I have a brand new 1-1/8 22 magnum conversion and yesterday when I fired the first shot the cylinder froze. After working the trigger and hammer for a bit it unstuck and I fired again...same thing cylinder stuck. I took it out and put .22 lr cylinder in and it fired just fine. Anyone know what is causing this?

So I lubed the front and back of the cylinder and it fired ok 2 times and stuck. Pretty sure it is the ammo causing it. Gun shoots very accurately and fun with .22 LR but the Chechen ammo won't work in the magnum cylinder. Waiting on CCI MaxiMags to arrive. Talked with Sue Sheetz in customer service (nice and knowledgeable) and she said foreign ammo is a problem with some. Will update when I know more.

The fact no one has responded to this question indicates no one reading this forum has encountered this problem. I can verify I have never encountered it, with any revolver. For the record, I have been shooting revolvers for roughly 44 years. My first instinct is to wonder about lubrication, but that went out the window when you swapped cylinders and the gun functioned correctly. I would examine the cylinder for any burrs, then check to see if I could determine that it is square to its axis. Likely, you will end up calling NAA and asking for customer service. I suspect it will go back for evaluation and "doctoring". Let us know how it works out.

I also have been shooting revolvers since I was 25 and I am 65 now and haven't had this problem either. When I talked to Sue at NAA she said the guns they make have had problems with foreign ammo before so I ordered some CCI. If it still does it I will send it back. Thank you for your comments. They are nice folks and respond quickly to issues.

I did have a problem like that many years ago, I found that the detente ball on the cylinder pin wasn't catching properly, replaced the cylinder pin, and kept the ball lubricated, and it worked great.

I have had revolvers, non NAAs that have locked up with some ammo in 22s.  Have a 317 Smith that locks up when I shoot Federal Match 22s. Poofs the back of the shell  casing out against the gun frame in the cylinder window.  Shoots regular Federals and other ammo just fine.

I had it on my PUG the very first magnum round I fired. It took a little effort to get the cylinder out but that was the first and last time it has ever happened.  Not sure what was hung up; I assume some unburned powder maybe. A quick wipe down and reload and that was the last of it.

I received the CCI .22 magnum and fired several rounds through my pistol with not any hint of sticking. Sue was right on the money, don't shoot anything but American made ammunition in a NAA revolver.

Corriecjc,

Yees,
I agree with you, stick with the USA made stuff. The only exception may be the Aguila ammo from Mexico. A lot of folks don't know this but it is actually a Remington company.

Glad all worked out OK with your new gun.
