I agree with you all about situational awareness. It keeps you from getting into situations requiring dis-engagement.

"Perhaps I am more pragmatic than I should be but I consider carrying a relief should an "oh crap" moment occur.  If you have ever been in a car and know you are going to be in an accident, that is similar to what I am referring to... is my seatbelt on, will my airbag work, will I live...these thoughts are after...I know he is going to stop...I think I can get in the other lane."

All my wrecks were well before air bags and seat belts.
Well, a couple after seat belts.

A few.
Well, some folks don't get to have any so I took their turn.

I had a need for speed and the roads were curvy. 49 to 54 Chevys were top heavy & I rolled a couple of them.

In my state(NJ) the fanatical anti-gunners in the legislature think that carry guns in the hands of lawbiding civilians will create another wild west.  Get caught packing in NJ and it's three and a half mandatory in the can.
You're not allowed to defend yourself.  You must wait for the cops to arrive to clean up the mess if you're lucky enough to survive.

I see that 55 folks voted in this poll. About 80% sometimes or normally carry a Mini for their primary self defense gun. About 11% sometimes carry a Mini as a backup gun, and about 9% never carry a Mini for self defense.

As I remarked earlier, I expected more folks to carry a Mini as a backup. It seems clear that most folks on this forum really believe in these guns, which is not surprising considering that the forum is the NAA forum.

I think that most of the people who trust minis, feel (as I do) that the probability of multiple attackers hopped up on PCP is not a real threat.  I have more 'firepower' at my home, but I pick and choose where I go and the circumstances I will be in.

Running away is not an option for me, If confronted I have to stand my ground.

I am a survivor. I will do anything necessary to protect myself and my family. I have devoted enough time with accessing the weapon I happen to be carrying, aim and shooting it, to have confidence in them. My first plan of attack is to run away as fast as possible (dis-engage the situation) and my next plan is to .............. It will happen so fast, it will be reactional...and I hope God protects me.

Never run away; it is called a, "Tactical Retreat."

In Florida here I read that they are reviewing the option to let people open carry also . Some lawyer is representing some guy that was stopped on the street while open carrying and now others are questioning the 2nd amendment as it reads . We are allowed to open carry while fishing , hunting and camping to and from and doing these things , it's great . Sorry for most of you YANKS up there . Ha ha ha . ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

A new trick I learned in the refresher ccw course I just took was to carry a super bright led flashlight, at least a 100 lumen s but the more the better. shine that sucker in an attackers eyes and he done for at least a min or more giving you time to Oh Oh wait for it..... Tactical retreat or more time to draw and aim. These lights are so bright they work even in bright sunlight. The will disorientate someone for a min or so. I know I've mentioned more then once here that I worry more about home invasion then being attacked on the street. I now have a 600 lumen flashlight next to my bed along with my fire power.

Indiana has had open carry for a couple of years now.

If you open carry, you are just asking to be the first one shot if trouble comes along.
You loose all hope of having surprise on your side.

But if you just want to show off your handgun, go for it.

I have always used a shoulder holster under a shirt, vest, or jacket even when hunting or fishing.
A holster on my belt always got hung in the bushes and weeds and I ended up with a bunch of leaves hanging around my gun.
I didn't (don't) hunt and fish where they keep it nice and mowed and trimmed.
