I had to go to Lowes this morning and on the way home I stopped at a LGS. I was just hoping but not expecting to find any 22 ammo. I've  been looking for shorts for the last few years and I wanted some CD 22 mags. Surprise, surprise they had both shorts  $4.95 per box and Gold Dots $16.95 per box. Got me two of each!!!!

$4.95/ box of shorts :(, $16.95/ box of LRs :o. Have you no shame? I still have some boxes of .22 shorts that have price tags of 49 cents.

To find *any* .22 rimfire ammo in stock is an accomplishment these days. Congrats. On the other hand, I still have the remains of several bricks that I paid less than $10/brick years ago.  >:(

BTW- I believe those Gold Dots are .22 Magnum. I have several boxes of Gold Dot Magnums bought online last week. If they make a Gold Dot Long Rifle, it's news to me.

I don't think the Gold Dots are too over priced. Yes they are CD mags not LRs. The shorts may be over price but I have not seen shorts for several years. The last time they were $8 a box. Couldn't do that but I'm pretty happy with today's purchase. Now I need to take time to go to the range and warm up a mini or two....

That was a bit of money in 1964 and 1971 though, was it not Uncle Lee?

Considering hourly wage then vs now and cost vs now, the price is about the same in hours worked to buy them.

But I am on Social Security now so my wage is more like the "then" wage so high price tags choke me.
If it wasn't for our IRA, my wife and I would not be living like we do and I wouldn't have my minis.

So all that brings me to speak to the youngsters in our audience.
If you have a 401K available to you, get into it and save the max. You are going to need it if you don't want live on the street.
Really! Honestly! No Bullcrap!!!

My wife is a tad younger than myself so I knew she would outlive me by a bunch. She would need money to live on after I died so I started saving in the 401K. If I had not done that life would be totally awful today. I started saving for her future not mine and everything came out real good for us.

OK, so you know a better way to save than the 401K. Do it. Just do something. You are (if the Country lasts) going to need it.
Don't wait until you are 50 or 60, do it now.
There are some that know a "better" way, they just never get around to doing it.

VERY GOOD ADVICE!! I did it years ago, and I thank God I did! I am very blessed, worked for it, and I  depend on no one but myself. If we had not done it, I,d be working part time at Wall-mart LOL! NOT  THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH WORKING PART TIME AT WALL-MART.  :)

CTD supposedly had some Hornady V-max in stock during the weekend, I ordered some boxes and was happy as can be for the rest of the day..  Till the next day when as I thought would happen I received the email saying the stock was either not available or sold out  >:(

Went to Walmart last night, and wife and I each got 3 bulk packs of 222 Winchester 22s. I went back this morning and got 3 more.

Went to a grand opening today for a new "Field & Stream" store near me, they claimed to have 4000 Federal 325 packs, 3000 Remington bricks and 900 buckets of 1400 count Remington. When we got there, there were still 500- 700 people in the parking lot line. I saw two guys coming out, each with 2 buckets of Remington and asked them if there was any hope of getting some. He was there 2 hours before opening and was number 500 in line and they were on the last pallet of Remington buckets, with still 500-700 people in the line I decided to just go home. On the way back to my truck, a guy asked me if I wanted one of his buckets, he only wanted one, I didn't hesitate at the extra $10 he asked, made my day.

Went by Academy today and found 2 boxes of mags on an ammo cart, the guy working there came to see if I needed anything and I asked if they had more magnums, he said yea and let me sneak a couple more boxes out which was pretty cool of him(they put the limit down to 2).  He said they had quite a few .22 WMRs right now though.

I only hoard brass  till I get a pail full. I have sols 50 gallons for scrap in the last 6 years that I shot in revolvers. Have a pail setting in the garage with 3 more gallons in it.
Probably shot another 15+ gallons through semi autos in that time, but couldn't save that brass.  Wife won't go long and pick it up, so I deduct that money from her allowance.

I did go to Walmart tonight and got three 100 packs of CCI mini mags. They are a little spendy for cow pies and small rocks and such, so will save them till last, or for use on intruders and that sort of thing. I think if I stop in the morning on my way out of town, early, I can get three more,  Headed for a gun show tomorrow, 300 miles away. Need all that kind of stuff out of the way, while I can remember what I am doing.

Kentucky Kevin

Walmart in Murray, KY had 4 100 rnd boxes for $10 each, I passed.

I think he did good! You won't see shorts for .49c ever again. I remember filling up my gas tank when I was in high school for about .95c per gallon. So? Doesn't mean a thing saying that today.

That's a good price for Gold Dots, from what I've seen. I wouldn't feel bad about that purchase at all. I've been getting .22LR CCI 100-packs at Cabelas online for about $8 and having them shipped for free to my local store. The CCI stuff is a little better stuff than the bulk packs.

coppertop

Was in the store yesterday picking up some .40 cal ammo and was surprised that .22LR was still in limited supply. The only boxes they had were an off-brand that was lead round nose and overpriced at that.

When asked when they might be getting more .22LR in, I was told they may get a case in every other week and it's gone the first morning on the shelf.

I would have figured by now the inventory issues would have been resolved.

boone123

I got a flyer in the mail the other day for some Gun Fair & Sale from some where over in MN. Two day deal 19 and 20 of April. Outside with vendors.
Their ad says, special ammo allocations.  1000s of cases of hard to get ammo. Then it says , limited supply- new deliveries each day. Shows picture of 22 ammo.
Then come up how they are going to make a profit. $10.00 to park.
I guess my problem is how can they get 22s  when a lot of the country can't?        What does a rat smell like?
