Reading back a few years on the CCH  guns there was a thread about the CCH not holding up well. Someone also mentioned it look like the BJ Talo's. The Talo's were DLC. Mine is showing signs of wear on the very front of the barrel, not much but the very edges of the front of the barrel show some wear. The rest of the gun is still looking good and it is my EDC. Altho I don't shoot it a lot its in and out of the holster a lot  as people like to see it ;D. I wonder how the CCH compares to the DLC ???

Uncle_Lee

Well I guess that 66 Corvette will soon be down to around $15,000.00.
Well they are not as good as the new ones. Don't hold up as well. Ain't as fast.
Wonder why they cost so much.
I recon it is because people want them enough to pay an outrageous price.

Then there is the 1976 Cadillac convertibles that were represented as the last American converibles to be made. They were covered in the Wall Street Journal, and some people were paying $75k for them. Well as it turned out they were not the last convertibles, and prices dropped way down. The PT Cruiser when it came out was selling for $4K over  retail invoice. You can buy one now very cheap. Not bad little cars. I bought a Ruger Bearcat for $60. in 1971. They stopped production, and the price went way up. They came out with them again and the price settled way down. I didn't care. It is one of the most fun guns I ever owned. The list goes on. You pays your money and takes your chances. Who knows ?

ephraim

The Corvette reference is a good one. I have had, sold and worked on a lot of street rods, collecter cars over the years.
The '66 Corvette Stingray nada value is around $106K. I saw one listed with 4 speed(very desirable) and excellent shape for $75K.The list price of a 2016 Corvette is from $60k to $85k, so even if you use the nada value, the average '66 is worth around 20% more than a new one. If the orginal Ranger price settles at $1k it is still 50% increase. More than the '66 Corvette. Of course there are the '66 Corvettes that have the rare power trains, colors, etc, and they may bring many times the average, or the sky is the limit.  These would be very limited production, say 5 or less exist. These cars are never driven, and kept in heated/cooled garages, and pass from collector to collecter.

grayelky

Ephraim, I agree with you when you say that "you pays your money and takes your chances. Who knows ?" I am in agreement, also.

I suspect the original Ranger will always command a better price, but, I have been wrong on several occasions before......

ephraim

Grayelky, I think you are right. The original  Ranger will always be worth more. How much more depends on time, chance, and circumstance. (circumstance of the person buying). You are in the business, so you have a better sense of that than most of us.

Uncle_Lee

If I collected Honda Civics and had one of every year they were made except the 2010 model, I would be looking for the 2010 model.
If I looked for a period of time (I don't know how long) and didn't find one because not many were made, the longer I looked the more it would be worth.
If I found one in excellent shape and the price was more than the 2016 model, I would buy it to complete my collection.
That is a collector.

It also comes down to what you want the gun for.  If what you want is a carry gun that reloads faster than a mini it makes sense to shop price.  For example, I carry my minis in rough conditions, so I'm not interested in one that doesn't have the safety notches and I don't care where it was made.  A collector looking for a gun to fill a hole in their collection will hunt longer and pay considerably more for the older gun than for a mini they could run down the gun shop and pick up this afternoon.  Either choice is valid.

heyjoe

I doubt that the current going price of the original Ranger breaktop will hold once the new Rangers are in production, and if they stay in production. NAA's have a limited collectors market compared to colts ,smith and wessons, etc. Right now even with the limited collector market for NAA's the prices are up there for the Ranger because there have been none produced for a few years now. They are nice guns, easier to load and unload than the standard minis,so besides collectors there are also people that want them  to carry and use. Once the new Rangers are on the market, the demand for the original Rangers from those people looking for a gun to use rather than collect will lessen considerably.

I just dont see the demand for the original Rangers supporting the current prices if the only difference between old and new is the latch. I could be wrong however. Right now for example with smith and wessons, the same gun, a baby chief, one with a half penny sight commands up  to $1400 more than the same gun with a ramp site. But again the collectors market for smith and wessons is much larger than for  NAA's.

I hope it does stay up there though because i have two of them...haha

I think the original Ranger will always command a premium price. It has that certain something that makes it desirable.
Most cars when new and shiny, most women when they are young and countless other examples of things and people are desirable for a time.  Once in a while a thing or person comes along that captures your attention and won't let go.  A quality that cannot be quantified or accurately described. That quality which separates science or technology from art. The little Ranger has that quality.
I want one ::)

assume the New Ranger will be better because I do not think NAA is saying okay team lets make this New Ranger less appealing and crapier than the Original Ranger.

Beng old and rare does not necessarily make an item collectible. 1957 Chevrolet 2 door: fair number made (for its time), highly sought after, some command very high price. 1957 Edsel 2 door: relatively few made, not sought after, not high priced, even in excellent condition. 1957 (year my wife was born!): Only one ever made, EXTREMELY rare, but, fortunately for me, not sought after. Highly desirable, extremely expensive, some times high maintenance. Did I mention I carry a gun?!

Mr banana guy,
I think you are missing Lee's point. There is a difference between a guy who buys guns because he likes guns and in the process builds up a collection of guns and the guy who sets out to build a collection of guns based on a set of criteria he has defined. Whether like Lee who has a fondness for NAA or myself who built a collection of spur trigger pocket revolvers built between 1859-1879. A collector does not just buy guns to use but to complete or try to complete his collection. Price paid not always determined by book value but often by the perceived need to fill a void in collection.
By the by, in my opinion, choosing two Glock's over one Desert Eagle would be a huge mistake.

cfsharry

Nothing we have to agree or disagree about. Was just trying to help you understand a concept which you are apparently unable or unwilling to wrap your mind around.

collection.  noun col·lec·tion \kə-ˈlek-shən\ : the act or process of getting things from different places and bringing them together. : a group of interesting or beautiful objects brought together in order to show or study them or as a hobby.

Post Surgery(see previous posts for details) a third(I Think) of my gun collection was liquidated & converted into silver bars (different collection) to make it easier for my wife to convert to cash if I take a dramatic unexpected downturn.

I think the Breaktop/Ranger will settle out between $800 and $1000. I may be right, may be wrong, just have to wait and see.

Would a stamp collector use a "British Guiana 1-cent Magenta Stamp (1856)" ($240,000.00) to mail in the monthly electric bill?

I don't have a lot of money.
I was a factory worker.
I just saved my money for retirement while I was working just so I could buy what I wanted when I retired.
I bought a new Toyota pickup truck in 1987 and am still driving it.......(well not right now. I am in front of the computer typing and drinking coffee) (thought I should make that clear before someone asked about it)

i was very pleasantly surprised to see the ranger going back into production. i have to think that the continued pent up demand for the original rangers were no small part in that. if the new ranger is successful and if it stays in production, i think you are correct in your estimate of where the value of the original ranger will settle. of course we could both be wrong....haha

same with me Uncle Lee. I grew up poor and worked and saved as an adult because i never wanted to be poor again. People have varied wants and desires. There is nothing wrong with collecting and there is nothing wrong with just buying a gun you just want to shoot. We earned our money, we get to do with it what we want.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

Bigbird48

I'm the same Uncle Lee, grew up in a small town in NH worked construction summers and factory winters, wasn't able to save a whole doing it that way, when I turned 47 I decide I would have to stay in the factory if I wanted anything at all for retirement. I figured I'd work to 65 and with the companies 401 k and there match after 18 years I'd be ok. Unfortunately my health took a turn for the worst and I had to retire at 58 and the stock market crash took almost everything I'd been able to save. So now its SS Disability which barley pays the bills. I was able to buy a Laser engraver and that helps a little with income but I do mostly stuff for Veterans and I give it to them. The stuff I do manage to sell mostly goes back into material to engrave for Veterans and an Occasional Mini ;D

cfsharry

Mr banana guy,
The really strange thing is that reading through this thread I don't see where anyone told you what you have to like or spend your hard earned dollars on.
I did try, in a respectful fashion, to clarify for you what Lee was talking about and somehow that offended you. I will try in the future to remember you are a sensitive guy and respond accordingly.
PC comes to the NAA forum so that the easily offended are not.

NAA007, what branch of the service are you in? I'm an old Leatherneck like big bird . Good job with the 38 yr old and retirement,  that'll make your life easier in years to come.
Seems like everyone is ready for a fight these days, I know I am.  I just have to keep reminding myself that we are the good guys, and together we can whoop ass on whatever comes along. It is frustrating to walk around mad at the intangible bad guys all of the time.  The day will come when there will be more bg's around  than we can shake a stick at. Then we can fight.
In the  meantime, I got  mini in my pocket just in case.

The Desert Eagle is a great idea. A crew served handgun. Okay why doesn't the green work?

Don't own the origional Ranger. Never did. Bad assumption on your part.
Also hate to be the one to point out that just as you are entitled to your opinion on the Glock's, I am entitled to mine. Neither one of has to be right or wrong. It is just our own personal opinion.
You spend way too much time feeling offended and too little time thinking about what you are reading or writing about.

It is a standard troll trick to post something that elicits a strong response. Then the troll deletes his message so that the response looks crazy. That is why it is best to quote anything you are responding to. Just my opinion. And this forum is the place where I learned that, though the person who taught me no longer posts here.

you order it on the phone from NAA and give them your information and how you are paying, plus tell them who your FFL will be, then have your ffl fax or email a copy of their FFL to NAA

This is the answer to the question I was about to post !

I missed out on the first Ranger but not this time !
When I call it'll be "Shut up and take my money !".
