so I'm thinking that we should start a fund for one of our fellow members to get a lock on his shoe box I will put in the first $.01 lol
for real though it hits the mark on we should ALL be better at keeping the firearms that we have locked up.  so this is just my .02 worth. What are you thoughts?

Storing firearms more securely would help eliminate a lot of the negative press surrounding gun violence.  Even though my kids are grown I keep all my guns but my carry guns and pest rifle locked in the safe.  I even separate the bolt from my tree rat rifle and stash it away from the gun.  My guns are in a locked safe in a locked closet.  Also in the closet are locked gun cases full of old tools.  If the thieves ever get into the closet I suspect that they'll scoop up the locked and weighted cases as the alarm is sounding and leave the safe alone.  At least that's the plan.

I think we should have one day each year reserved as "secure your firearm day".

We have this for smoke detectors, why not for firearms?  It could even be quarterly:

shotguns in the Winter, handguns in the Spring, rifles in the Summer and CCW in the Fall.

Perhaps the NRA could sponsor and proper gun safety could be taught as part of the message.

Even establishing a dialog on the importance of knowing your firearm status would be helpful.

I have mine safe for at least 2 more months.
I wrapped all the shoe boxes in pretty paper. On each is a notice "Do Not Open Until Christmas".
So they are safe until then.

We should all keep an inventory (Excel works) of our firearms with serial numbers, locations and perhaps their condition state (loaded, chambered, etc.) and accessories.  From a safety perspective, this will alert our heirs to where to find them and not have an unintended accident.

In addition, having a value assessment is helpful so widows and children do not undervalue our investments or dispose of items they deem of little value.  Noting which have never been fired can help as well.

This inventory would also apply to knives, fishing equipment and other items that may appear to have only sentimental value.

I have seen estates selling firearm collections for fractions of their real value.  I would hate for mine to end up that way as I consider it to be the most fun part of my investment portfolio that rarely depreciates.

They are my wife's shoe boxes. She has small feet therefore small boxes. That is why I collect minis.

We live in an apartment complex for old folks that can no longer take care of their place.
It is the last stop before the nursing home or the funeral home.
