I have read several posts and am very confused.  I need someone to help me decide on what caliber I wish to buy my NAA gun in.

The gun I am interested in would have a 1 5/8" barrel.  I have read that in barrels under 4" that .22 long rifle may be as effective as .22 magnums????

If this is so, I would order the .22 long rifle gun as the ammo is cheaper.

I would appreciate your help.  Thank you, Bryan

  Welcome aboard Oklahoma what ever you get might just as well get the conversion cylinder model for the best of both worlds for a minimal price increase for both . Hard to pin down any given model of NAA . Good luck deciding anyhow .  ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

OklahomaBryan - if you are undecided, get a 1 5/8" Magnum conversion. You will have a Mag cylinder to shoot magnums if you want, and a LR cylinder to shoot LR, longs, and shorts. I have one, and it is a fine gun. Of course, each of my NAA minis is also a fine gun; but the 1 5/8" conversion is a good gun to start with. As OV-ID noted, the price difference between a 1 5/8" LR and a 1 5/8" conversion is quite small.

I admit that I am a bit prejudice, but the magnum is superior. But luckily you really don't need to choose. as mentioned just get a convertible OR return it to NAA for a cylinder in the other caliber.

Did I say just but the Maggie?  :o ::) ;D ;D ;D

My Pug is the first 22 magnum that I have owned. When I took it to the range sound of it surprised me.  One thing I can tell you is if you ever have to use it even if you miss your target you will scare the hell out of them.  ;D But as everyone said get the conversion. You can buy a brick of 22's for about what 100 rounds of magnum rounds would cost.

Can't go wrong with a 1 5/8" Conversion.

WELCOME!!

It is hard to beat the magnum. If you will actually do a lot of shooting, the conversion will pay for itself, and then some. If you shoot enough to become proficient, then just maintain, it would likely pay for itself anyway. I find when I shoot my minis, I typically just shoot mags, and don't worry about the details. If I want to shoot LR, I prefer a Ruger Mark II or Single Six. A day at the range is not the first thoughts I have for my minis. I use them for emergency self defense, not a range gun.

In he spirit of full disclosure, I do enjoy my 3" Earl for plinking. It is as accurate as I am, and a lot of fun.

 ;)welcome okie bryan,,,I too would have to agree go for the conv.not just because of this or that,,,ones better for whatever reason than another ect,,,above and beyond all that,,,one thing to think about right now in current shape of things,,,will you be able to find ammo.????in 22 lr. or 22 mag.???????ive been lucky I guess ive prob. got more then I need of 22lr,,,,however I could always use a little more crit.defn,, or speer gold dot self defn./// I would like to try winchester pdx in 22 mag..... the hornd.,,,speer gold dot self defn. Winchester pdx is all made for short barrel guns in 22 mag. and is harder to get hold of,,,,if you cant find something like that in 22 mag. then you could try some stingers 22lr. I really don't know all the stats.on how stingers would stack up against the short barrel self denf. 22 mag. stuff,,, however I don't know of any volunteers who"d be willing to step out in front of one,,,let alone five of them........I have the mini mag. conv. with 1-5/8"and it has worked like a champ I plan to buy other models in near future,,,ive seen many being offered on buds gun shop,,,, prob. where I"ll buy from,,,as I am a team buds member,,,and they are like vaporware in most gun shops in my area of ohio...word of advise(caution)some mag. rounds are really hot!!!!!!!!!hard to hold onto,,, keep a good grip and no problems........they can be like ole buck owens used to sing about,,,i got a tiger by the tail!!!!!!!lol,,,not that bad really but still be aware of what your shooting and all...........

 ;)one other thing is,,,,22 lr shot shell is ok,,,,however the 22 mag. shot shell will have a little more punch,,,right now its all in what you can find really.......
