No love for the poor Wasp

I have been reading all I can about NAA while trying to get hold of the model I want. But I noticed there isn't a lot of love for the Wasp. It's much more available then the Pug or Sidewinder thats for sure. Is there any reason people are not buying the Wasp? It looks like a neat little gun with the laser etching.

Speaking just for myself, I do not care for the skeletonized hammer on the Wasp. Other than cosmetics, it is the same gun as the Magnum Mini, which I do like. I have no clue how sales are for the Wasp. What makes you think that people are not buying it?

The only reason I asked is because my LGS that I usually buy my guns from has 15 in stock. One Pug, no Sidewinders, and just a couple Black Widows with AS no fixed. Two of the others within driving distance both have plenty in stock. This has been an in stock item at anytime I check any of their inventory. Just seems either there are plenty in production or they are not that popular. Even Youtube only has a few reviews. Maybe it is just the hammer who knows. I think the hammer and the etching make it really unique.

I have absolutely no regrets buying my Wasp. I like the 1-5/8" barrel length, I'm pretty sure I could not live with the half moon front sight, no problems with the hammer, I shoot it more accurately than my S&W 640 38spl. The only bad side is not limited to the Wasp- I can't get ammo. I did put CVang grips on it and like them. If somehow I lost it or something happened to it I would buy another as soon as I could put my hands on one. I don't want 2, but I don't want another mini either. If the hammer broke I'd get another just like it, if it broke again I'd think about a solid one, but that front sight has me, it works (for me).

So.... I'm the only one? No one else has love for the Wasp? That's ok, I've always beaten to a different drum. I might consider a second Wasp if it was somebody else's reject at the right price....

I have two pugs with wasp hammers and barrels...best of both worlds! :o

I'm more of a Black Widow/Pug/Minimaster fan. It's like the "evil opposite" of the Wasp.  ;)

I have never had the oppertunity to purchase one. I like the look and would not hesitate.

I like the vented barrel and skeleton hammer looks.

Mine is the only one I've seen in person, glad I snagged it while I could! I carry it every day. When I see other minis I have no envy at all. I made the right choice (for me) for once.

Some of you folks don't have it bad at all.

I get envy every time I see a mini.
Even if I already have a pair or 3 or 4 of that model.
I got it bad.

That does sound bad, Uncle Lee. But at least it just Minis that do that to you, right? I imagine that if you saw any other revolver with a 9.5" barrel, you would pass it by with a sneer of cold contempt!

I went to my LGS and picked up the Pug Magnum I ordered today that came in. They had a Wasp in the showcase and I had a chance to look at it. The hammer and the etching are really unique. They also had a Black Widow and that one really felt nice in my hand with the large grip. Lucky for me that before I went there I had confinced myself that I would not buy another one without the conversion cylinder, and neither had one. :'(  Now once I familiarize myself with the safety notch on my Pug I'll be taking it to the range next week so see how it shoots. Then maybe Vangs, holsters, and who knows maybe another NAA on the horizon. ;D

I happen to like the uniqueness of the Wasp. It is the only one with a true vented ribbed barrel, the only one with the cylinder pin that matches the cylinder, no other mini cylinder has stripes AROUND it, the first mini to have a bead front sight (not counting the Earl clan), it has it's own unique set of grips, and of course the skeleton hammer. What's not to like? How long have I had one? My daily carry Wasp is #0069.

i have looked at the wasp for a while now,,, don't know if its true,,,however ive herd some say skeletonized hammer is somewhat light,,,and has caused some lite strikes on rounds?????does anyone happen to know about this?????could one buy the wasp and return to naa and have a reg hammer. installed,,,,i have a reg. hammer on my 1 and 5/8 inch mag. and lr. mini and so far it works fine,,,have shot hornady crit. deffence 22 mag. and 22 lr stringers,, also some cheaper stuff in both mag. and lr. ,,,,my hornady 22 mag. crit defn. is getting low so i only carry it,,, and practice with 22 lr and cheap mag. when i can find it..i have a good supply of 22 lr. but mag. is getting low.......

NOTL21

I have had zero problems with the wasp triggers on two minis.

grayelky

When the Wasp came out, there were several that immediately jumped on the fragile Skelton hammer. To my knowledge, there have been 3 actual reports on this forum about broken hammers. One of those was one of my customers, and he was less than forthright with me. NAA has repairer them, no questions, no problems. My serial number is 69, so it was likely one of the earlier ones. I have never had a light strike nor misfire of any kind. In my humble opinion, this is one of those items some people want to have a problem, so they help create a myth. In fairness, I have no clue how many may have shown up at the factory that we know nothing about, but if there was a big problem, I am sure more than 3 would have found their way to this forum.

To answer your other question, if you have a problem and need to send a Wasp back, NAA will install a "regular" hammer at your request. I like the hammer, in part because it is different. There was someone who posted on here about having a Pug with a "stripped" cylinder and skeleton hammer.

In my post above, I neglected to mention the Wasp is also the only mini to have all of the recessed surfaces blacked out. A nice contrasting touch.

I just picked up a pug with WASP Embelishments, so it has the etched cyliner and skeletonized hammer.  In love with this thing...will never trade or sell!

Dang it!  They are so hard to find now I'm tempted to get a second one.  It would be a safe queen and don't know if worth the investment...Dang it!
