Looking for a Talo Black Jack First edition with wood grips.

big_gus

I have the First Edition BlackJack NIB. I ordered it when they first came out and its been in the safe ever since. Mines in the early 800 range, they made 1500 of them-still has the "BlackJack 21" sticker in the box stating this. Hadn't really thought about selling it, but may consider it. Just chance I ran across this post searching for ballistics out of short barrels... just ordered a brick of Gold Dot 22 mags. big_gus (same as on Coltforum, over 2k posts there :) )

PS I also have a Snake Eyes too (bought here:), or old forum rather), they only made 500 of those I believe..., mines in the VERY late 400 range, I'm assuming one of the last ones made...?

We have rather a lot of that, but it's scattered about pretty thoroughly. Any barrel in particular? Looking for info on a particular ammo?

Well hey, thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately, I have not personally tested Gold Dots as nobody carries them locally here.

Here's a fun thread about FPE.

I was actually searching for ballistics for CCI segmented 22 long rifles. Velocity states on box is 16XX (without actually going back and digging for it), of course this is out of a rifle. I carry these in my NAA lr mini. Was wondering how it stacked up against the Gold Dot mags was why I was searching. Just got in my brick of GD's yesterday, first time I have found them in stock (reasonable price) anywhere since I noticed they made them. Midway has them right now, but shipping is always about $20. They have them for $139.99, but use code OFF20WEL14 and save $20.00!!! (it works on ammo!) I didnt get to use it on my GD's because the code wasn't available then (must have came out yesterday), but did get to use it on some 17HMRs this morning. Code can only be used once per person :(... Rare to run across codes that work on AMMO!!!

Ahh, gotcha. CCI "Quik Shok" has exterior ballistics pretty much just like the CCI Stinger. Unfortunately, the CCI segmented bullets don't do much as far as penetration. They're designed to "gib" small varmints and pests. In the first couple of inches, they're awesome. As far as FPE and muzzle velocity, they're great.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CCI_%28ammunition%29
QuoteStinger

Another highly popular varmint load is the Stinger. This is a 32-grain (2.1 g) copper-plated hollow-point bullet with tear-drop cavity for complete disruption, with a muzzle velocity of 1,640 ft/s (500 m/s) - the fastest 22 LR with varmint-class accuracy. This hypervelocity is achieved by increasing the cartridge length to allow more powder, yet it still remains within SAAMI 22 Long Rifle pressure standards and is loaded with a lighter 32-grain (2.1 g) bullet. The Stinger can be easily identified by its longer nickel-plated casing.[7]
Quik-Shok

Quik-Shok, now known as Segmented hollow point, loads are copper-plated segmented hollow-points that fragment into 3 sections on impact. These are intended to cause quick disruption on varmint type game. CCI offers Quik-Shok in a 32-grain (2.1 g) load at 1,640 ft/s (500 m/s) (same velocity as Stinger), or a 40-grain (2.6 g) subsonic load at 1,050 ft/s (320 m/s). The subsonic load is intended for hunting around a populated area when a quiet, effective round is needed.[7]

I'd steer away from using them on 2-leggers. CCI Stingers are one of the best for that, with the Velocitor offering great performance and penetration from the minis. The Gold Dot .22 mag is very highly regarded and other loads are going to have a hard time competing.

I'd avoid the subsonic segmented rounds all together, personally.

Then again, I carry .22 mag FMJ CCI Maxi Mag in a Black Widow because I like penetration. A full pass-through torso shot is possible if you don't hit the spine. A lot of JHP rounds don't expand from a mini anyway, but the new crop of self-defense rounds will. (Gold Dot, Hornady Critical Defense from a 4" barrel, etc.)

One of my FFL's recommended the HV CCI Segmented as one of the best for self defense pistols, him being such a "gun nut" (that's a huge complement in "my world" by the way), great re-loader, etc., I never thought to question it. I did read somewhere that they left "nasty wounds" in stuff/things, of course disabling would be attacker is most important. I haven't shot any of the Gold Dots yet or haven't had to opportunity to buy the 45 grain Hornady's you spoke of. I would like to get those also, because research said they were good out of rifles too. All said the Gold Dots sucked out of a rifle, but rated #1 on most lists out of a snubby.

Well, the quik-shoks are really nasty, but shallow. They can do scary looking things to stuff like apples as this is about the size of what they were intended to blast.

http://www.firearmstactical.com/briefs27.htm
This guy says the quick shoks are only making it 5-8 inches in gel, getting about 1000fps from a Beretta 21 mousegun. It'd be a heck of a neck-shot round or up the nostrils. Each segment is only going to be 10+ grains, so heavy bone just might stop them.

They frag in just an inch or two, probably outside the rib cage on a torso shot.

I just haven't been a fan of them, personally. I think they'd be great for self-defense if you've a full auto .22 lr SMG.

Uncle_Lee

Sorry, I just sold a sequential set in 22 mag/22 LR.

I saw pics of a Talo PBJ (ported black jack) with conversion cylinders. Never held one, but it sure looked sweet.

That's interesting Jayne. When I started searching, I never found reference to any except for uncle lee's WTS Thread where he said he had bought 2 lr conversion cylinders and had them coated black. http://naaminis.com/smf/index.php?topic=3722.msg59274#msg59274
I did find a place which just had the BlackJack incorrectly listed as 22lr only, but as you read the description, you could see it was a mistake. If there are some factory BJ conversions, they would have to be very rare and very desirable imo!!!
By the way, I've been wondering ever since I saw your first post, do or did they ever make a Super long barreled Mini-Master like in your pic??? :) IF so I want one! (I had the regular lr Mini-master one time but it didnt shoot good, my 1" barrel would out shoot it lol, so it went bye-bye)

Yes, I had LR cylinders fitted to them and sent the cylinders to the company that coated the Black Jacks and had them coated to match.
Those are one of a kind (unless someone else did the same).

That would be it. A one-off can be the toughest mini to chase.

We of the forum got together for a super long barrel custom group buy. Unfortunately, the market is so crazy right now that basically all American gun companies are cranking it out at 120% capacity. Once things calm down, we are still planning on getting that 9.5" barrel run... or at least *I* still feel committed once Sandy and the Smiths start releasing one-offs again.

We were considering calling it the "Super Hog," in honor of the Hogleg.

There are a lot of complications with a super buntline barrel on a mini frame, primarily something called "barrel whip." See also, the NAA Bicycle Rifle (another one-off custom.) It had velocity, but accuracy was low. Anyway, 9.5 inches was chosen to fit in the standard shoebox. Much longer than that will be tough to draw from a custom leg holster.

My idea on the Super Hog leg holster: The lining of a pants pocket is removed, allowing CC access to the piece carried along a thigh. It should allow carry and draw of the superlong, but it won't come out in a hurry. I own no safe queens. My pair of Super Hogs would be shooters and also carried.

9.5" is some sweet ballistics in .22 mag!  ;)

Is it overkill? "Too much" velocity? Probably. Since when did getting new minis have to be practical or even rational? :)

Wow, this is why I wish I would have stayed with the forum. I stopped after I got my Ranger (when prices went crazy), and then my EB sidewinders which I anticipated greatly!!! The gun I always said I would like the most (other than a swing-cylinder mini, which was long before the sidewinder was made) was a super long barreled mini and of course the Mini Master would be the top of that list for me to shoot. I did buy the hogleg which I like, but the 9.5 inch barrel MM in 22lr would be SO AWESOME. Anyone want to sell theirs :) ???

Any idea how many were made/ordered? Thanks.

QuoteThe Curious, Custom and Collectible Shop is an opportunity for you to purchase – factory direct* - a variety of unique &/or unusual firearms manufactured by North American Arms. These firearms will fall into three general categories

Design Your Own
Limited Production
Distributor Specials

Design Your Own, as the name suggests, is your choice of a combination of machining services and accessories (including custom serial numbers) from those identified as available on our website/in our catalog.

Limited Production are those pieces made "on speculation" by the factory for the benefit of retail customers looking for something extraordinary. Examples of these include the currently available Golden Eye series of highly polished and 24 karat gold plated minirevolvers, and the lightly engraved Guardians with polished appointments and custom shop. These are typically made in much smaller batches (typically 10 ea.) and so are even "more collectible" that the LE pieces (below). If there appears to be an audience for any given series of LP pieces, the factory may manufacture another small batch at its discretion. These pieces are not handled by our distributors but will be offered to any FFL (with an appropriate discount) who purchases two or more pieces. Custom serial numbers are not available on Limited Production guns.

Unfortunately, NAA has been really slammed during the Great Obama Gun Frenzy, so their one-off production has been halted until further notice.

Hopefully, they'll give us a heads up when they're ready.

Speaking of Baby Brownings; I just picked up the stainless Bauer Baby Browning this morning. She had proper browning grips added, taken apart and cleaned up, internals adjusted a bit and she is almost like brand new. The pocket pistol section of the vault is becoming a bit overweight.
