I must say that I've never liked the look of the Sidewinder....but the 4" model is another story. I REALLY like it. Can't wait to get one!

I really like the looks of the original sidewinder-  (mine has boot grips installed, too).  Don't know about the 4" one yet.  My initial reaction is that, for the MSRP and the projected street price, I think I'll pass.  (But I've been wrong before....)

Also, and just my opinion, I think we've seen the last "Early Bird" offering.

I think the 4" SW's look really good with the boot grips on them. Not so good with the bird's head grips..................... kind of reminds me of one of the old S&W Police Specials with the longer barrels like the police used to carry in the 30's.

An excerpt from Sandy's post:

"You'll also find that we've increased the price on our conversion units for both the 2" and 4" models (orders we're presently holding from our distributor partners will be filled at the prior price)."

Am I to understand that there is a TWO INCH Sidewinder???  That's what I'd really like!  My 1-1/8" barrel is ideal for concealment, but a model with nearly twice as much barrel would likely substantially improve both accuracy and extraction of energy from magnum rounds.

To me, two or three inches would look better esthetically. (on a gun, not on a...well...you know!)

MR_22

Wahoo! Can't wait to get mine! A 2-inch Sidewinder also sounds very cool. :)

Sandy

My bad; of course the existing model includes a 1" barrel.

But a 2.5" barrel?  Why not?  Stay tuned.

Not trying to start anything here but I was like you Michael. I always hated the "square" nose behind the cylinder on the Sidewinders. Unlike most of you here, it's just UGLY! I know they had to make it that way to have the cylinder swing out.

However, unlike you, I think this 4" barreled version is still ugly and even uglier! I wanted so bad to get this 4" version but after seeing these pictures, I think the shorter barrel versions now look GOOD!

I live in liberal Calf. and the shorter Sidewinders are off limits. If I could buy one, I would go with one of the shorter versions.

I had every intention to buy one of these but after seeing these pictures, I bought a 4" Mini Master with both .22LR/.22 Mag cylinders which I think is way more beautiful and even has adjustable sights!  :)  Just IMHO!

The new Side Winder looks like a humdinger!  I'm going to have to start rolling up the change in the big jug.  Thanks NAA for another sweet revolver.

J,   my thinking exactly.  I like the 2 inch.

OV-1D

If only they made the cylinder to tilt away from the frame with a slight pivot to expel and receive cartridges a whole lot faster and easier it would have been a real marvel . I realize more hands on costs more but then again its a shame , its almost an incomplete gun project . Just my thoughts on it . ??? ???

I like the new 4" and will like a 2.5" even better. I do not get here often and I almost always add to my wish list. Thanks Sandy for new products.

gebe,
Lighten up.  Lee was just doing as requested and if that mild slam hurt your feeling you have to toughen up a bit.
I like rice and I like steak but, like you, think the Sidewinder is far less than an attractive firearm, butt ugly comes to mind.
Sometimes when playing in the sandbox with the other kids you get a bit of sand in the eye. Get over it.

WOW !!!!!!!!!
He asked to get slammed (before he edited it).
All I did was as he wanted....
That took me at least 15 minutes to think up.
That was in humor because he asked someone to do it...

I will not apologize for doing what he wanted even though I feel bad over it.
What if Chopprs was still here and REALLY slammed him.

I AM getting a PAIR of 4" Sidewinders.
Not cause they are cute or ugly.
CAUSE I want them...

I DO think the Mini Master is a better looking mini. That is why I have 4 of them. Two in Mag/LR and two in .17 HMR......
I will have only two 4" Sidewinders.

Actually, when I first saw the unique profile of the Sidewinder frame, I thought it was not very ... aesthetic. But after getting used to it I have changed my opinion and now I am quite fond of it. I think that the four inch Sidewinder looks even better, pretty darn good, in fact. However, I think I have figured out a way to improve on it!

grayelky

Now that we have chewed up the 4" SW, and discovered most either love it or hate, let's change gears. If the 4" SW proves to be a financial success, and the market seems willing to pay more for what they want than management anticipated, will management re-visit the re-introduction of the Breaktop? If so, maybe a serial number change, such as putting the letters at the end, instead of the beginning so as to differentiate from the originals. Thoughts?

I'm all for the breaktop being reintroduced. Was going to buy one after the early birds.

I did not see a price for the conversion model. If it is going to be a lot higher, then I wish a LR only model would be offered. I bet I am not the only one who almost always plinks with LR, and I bet not many folks will carry the four incher for self defense.

OV-1D

Myself , that's just another opinion is any other 22 other than shorts , longs and long rifles are a waste of good gun powder, with the magnums only being good for longer distance rifle shooting in which they were intended . Magnum pistols to me are just silly novelties with little to no use as a cartridge but again that's just me .  :) :)

Dinadan please remove that sadistic picture up there . ;) ;)

Sandy     sell me two of the two inch sidewinders  and I'll buy my old friend Orrin on for old time's sake.

scbuxton

Here's some convoluted logic for you.
Since I screwed myself out of buying a breaktop by passing on the early bird  (you know, I'll just wait until the  $500 drops down to  $400 or so, then pick one up from Bud's )  I  made up for that by ordering two early bird sidewinders (you know, so when the price goes up after a short production run like the Ranger, I'll have an extra that I can trade for a breaktop, as they'll both be worth their weight in gold, right?)  So I  guess I'll just have to buy a couple of these four inch Sidewinders so that when they are as scarce as Buntlines, I'll be able to trade them for a breaktop..., or maybe for a brick or two of 22's. 8)
Maybe it'd be cheaper just to pay Uncle Lee's ransom on one of his Rangers. ;D ;D ;D

cfsharry

grayelky,
Do you know if anyone has asked Sandy directly as to the price point needed to reintroduce a Ranger variant?  As discussed a manual rather than an automatic extractor would be acceptable. Also, LR would be adequate for this kid but would really like to see magnum frame shortened to the LR cylinder.

Back when the original announcement came out, I am confident the question was asked. I am claiming "old age" as to if it ever got answered. I do not think it did, but I could be wrong. I got the feeling the cost to make was going to force a selling price of roughly $500, BUT let me emphasize that is strictly an impression. SANDY AT NO POINT SAID, NOR HINTED, AT THAT NUMBER!!! I could be way off base.

I suspect if a price point was arrived at and an announcement made about a limited run of the Breaktop, the ones not scooped up by members of this forum would be inhaled by the distributors who buy from NAA and sell to gun shops, like Acworth Guns. (Okay, sorry for the shameless plug!) The problem would be making enough stock to keep from making several distributors mad because they could not get any, or as many as they would like to have.

Them and all the rest of my collection.
