Underwood's website now has info on their two upcoming offerings with Lehigh Defense's .32 ACP 50 grain Xtreme Cavitator bullet.  This new oddly shaped bullet appears to offer both the good penetration of FMJ's and the larger wound track of JHP's.

Standard pressure https://www.underwoodammo.com/32-acp-50-grain-xtreme-cavitator/
Velocity - 1,000 fps
Energy - 111 FPE
Penetration - 14 inches
OAL - not stated

+P version  https://www.underwoodammo.com/32-acp-p-50-grain-xtreme-cavitator/
Velocity 1,100 fps
Energy - 134 FPE
Penetration - no info given
OAL - not stated

I found no mention of the barrel length used to get these results.

It appears Lehigh has goosed the specs for their ammo by 50 fps and now quote 925 fps.

Velocity - 925 fps, which Lehigh previously said would be from a 2.7" barrel (875 fps from NAA Guardian 2.2" barrel)
Energy - 95 FPE
Penetration in bare gel - 13.5 inches
OAL - .945"

MRC over on the Seecamp forum has done significant handloading experimentation with this bullet and found it performed reliably in his Seecamp when loaded to 960 - 1060 fps with an OAL of .945".  See the details here. http://www.seecamp.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1452905163/88#88

Neither manufacturer is shipping their ammo yet, although the bare bullets can be purchased from Lehigh.

These two Underwood versions seem like they'll have much better terminal ballistic performance than the Lehigh ammo.

Interesting. I've been trying to grab some of this ammo since I got a sample powderless round and a sample bullet at the SHOT Show in Vegas. I really want to try some of it myself. Nobody has any to sell, though.

Mr 22,

Thanks for posting that spec sheet you got from Lehigh at Shot Show.  I can't wait to try the Lehigh ammo and the two Underwood versions in my Guardian and Seecamp.  I'm hopeful they'll provide better terminal performance than current .32 offerings.

But I'd also really like to see some independent penetration tests of these new rounds.

I spoke with Underwood this morning.

The test results on their website were from a Kel-Tec P32 with a 2.7" barrel.

They said their ammo should be available by the end of May.

End of May. Cool, that's close. But it seems date people give are always very optimistic. I want to try some in my Kel-Tec P32 and my Guardian .32.
