I was getting tired of the mindless bantering. I questioned why there wasn't much moderation here, but I realized this forum doesn't get that many visitors.

349 dollar MSRP

I'm in! Especially when the conversion cylinders are available.

bleak_window

$349 is a very reasonable price and they should sell a bunch of them.

My wife bought a 638 for valentines for less but, I will bite at that price...BTW, Theysayimnotme, I punched the cards and ran the tape drives as a "tape ape" too!

I'm guessing that the forum owner ASSUMED that "Adults" would be using this message board ... & not 5th graders that require a moderating figure to guide them.

You see how that went .. huh ?

If not for the "good guys", I would have shut the door long ago. I've never been directly confronted, although, I have learned that some are never wrong except for that ONE time that they were mistaken. I'm bigger than to point a finger in any direction. I just stick to the topic as best I can and skim over all the BS because there IS a lot of useful information and good conversations (sans the tards who sit at the back of the class room.)

This fits the persona of a select few and although I AM stooping a little by posting it, I couldn't resist a little comic relief.

(removed pic because it really was in bad taste)

I just want a Sidewinder. Actually, I want two, one for myself and one for my brother.

heyjoe

very good Zippovarga.

i am wondering if speed strips would be a bad idea to use on the sidewinder. The yolk (yoke) may not stand up well to their use. you might put a bend in the yolk (yoke) or strip the screw securing it to the frame.

I've seen moon clips made and cylinders modified to accept the moon clips. I wonder if this would be a viable thing to do or if it would in any way compromise the integrity of the sidewinder. Speed loader would be nice and I would think it would put little to no stress on the yolk (yoke) or screw if you let the rounds "drop" into the cylinder.

heyjoe

it would have to be an hks type speedloader in that case rather than a safariland type which would again put stress on the small yolk (yoke) and screw.

5 star firearms makes some nice speedloaders

they currently make 6 and 7 shot models for 22 magnum, maybe they could be persuaded to make a 5 shot model for the sidewinder.

I wonder just what the tolerances are when using eggs as a hinge point?

Maybe tempering and a longer boil would provide the durability for speedloader use.

heyjoe

can you flesh out that observation a little Scout to aid in understanding what you are getting at?

he is poking at you and Zippo about spelling the yoke of the gun as the yolk of an egg.

"adding a set of XS sights like the Pug (or at least a set of fixed BW sights)"

I like the little bead sight a lot more than the BW fixed. I have both.

   +1 to the XS.

And I like the fluted cylinder.

I'm in (after things have settled out a bit).

chopprs

I like the bead sight far better than the traditional blade front sight and I am going to bet that my opinion is prevelant here and that is why it is on the new gun.

Obviously the fluted cylinder costs more to produce than a bull cylinder but we have a gun that has to have an aesthetic appeal to sell and in my opinion the bull cylinder would not look right on this gun...BUT if it were to evolve to a BW style it just may be a welcomed variance.....

pogo

Yeah, right, good night.

Louie and Joe

Sorry I couldn't get back to you.

You and the others on this board are a lot of fun to read & I will enjoy Chiming in now and then if y'all don't mind.

I am really excited about the Sidewinder/Republican. I'll add a vote for XS / dovetailed sights and for a .32 or. 32NAA.

heyjoe

chime away. that was pretty funny. its good to laugh at yourself and not take yourself too seriously.

i dont think we will see a 32 for a while unfortunately.

I am looking forward to the early bird on the sidewinder myself. Even better i found someone around here who will do the transfer for $20,  which is really exceptional for here.

The more the merrier in my opinion.  Chime away!

One day of the NRA Convention is now over. I should have expected that someone would have posted by now that they had held the Sidewinder.

go to Sandy and the sidewinder thread 1943 was there

I think the fluted cylinder helps keep the weight down and puts less stress on the crane/yoke/yolk.

ajr

There have been a few mentions of speed loaders, but it doesn't look like the cylinder can swing out far enough and give enough clearance to make one functional on a gun this small, especially with some of the wider grips.

Of course that might just be the way it looks in pictures (especially the last one). It might look totally different in person.

"I think the fluted cylinder helps keep the weight down and puts less stress on the crane/yoke/yolk."

I think you'll find the main concern on that strain will be handing your SideWinder to someone with the cylinder out (normal safe way) and watch them immediately do the Hollywood wrist flip... snapping the cylinder into the frame. I've already been down that road last year with my Ranger. :o( Too late to stop it once in motion.

Comment on the speedloader: Grips probably would interfere with a round speedloader (HKS). Smith & Wesson resolved that by "scooping" out the top of their target grips. Straight QuickStrips should not be a problem.

I have made speed loaders that work with the mini and actually speed things up and are fun.   Jim

I still like the idea of a non-fluted cylinder.

How would one get on a list to receive one of the first Sidewinders?  With the understanding that it would be sent to a dealer of our choice (and one that is acceptable to NAA)?  Deposit? Is there a more definitive time line on their release?

louiethelump

Has not been announced yet.  Watch this forum and you will be right there

I'm a go for an early bird purchase, and I'll take one in either 22lr or 22mag. I would like to see at least a 2" barrel length in the initial early bird offering.
