No ax to grind here, but do know the dealer and know they are straight shooters.

Hey, I have one of those! I haven't shot it. As I understand, they are better to look at than to shoot. They are interesting.

Sounds like you are describing a woman, Randy.

I might get me a Butler. I've really tried to figure out WHY I want one of these. I haven't come up with much, other than "it's a gun!" Duh. LOL.

I never understood why anyone would design and build a single shot .22 short! What were they thinking? But...I liked the Butler when I saw it, possibly because, as you say, "it's a gun". What other reason does one need? I think mine would shoot but after a little research, decided I would just look at it.

Looks like something I would put in a shadowbox and mount on the wall.

Hey Randy, Colt actually made a gun sorta like this in the 1800's.  Don't know in what caliber.

I had one of these back when they came out.  The little guns were somewhat pricey for the time but we were in the days of endless TV Westerns and fast draw clubs and events.  I "think" in the early episodes of, "Have Gun, Will Travel", Boone carried a single shot along these lines, later to trade up to a O/U Remington type.

Blitz was right on, it wasn't to shoot and actually hit something.

I have one that looks exactly like it, except mine is a .31cal. BP mod. All brass includig the smooth bore Bbl.

I built (actualy just assembled & finished) it from a kit I bought from Cabelas (I think) yrs ago.

Takes 10gr (recommended min/max 5/10) FFFG & .312 round ball #10 cap. It's really alot of fun to shoot, but of little use as a weapon. It might actualy penetrate fairly well, but your odds of hitting anything smaller then a motorhome over 3' away, are slim to none.

Have a set of Colts like that in 22 short. One is all gold and one is gold with blue barrel. The gold one has pearl grips and the other has wood grips. They are a pretty set. First guns I ordered when I first got a FFL in 1973. My wife claimed them when they came, and I guess they are still hers. FFL has been gone for a while, but wife is still here.

These were originally marked and marketed by Colt.  When the order ran out, Butler continued to make them in their own name...........  Barrel swings to the side, and they shoot just fine............

Ricart..

I belive the Colt guns you are talking about were 41 Rimfires.../

tom

Colt made a derringer in the early Sixties chambered in .22 short.  It was a copy of the older derringers which were in .41 short rimfire.  They were sold both singly and in pairs.

Colt bought National in the Eighteen-sixties and simply marked guns made after that time with their name.

Here are a couple of the Colts for sale...........  As you can see they are the same as the Butler.  Neat little guns all the same.........
