Along the lines of RJP's "stopping power" thread. What ammo makes and weights do you like form your minis?

In my Short, I like both the solids and HP's. I feel that with this lil bugger its probably bets served (defensively) with a solid bullet. CCI is my first choice.

In my LR, I love the idea of the CCI Velocitors. Its a std weight bullet, at top velocity for best energy figures from this caliber. Now is it really beating other offerings from the little 1 1/8" barrel... Another I like the idea of is the CCI segmented. I also like the Aguila SSS 60g bullets. I have chrono'd them form rifle barrels and they get to 900 fps! That's a 50% heavier bullet!!  That's a little BETTER vel than the 32 ACP with SAME weight but a better bullet for penetration. I carry these most of the time I carry the LR Mini.

In my Maggies, I like the Winchester PDX1 and Speer Gold Dots best.

What do you like and why?

The shortage is still going on around here.

Its thin and light one of my favorites!

I like CCI hp's in my shorty, Gold Dots in my Widow, and First two in the 1 5/8" mini to be CCI shotshells with next three Maxi Mag +V's.

I prefer to shoot ammo someone else bought :)

For carry in my mag, I like either Hornady Critical Defense or Speer Gold Dots

I buy ammo that will cycle my Ruger MkII.   CCI or Federal Classic are best.

I was never a fan of Stingers or HYPER velocity 22lr in my 10/22, they just were not as accurate as high velocity ammo.  Given the Mini 22lr role, who cares at 7 yards, off by a little.

I never shoot ammo that is bare lead.  Not a big fan of cleaning barrels more than I have to clean.

Speaking of cleaning, I have a question - should your weapon be cleaned after every day of shooting or after a certain number of rounds or what?  You know, like your oil is changed every 3 months or 3000 miles?

My firearms get cleaned after use. (At the very least wiped down well.) Just like any and all tools that I own. Take care of your tools and they will take care of you. Is it "required" no, is it a good idea. I think so. You decide for yourself.

I have two major hang ups in the firearms world. Calling a firearm a "weapon" and a magazine a "clip". Knowledge is power we stop learning the day we meet our maker.

I do not really care if one calls a magazine a "clip" even though it is not exactly the correct terminology but to refer to one's firearm/gun as a weapon is perfectly OK by me. To me every firearm is a weapon as that is what it was designed to be. It may give some a stigma as to being thought of in a negative fashion by those not part of the gun culture but then I do not let myself be too worried about what the "nay sayers" think about our gun culture.

A firearm is just a certain kind of weapon.

I disagree, its merely a tool. WHAT a person chooses to DO WITH IT causes it to become a weapon.  ;)

The word weapon is a transitive verb, it was first used about the 12th century.

It was taken on by our military and many soldiers have been trained calling it a weapon. It can be a hard habit to break. But for most us, regular folks, its a just firearm. Perception IS reality today. I don't like that, but that's the world we live in.

If you are useing it to shoot beer cans or targets then it is a toy!!! If you are useing it to shoot open a lock or something like that it is a Tool. If you are useing it to defend yourself, wether it be from a crackhead or a snake then it is a Weapon! Other than that is is just merely a Firearm!

RogueTS1

I agree that it is a tool. To me that is just another word to describe one of its uses. What one calls a firearm I would guess would depend on what one uses it for. In my case, they are always used as weapons. Instruments/tools capable of dealing death whether to game or to enemies...... but I see your point.

After reading all these I've come to the conclusion that its a toy when dry firing at the T.V. , it's a tool when driving tack heads at thirty paces and a weapon when you have it stuck in some jackasses ear when he's robbing your place . Oh one more it's a shoe when home with Unc_Lee . :) :) :) :) :) :)

I doubt if the first firearms were used to shoot beer cans.

Federal Automatch .22 lr ammo seems to be the most compatible ammo I've tried, even in my pickiest .22 semis.

Kevin55

Cleaning can depend on the ammo, how dirty is the powder.
I agree with toy or tool for cleaning.  Unless your toy shoots old corrosive primer ammo.

Also, I agree with the magazine vs clip term. Being a stickler is often about ego. Same with the assault weapon misuse... Maybe not correct, but a misuse of a term won't stop an ignorant politician from pushing a ban agenda.

kingt

Speer GoldDots.  I only shoot mags.
CCI is OK too.  I find Federal primers too hard and get misfires from them.

I like the CCI TNT 22m mag round. It's known for its stopping among those
who hunt Coyotes and other type a small game.

I also like that it does not use flash-retarding propellants. That means it throws out a fireball of a muzzle flash.
This might help in scarring an attacker away. He might run thinking you are firing at him with a 1911 45 Colt.

CCI TNT (#0063) in .22 WMR seems to be the only magnum round that expands reliably 100% of the time. In .22 LR I'll load CCI Velocitors and Stingers.
