Why didn't you buy a Sidewinder?

If you didn't order at least one Sidewinder on the early bird special - why not?

I did.

Now I have also ordered a pair of CCHs! Good thing the SW will not ship till August!!

I am waiting for the 2 1/2 inch barrel version to come out.

22man

also waiting for the 2.5" version

1.  No incentive to buy at full retail, when they will be available for less.

   2. Don't consider a swing out cylinder to be significant for the purpose of a mini gun.

   3. Barrel is too short for decent ballistics from 22 magnum. (1000 fps+ desired)  Will probably buy one when the longer barrels come out.

   4. It is not chambered in 32acp. (would have bought two)

Agree with Louie's #1 - #3.

I ALSO AGREE WITH LOUIE ON 1 2 3 .

ArmedPatriot

Not really ready to buy a second NAA gun yet.

When I do Id like a 22lr/mag combo.

Well...like....thats exactly what we're going to buy, so only if he sidewinder has that will we be getting one.

RogueTS1

Only bought one. Was planning on buying two; one for me and one for the wife but after hearing how the retail prices will be less over the counter and the wife's thoughts on carry I thought it more prudent to let her wait and save the money and buy her one a few months later.

I must have one while she would not lose any sleep one way or the other.

Seems like new NAA guns often have glitches (loose sights, pins fall out, etc.) so I figured I'd let them work out the bugs and buy one I will not have to return for repair.

Even though I want to end up with a longer barreled version, I ordered one (convertible) on the "Bird in Hand" principal.

After paying well above MSRP for my BT, in retrospect a bargain, I want one of these while they're shipping.

Eventual street pricing is not a given. I'm sure production MSRP/Dealer price will only be established after they have wrung out real world production finances during the Early Bird run.

Louie hits all the nails on the head!

I see no reason why I would need a fast reload on a last ditch gun. It does however make the gun more desirable and reasonable for less cultivated enthusuiasts. I would say that this design may eventually fall to the entire line but I see no incentive for me to by right now at full retail when I can buy a used one in a year for quite a sum less.......it will be used as soon as I shoot it so what is the difference?

45flint

Better to ask how many have regretted buying an early bird special?  Zero probably.

lohman446

I'm with Louie on this - though my judgement is questionable as I made roughly the same judgement on the breaktop.

   I see no advantage.

I don't enjoy target shooting with my mini and shoot enough to stay proficient, little more.  Frankly I find the reloading to be simple enough as it is and the problems overrated.  The sidewinder does not make the mini more functional for anything I do so I passed.

You guys are hopeless, it's just another example of a well machined pistol which is just cool.

zippovarga

Gunpacker.....you mentioned a conversion. The Sidewinder DOES offer a 22lr cylinder along with the 22WMR cylinder. I believe it's $79.00 more.

bleak_window

I passed because I've already got the Black Widow.

The Sidewinder would have no purpose and would just sit on a shelf looking all Sidewindery.

ArmedPatriot

"I see no reason why I would need a fast reload on a last ditch gun. "

   ======================================================

Not to mention the fact that swapping out an entire loaded cylinder is probably just as quick as fumbling around to get single rounds into an empty one.

MY best time half cocking the hammer, pulling the cylinder pin, dropping the cylinder reaching down picking it up and getting the gun back into firing condition is ~4 seconds.

Somehow I dont think Im going to do it much faster with a Sidewinder.

ArmedPatriot

"Gunpacker.....you mentioned a conversion. The Sidewinder DOES offer a 22lr cylinder along with the 22WMR cylinder. I believe it's $79.00 more."

   ===================================================

   Definitely a selling point.

As long as I can get at least the 1-5/8" barrel Id be interested.

Like a couple guys have already said, reloading during a firefight probably isnt going to happen anyway. Plus if I buy another gun I'll be packing 2 of them so its easier just to pull the second gun if I need more shots, not to mention that Ive got my 357 Ruger in my CC holster.

I know lots of guys like to carry a couple clips with lots of extra shots, but I have yet to read about a shootout between a citizen and a felon that lasts more than just a couple shots. Generally when the bad guys realize youre shooting at them they wet themselves and run off into the trees.

I'm thinking cool factor as well. For me it's not a matter of practicality... Reloading, carry size, Mag or LR, pricing, sights, etc. have all been discussed at length.

But for me, NAA's willingness to evolve new design formats is worth the price asked to add this new extractor star based design to go along with my BT.

As far as pricing... Many of us are spoiled by prices we used to see. Ruger Bearcats $34.50 Retail, Winchester 94 $69.95 Retail (in the 60's). Back in '74 I bought a new Colt Gold Cup for $345. Bearcat and Win 94 current pricing have been discussed already. Smith & Wesson revolver pricing has gone through the roof.

American gun manufacturing is paying premium for quality Machinists, CNC Operators, and even more scarce qualified Gunsmiths. Materials cost have likewise escalated over the last few years.

Selling price of a manufactured product is based on established financial models for enduring profitability. Also, small size does not translate into small manufacturing effort. Complexity of design is more of an indicator.

Sorry for the soapbox, but supporting American manufacturing is one of my pet peeves. I retired last Fall as a  Machinist (Manual), and CNC Operator/Programmer. Over the years, I've watched many American labels outsource Machining operations to China and India... including tooling I used for my trade.

Winchester and Browning are now foreign owned and manufactured. Smith & Wesson has had foreign owners, Other American gun makers are offering foreign made models. I'm glad NAA has been able to "Keep it Home" while catering to what is actually a niche market.

You are arguing about the practicality of the smallest swing out 22 revolver probably ever made?   Kind of like arguing the practicality of the Ranger Break-Top one of smallest Break-tops ever made.  You buy it cause it is cool as , that simple, are you kidding me????

louiethelump

45flint:

Don't take such offense.  We are not kidding you.  You bought two right?  Do you want more?  Contact a local NAA board member near you who is not buying their two and arrange to get theirs too.  It can be done.  You can have a dozen or more.

Never take offense just use these guns as grip hangers.

brownstreak44

I didn't get one cause my three minis and my guardian are enough for now.

I would like a pug in the future, but that will be a Xmas present to myself.

peeshootah

I might purchase one when the 2" barrel comes out...

lohman446

45Flint.  I did not judge the "cool" factor to be enough for me to buy it at this time.  If you did thats wonderful.  To each their own

Interesting responses, I was certainly not asking the question to knock the Sidewinder or anyone who ordered one or two - good luck to all who did so, it's a great little revolver. I was merely curious as to who'd fallen to temptation and who had managed to resist it, and why

I don't know whether I should even admit this on the forum but I have reached a point where I have enough guns that I don't have the desire to buy another unless it really appeals to me. I think Louie's points, 1 & 3 in particular about price and barrel length, mirror my feelings. As Bleak Widow states I too felt if I bought a Sidewinder it would just end up sitting in my safe and for me it just isn't quite special enough for that - not quite cool enough IMO. It was quite a marginal decision, part of me wanted one, but then because I wanted the conversion cylinder as well it was a little pricey and then I have a BT that now sits doing nothing since they've become so collectible . . . tough decisions - never say never

I do however think the sidewinder will be successful and will attract many new customers to NAA.

I'm with Louie on #1 and #2.

The convertible swing-out cylinder is nifty and all, but I would've preferred to have seen a DA mini. That would make for a MUCH more practical tool for SD than the current SA versions, and if the price were right I could see it appealing to a much larger market than the Sidewinder. But, that's probably the sticking point: $$$.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my LWS32 for now.

heyjoe

Redhawk im sorry to read that you have currently dropped out of the recently fired breaktop club

i bought a sidewinder. Like you Redhawk i have too many already. i on the other hand like the short barrel and think the swing out cylinder on such a small gun is cool enough.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

gebe

Like some, I just can't warm up to that "square nose" look. If they would have rounded it out more, I'd be interested. Just my humble opinion.

theysayimnotme

I live in the PDRK. I was hoping they would produce at least a small number with the necessary length barrel for Kaliforia. Even then the high cost of getting a recieving dealer could be a barrier. That was what stopped me from getting one of the early Earls.

bud

I would like to see and handle one up close and personal for a finale decision, but until I do I'm just not that excited about one.

coopercdrkey

I think the Sidewinder is a terrific accomplishment for NAA, and will prove to be a popular and profitable addition to the line.

Don't make the assumption that each and every customer of NAA prowls this board.  Quite the opposite, in my opinion.  Look at the names-  they're all the same!  All the time!

If NAA only sold to those of us who post here, they would have folded long ago.

The Sidewinder is another jewel in the NAA crown.  It will attract its own following-  including me, when the longer barrel sizes are announced.
