  But Harry it's so less messy that way .  ;) ;) ;) No fingerprints anywhere neither . ;) ;) ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

cfsharry

Like that, "no fingerprints".

Didn't I read that over 90% of confrontations end with just showing a gun?  A percentage that tends to make stopping power less relevant than most of us may think?

38sp

Cfsharry ,  I understand that a 22 is not a warfighting round, and yes I have " killed critters " with guns. I am simply saying that ANY pistol is not optimal for self defence if there is a choice in the matter. The link that I posted shows that for the most part all handgun rounds have a similar stopping rate. They all suck !  Some pistols are simply more convenient to carry which is why people carry them when they would not carry otherwise. In my opinion, having the handgun when needed is far more important than caliber.

Glenn,

That's a fine looking rife; who did the stock for you or did you do it?

The Remington 788 with its rear locking lugs is in my opinion one of the finest rifles Remington ever made. I have two in the walnut stocked versions; the later ones were beach. My calibers are .222 Remington and 30-30.

I'm looking for one with a walnut stock chambered in 44 Magnum. It would make a dandy short range (100 yard) deer rifle to companion my 30-30 the same.

The actions are-were sought after bench-rest shooters for their rear locking lug actions. Remington dropped the 788 when they brought out the 700 ADL and BDL because it was out shooting their flagship Rifle.

I much prefer the older Remington 720's and 722's for their plain and clean lines.

45flint,
That is why nine times out of ten I carry just an Airsoft gun and a Pocket Lite .380 or a Solo 9mm only the other one.

I thought it was a pretty good review, he seemed a bit overly focused on the general safety of the firearm. But overall I enjoyed it.

bleak_window

Let's face it, the minis require a different approach and mindset.  They require a certain investment in time and practice in order to load them safely and shoot them well.

38sp

I agree. You should not just throw one in your pocket and think that you are proficient with one. They are a slightly different beast. Well, a tiny beast ! ;)

scbuxton

I agree too. You should throw one in your pocket and KNOW that you are proficient with it. I am, how about you?
Time to stir the pot.
This thread is entertaining me to say the least. I get a kick out of how some Internet experts always know what's best for everyone else. Looks to me like we ought to be able to trust other grown folks judgment as for what's best for them to carry.  Me, I learned here that I'm only "partly" armed.
I bet I could shoot the eyes out of a bad guy if I had to with my little bitty gun and my little bitty boolits. >:(

Finally your starting to think logically!

These post have been entertaining but I find it hard to believe that so many here have given Hickok at free pass here.  He is a "professional" reviewing a product and he not only demonstrates he doesn't know this gun he actually shows us the wrong way to load it.  Certainly a more dangerous way.   Below is the manual for his gun it tells the proper way to load this pistol is to put it into half cock.  Something he never mentions and ignores leaving us to look as he fumbles with a live cylinder putting it into the gun.  Sorry there is absolutely no excuse for this and to me the Utube should be pulled.  Never reading the manual for a gun you are reviewing is pretty much inexcusable.

I agree.. Not one of his best reviews. I'm only giving him the free pass since so many of his other reviews were really good.  :)

I am also confident with my black widow. I carry it daily. I have carried many types and sizes of pistols and do not feel that for defensive carry that it is inadequate. I once shot an IDPA BUG gun match with it. I placed a little above half way in the overall standings shooting against revolvers and semis. It was 5 shot strings with reloads off the clock.
I think that hickok was not really interested in doing this review and did not do it with any enthusiasm at all. And I do not say that because I like NAA firearms.

scbuxton

38sp I agree with you in that Hickok seemed indifferent at best to the mini. The one thing that I saw was his obvious pleasure as he shot the little gun. He shot it fairly well while making hits at will, smiling like any other successful gun nut while shooting well, but still didn't have much good to say about the little guns. Kinda predjudiced, I  say.  I think maybe he's got a little  boolsquirter in him? ;D

My brother has a 788 in .308 .... his had a tiger maple stock under the factory shoe polish.   He had me fiddle with his stock & I fell in love with the action.  I looked long & hard for a 6mm ... but mine is just plane maple or beach.   I did all the work on the wood except for the little mountain/pine tree scene imbedded in the forearm.  Old friend of mine did that for me .. per my drawing. I had found a pair of jumping Buck Hat-pins & had the bucks jumping the stream in the carving ... then filled the whole area back up to level/smooth with polyurethane.  I've taken a few hundred chucks & several long distance deer with it.
The 788 / 6mm magazines are a *** to find.

I've said it before, pants on, guns on & extra ammo. My wife grouped grapefruit sized at 12' first time on a mini w/floppy, I consistently shoot 50% on golf balls at 15-20'. I have started ALWAYS carrying a glock 26, even at home since ISIS has started being a little more aggressive. Because the ability to quickly engage at greater distances might become necessary. I used to practice with my "Cowboy Guns" at 100 yds 5 gal bucket accurate.  a buddy can hit steel plates at 200yds with his 40 cal. Time for me to sharpen the skills.
The NAA fills a VERY important niche and the 22 has consistently killed 400-800 pound gators with one shot.

Glenn,
Again, nice work on that stock.  Would enjoy shooting it.
Serious question; I've never eaten woodchuck but have been told they are pretty good.  Do you eat them and if so how are they prepared?
45flint,
Other problem with that 90% rule is that the bad guy has to see the gun.  Sometimes difficult with a Minni.

True makes me want the laser grip.

Lasers make great wake up calls , I think they are wonderful for making your guns presents known .Just make sure the batteries are always good and of course don't depend on them . ;)

To me many of these posts are a diversion from what should be the issue of a clear demonstration of a improper potentially unsafe way to load a mini on a utube many will watch and assume he knows what he is doing.

Thanks Harry.
Chuck/Groundhog/Whistlepig are pretty good when they are young & tender.  Fried is good after a saltwater soak.  Roast with potatos & carrots is good too.
If you want to eat an old one ... throw an old leather boot in the pot with it .. let simmer for 5 hrs ... then throw away the groundhog & eat the boot.

Oh Yes...........
I haven't eaten one since about 1990.
Growing up we ate them from the time they came out until they went back to sleep......
If it is an old one, cut it up, boil until tender, let cool, roll in flour, fry a good crust on the pieces.
Or seal it in a roaster and bake until tender.

In the fall when they are ready to go to bed they are covered with fat.
That fat can be rendered just like pig fat and makes good lard. We used a lot of that lard....

You got me laughing so hard on that one I just about had tears running down my leg again, ;D  you get a big thumbs up on that one.
Had to show my wife your recipe, and now she laughing too. ;D

Well, this turned out to be a most interesting thread.
I think for the first time owner of a mini, loading it could be extremely intimidating. Hickok himself seem very intimidated by the gun, which I did found a little strange. And stranger yet was how well he shot it! I only wish I could shoot mine that well.
I still don't think he was fair to either the mini or to NAA and that was the only point I was trying to make. A far as I'm concerned it was his poorest review ever....  :'(
