I have a Naa Companion cap and ball. The bullets that come with it are a 30gr round nose with a indented ring around the base to index into the chamber for easy loading. On another sight I found a second style of Naa .22 bullet. A 30gr truncated cone with a flat bottom and a lube or crimp ring half way up and no indent for seating. Has anyone fired this in your Companion? Could not find it on the NAA sight. The dealer might have the wrong picture. It is listed as a NAA product.

The chambers on the Companion cylinder have a shoulder half way down inside that necks down the chamber. I read several theories for this. To limit powder volume, limit seating depth,to make it hard to convert it to fire cartridge ammo. One guy said this is proof that the original design used smokeless powder. BAD IDEA!!!! Do not try!

The shoulder couldn't limit the powder volume. I'll bet you could keep on pouring until it ran out the top of the chamber.
If you are going to convert the cylinder to fire a cartridge you would have to bore out the rear of the cylinder so just continue through the chamber.

Those two are not true.
There fore it is to limit the seating depth. Which is why the shoulder is there.

If you don't have a measure.
Fill the chamber up to the shoulder and seat the bullet to the shoulder.
That way you don't have to worry about an air pocket between the powder and the bullet and you don't have to worry about over compression of the powder.
