Very cool they will have the LR available.   If you are in the pool do you want serial numbers in sequence or two chances for #1?

whitehorse

NAA continues to lead with the Sidewinder's innovations.

The fairness of the "early bird" process is appreciated.

Fold and crumble my order sheet, so it will standout in the lottery box during the drawing.

   Thanks

My book keeper has got to find some money in my account!

I was just making out my order.

The copy of my dealer's FFL that I have has the experation date of 06/01/2012.

Got to go to his shop as soon as he opens up this morning to see what is going on here.

I am also in ... wondering if the conversion cylinder set will take much longer than one with just a .22 mag cylinder?

heyjoe

i saw Sandy's Soapbox on this so early the photo wasnt even up yet.

i like the way it looks with the 1" barrel.

Uncle Lee by the time the different barrels come out you might need another shoe box to keep them in.

I wonder if the holster grip will still fit.

wild bill

Great, here it comes.  I guess a lot of us will be up late Thursday night.  Is Utah on mountain time or pacific time?

cedarview kid

We are definitely in the mountains, Bill! But given the lottery, I guess it won't really matter.

I'm in for 2 with the conversion. Now I gotta figure out what has to go to pay for 'em. Bye bye .17 Mach 2, I'm afraid! I wonder if I'll ever be back up to 37 NAA firearms again? I'm still over 30 now and sacrificing other NAA's to get these isn't going to help with that.

(And I get to pay Utah sales tax, yay.)

adsinger

I dunno. Must be me but the Sidewinder looks a little ungainly compared to the Pug. The cylinder area is elongated and in profile the barrel lacks the massive look of the Pug. Not that in use the SW is not superior but esthetically not so nice. I need to think about it a bit before signing up. Probably would have a better balanced look with the 4" barrel.

   alan.

45flint

Interesting I think just the opposite, given its squared front out of necessity I think the longer the barrel the odder it will look?   Look at the Earl as an example body flows up to longer barrel.  Give me the 1".   And I am the guy that loves the longer barrel designs.   Where are the photo shop guys when you need them?

wild bill

Will any of the early bird edition SW's ever get fired?  Hope it gets into the mass production stage (unlike the breaktop).

tranquilo

Kenny, would you be able to post some photos of the Sidewinder?  (The drawing in this month's Soapbox is good but actual photos would be better). Thanks!

heyjoe

Collector i want to hear that you fired both of your early birds this time.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

backporch22

GLAD I HAVE A COUPLE DAYS TO THINK ABOUT IT.  428.00 PLUS TRANSFER FEE PUTS IT IN J FRAME MONEY.  BUT ONE WOULD BE NICE.

coopercdrkey

I am in, eventually, but the Sidewinder will be a replacement for my Black Widow, and therefore will await a longer barrel choice.

Have fun, Early Birds!  I enjoyed reading your posts as you awaited the release of your BT's.  I'm sure the Sidewinder will be as exciting.

You folks did notice there will be a special serial number for the early bird SW, didn't you? Talk about "potential" collector interest. With that thought in mind, maybe I will get the LR conversion on both.

As to the full production, I believe Sandy has already committed to that.

louiethelump

I don't FEEL excited.

I fail to see where the new gun will do ONE SINGLE THING that a standard mini will not do.

(that is of course other than the cylinder swinging out.  But what does that really DO for me?)

If it held more rounds than before, had a better grip than before, was chambered for a center fire cartridge, I would be all over it.

   Excitement????

   Ehhh......  Not so much.....

   But that is just me.

I agree with everything Louie said. In addition, to my eyes anyway, it is not an attractive piece. I had really hoped they were going to improve the yoke and crane assembly to make that area flow better with the whole.

How about a break top with a hand rather than an automatic ejector. Is that doable at a profitable and marketable pricepoint.

45flint

I like the idea of the special serial numbers but do they really make a difference down the road to a collector when the same model is readily available at a retail gun dealer?  Steve

bud

Louie,

I totally agree with you, but didn't want to say it and sound negative, or burst someone's bubble.

I think it will be a great mini, but just not enough difference unless someone is collection North American Arms hand guns.

22man

I will probably wait for the 2.5" version, thanks for the offer Sandy/NAA.

chopprs

.....I kinda feel the same way. I will be able to buy one in six months for $299 or even a used one in a year for $225! The serial number really doesn't matter to me and by the time I pay my FFL fee and tax the gun will cost me $460, too much for a Mini me thinx...

mojavesidecar

Can subjects of the state of kalifornia participate in this early bird program?

45flint

You guys are starting to sound just like people did when the Ranger came out!   Too much money!!!  What does it do for me that my old gun doesn't !!!!   We all know how that worked out.    Not that this gun will not go into production and double in price  but it is a winner.   Steve

Well, I got into the BT as soon as I saw it. It was/is a very elegant design and a beautiful tool room execution. Unfortunately I don't see that in the Sidewinder.

After I had the BT and realized its collectability and how much I enjoyed simply owning it, I bought a Pug for the original carry usage. In the SW I don't see a "need" over and above what the Pug does for me to go early bird. So short of buying it as an investment it doesn't make a ton of sense to me. I buy stuff I really like because as I near 70 there is little need to buy for future financial appreciation.

   Alan,

gtgoldsmith

Several things come to mind regarding the above posts: 1) if one is in a fire fight (hopefully this will not happen) reloading with quite a few parts being held lousily in one hand is not the best scenario – a plus for the swing out cylinder; 2) quickstrips should work well with the swing out cylinder (better than with the removable cylinder as one needs to concentrate on the re-assembly of the current NAA Magnums while not loosing the inserted rounds), 3) I have an unfired 1976 Ruger Colorado Centennial Convertible (22 Mag/22 LR) Single Six with serial number 00041 and it is worth the same as a current production Single Six (so much for the special serial numbers and special run firearms),  4) beauty is in the eye of the beholder – and until one sees the pistol in the flesh that will remain open for conjecture, 5) no one has asked how the cylinders will interchange (a somewhat important operation if you have a convertible and plan to fire the weapon in both calibers), 6) based upon the artist's rendering of the sidewinder it looks as though I may have a couple of pocket holsters that may work well with it - if the grips are interchangeable with other NAA magnums that would be a cost savings as well, and 7) they will probably be in short supply in the beginning so if one does not like the way the pistol operates, looks, etc selling it for a slight profit should not be a problem........(famous last words)

gtgoldsmith

loosely not lousily (well maybe .... one never knows)

buck

I'm a lefty so I'm stoked about the right swing out.

I don't see a difference in the new vs. old pictures.

louiethelump

Well, then you should buy at least TWO!!!!

Welcome to the board.  I see you are at a low round count so I presume  you are new.

If you get into a fire fight armed with ANY 5 shot single action 22 magnum revolver, you REALLY stepped it in, and are probably going to die.  (presuming what I know a "firefight" to be)  If you are planning to using the NAA mini and reloading it for extended "fire fight" purposes, you MAY want to re-assess your thought processes that allowed you to arrive at the conclusion that this was the gun for that.  LOL!

I believe an earlier post said the cylinder will come with a yoke, and the cylinder change will involve removing the screw in the front of the frame holding the existing yoke, removing present cylinder, and replacing with other cylinder and the putting screw back in.

It appears that the guns are being offered here early for board members as a courtesy in order to get low ser numbers, and at retail price.  If you are not concerned with low ser numbers (they are even treating the first ones like a lottery for low numbers) you probably will be able to buy this gun for less through a distributor.  Most guns DO NOT sell at retail.  So your used gun is not that likely to be easy to sell above retail when brand new ones will be offered for less than you paid, and yours is used.

But all that is what makes this hobby so interesting, isn't it?  Each of us choose what we want according to our wishes and wants.  Sometimes it works out and sometimes not.

   Happy gun buying.

PS If you are interested in getting more than the allotted two, let me know and I will get a couple of them and sell them to you at only 15% over what I pay for them.  In advance of course.

You got it, Joe! I'm keeping 'em both!

Frankly, when I go plinking with friends, I don't usually take my minis. Showing others how to pull the pin to reload takes some of the fun out of it--and you get some confused looks over it. I'd be willing to be that the Sidewinder outsells the Pug. I'm really looking forward to getting mine!
