, you never know, the woman may come back and say that the guy was only going to rape her, no need for him to be killed for it.

I stand corrected, I just hope I don't get my butt kicked at the saloon when I tell this group of Hispanic guys they are sheep flockers and not sheep herders. Sheep can actually be in flocks, herds, or mobs. Sheep that are in a small group that are together because they just want to be together are flocks, larger groups that are held together by means of man, dog, or fence are herds. Being down here in Texas everyone knows we don't do small anything. Did y'all know that even the minis that NAA sends to us down here are actually a little larger too? All in fun guys, LOL.

I think that idea was actually created in Texas when the first flocks of sheep where brought down that way and the big Texas cattle barons fought against the sheep ranchers. I think the sheep ranchers just started using the term herds to try and fit in if not avoid arousing suspicions with the cattle men about what they were raising on their ranches. By the time it was figured out it was just too late to get rid of them. Hahaha LOL..................

No Texas person going to be caught with a flock of anything. They only do herds...................

A herd of birds just doesn't sound right though . :)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

We just call a large group of birds "a sh*t load of birds".

A group of crow birds are known as a "murder." Some carrion birds also carry this distinction.

Crow Indians are a different story. For additional reading, consider "Liver Eating Johnson."

Interesting fellow. There were a few like that around here in this state, but they got old.

Quote
"In his time, he was a sailor, scout, soldier, gold-seeker, hunter, trapper, whiskey-peddler, guide, deputy, constable, builder of log cabins, taking advantage of any source of income-producing labor he could find."

Hmm. Sounds more like he was from my state than New Jersey. No wonder he ended up in the wild.

Things tend towards more polite these days. We barely have a killing over liquor as a substance anymore. Drunk people, unfortunately, still do stupid things.

I have a copy of the book  Crow Killer about John Johnston. Quite interesting. A friend of mine's great uncle knew John Johnston back in Leadville,CO.  Times were tough  men were tougher.

Back in the 70's they made a movie based on the book. "Jeremiah Johnson " was no where near what the book was. Typical of Hollywood.

Getting back to the basic topic on this thread,I think that folks now are getting pretty tired of being pushed around and are now taking legal stands getting things back on track.

Many states now have  "castle doctrine/stand your ground" laws and parole boards are now coming under close scrutiny for releasing violent repeat offenders.

Nothing is going to happen overnight but if the people put constant pressure on the lawmakers, things can change.

+100 on this sentiment!

Lawmakers need feedback from the people they represent otherwise they tend to vote the way they think things should be.

It seems now, they tend to do that anyway regardless of the overwhelming opposition to the gun laws passed in my state last year.

It seems that they forget that they are supposed to represent us.

That's like my "4th Branch of Government" that I keep suggesting.

While Congress is in session, there must be normal citizens with torches, pitchforks, and rope. They oversee all of the junk said and done by Congress.

I think it'd send the right message.

TwoGun,
I tend to agree with you on that. Lawmakers must be held accountable for their actions and, most of all,not be above the law.

It seems that they think that they can and do anything that they want.

Lots of luck with that top dog. They remind me more of the ancient Roman Senate then the congress of the USA....

Nastruck,
Yep,I tend to agree with you on that. Sorry state of affairs.
