Remington 1911 R1 - finally got one!

Some of y'all might remember that early this year I was trying to decide which 1911 to purchase. My buddy who works at Remington can get me a good discount, so that was gonna be the most economical way to get one...or so I thought.

My pal and about 75 others were (temporarily) laid off by the plant in Mayfield, KY and I thought maybe that was the end of that.

But I walked into my local gun shop the other day and found a used R1 Enhanced at about 1/2 of the original MSRP. Couldn't get out the money fast enough!

Some of you will love it, some will hate it. It's a special 2-tone edition of the Enhanced with fiber optic front sight and pearl grips. I know. I'm a pimp. I can't help it! I love pearl grips!

So here it is:

You can see the 2-tone a little more clearly in this photo:

I like it! I always liked the look of pearl grips, although I don't have any. Don't drop it, they break! :)

Please, pearl grips on anything larger than a .380 is borderline sinful.
A 1911 is a manly gun and if you want to dress it up tastefully, go ivory.

My manly side agrees with you 100%, but the pimp in me loves the pearl. Besides, I can't afford ivory - if you can even buy it anymore. I think it's borderline illegal to have ivory in your possession regardless of when it was harvested, imported or acquired. They're even making it illegal to have ivory piano keys! Scary stuff.

I am not much for pearl grips but I do not hate them. I think it is a beautiful gun.

PS: the person that originally purchased my Gen I Colt in 1896 had a bit of "Pimp" in him evidently because he ordered pearl grips.

Very nice! Beautiful bluing. This is my Stainless R-1 I picked up last year. It's a really nice shooter.

I gave my Remington 1911R1 Standard to my oldest Grandson, who's been shooting my 1911 .45's ever since he was 11 years old (he's now 23) :

Very nice 45. Make a good backup gun if your NAA derringer fails to stop a bad guy.
I've got the standard model and really like it.

The ivory issue should also be of concern to anyone who plays any form of billiards.  While billiard balls are no longer made of ivory, which is good because phenolic balls are better for a variety of reasons, ferrules of cues often are.  In addition, the cue industry has come up with a few ivory substitutes that are designed to look and feel like ivory, but are not actual ivory.  How is a law enforcement officer supposed to be able to tell the difference between materials?  ??? And what is the real benefit of all of this anyway?

I enjoy billiards.  I enjoy playing the game, watching it on TV, watching it live, and watching footage of the sport on you-tube and similar websites.  My favorite game is probably one-pocket, although I have taken a liking to the Finnish game of Kaisa even though that game is only popular in a handful of countries in Europe.  One pocket is a very equipment sensitive game.  The quality of the balls, the rack, the felt, the rails and your cue all have an effect on the game.  In addition to their main playing  cue, a serious one-pocket player will also have another cue just for the lag-for-break. (Not the actual break shot, the player will still use their main playing cue for that, but the shot both players shoot to determine who gets to break.  The break shot in one-pocket is a significant advantage.) Nine-ball and eight-ball players typically use a different cue for breaking and another one for jump shots.  Balkline, strait rail, and three cushion players also typically have a cue for shooting masse shots.

And the ferrules on some of these different cues might be made of ivory.  But how is the law enforcement officer to know?  ???

With quality cues starting at about $300 in price, a serious billiard player might have $2000 invested in their cues.  That might not seem to be a lot of money to some people, but it is more than I want law enforcement to confiscate and potentially damage while things get sorted out.

I apologize for this blatantly off topic rant.  Not sure if it qualifies as "thread drift" or not.

Finally had a chance to take this one to the range today. I like it a LOT.

Sights are great, very easy to pick up the red fiber optic front site and it makes a nice, clean site picture.

Slide is very, very smooth and not especially hard to rack - in fact, it's easier than my Glock 17.

Trigger pull is short, smooth and VERY light - almost a hair-trigger. Helps my accuracy.

No complaints so far!

I really like the pearly grips, that's a super awesome pistol Paducah the bluing appears to have a sort of green sheen...

That might be the reflection off the box, what a great box  :)

Another sweet piece Pietro thanks for the picture .  :)

Pietro, that is a beauty! I like the white highlights - was that factory or did you do that? Either way, it looks great.

Taxi  - yep - the green is a reflection from the box. It's REALLY dark bluing - reminds me of S&W finish.

I really enjoyed shooting this one yesterday. Might have to get out to the range one afternoon this week...if I can afford a box of ammo!

I had flowed some gold paint into the slide lettering (both sides) after de-greasing - but My Grandson liked the white paint better, since he added the VG olive green double diamond custom grips to it.

He also likes the Commander-style rowel hammer (from Caspian Arms) that I installed ILO the issue Gov't Model long spur hammer.

That R1 has about 5K rounds down it's throat, between me, then him, shooting it - all with zero issues, BTW.

;)I like the wood grips best,,,but they all look great...

PaducahMichael

Bill, I think the GI version is really great looking, and the wood grips are certainly classic. I just have a weak spot (between my ears?) for pearly grips.

Someday I'll buy the GI 1911 and live happily ever after.

So, I bought a Remington 1911 today at Cabela's. I really like it. It was on sale at Cabela's for $100. I really like it! :)

When I got it home, I put on a nice set of wooden 1911 grips, which I got for my RIA 22TCM 1911, before I realized that double-stack 1911's don't take the same grips. It also fits perfectly in my Triple-K 1911 holster. Can't wait to try it out!

Here it is pictured with my RIA .45ACP 1911. They look almost identical. Almost the same weight and dimensions and has identical feel in my hand. Sweet gun! ;)

$100???? How many more do they have at that price?  Heckuva  deal!!

Haha, read what it says on the box. :) It WAS on sale, but it's definitely not a .45! It's all metal and the slide even works when you shoot it. It's really cool that I can put standard 1911 grips on it and use a standard 1911 holster. No background check on this one, tho. The reviews I have seen on it have been very positive, so when I saw one at Cabela's, I had to have one. So far I'm really impressed.

RogueTS1

You should see the Colt's I have. They are licensed Air Soft pistols. They function just like the real firearms but run off CO2 loaded into the magazine and fire 6mm airsoft pellets. You cannot tell them from the real thing.

Very nice. A buddy of mine has an R1 and has been really happy with it.

Love me some 1911s. Hope its not considered thread jacking if I post a few of mine?

RogueTS1
