Why didn't you buy a Sidewinder?

Heyjoe, I could go out and fire it now just to have the most recently fired BT

It certainly seems on the whole the BT caught people's imagination more, although that at the time took a leap of faith for me as I'd only seen the prototype in the flesh, others had nothing to go by. I agree with Bud that I'd like to see one, preferably a 2.5" barelled one, before making a final decision.

I don't think we have even seen a prototype of the Sidewinder, have we?  I don't recall it, and am pretty sure you folks have sent off your orders for a line drawing.

There was a prototype shown but it is not what will be sold, according to what we have been told.

You are correct in the fact that alll that has been offered for sale is a basic, very basic line drawing.

This is why I ordered an "Early Bird Special" It just fits a niche that is needed – I was not able to get a Ranger – did not even hear about it until after the fact – and love small pistols – even own and carried (past tense now that I have an NAA Mini Mag) a few derringers (like the four barrel Sharps .22 LR copy made in Brownsville, TX quite a few years back) – always upset about ejection of the spent and stuck  cartridges – would prefer a better system than using a ramrod on stuck brass -  as one ages ones fingers are not as nimble as they once were, do not like worrying about dropping a cylinder during reloading - hope this will be the answer -  besides doing it this way I may not have to pay sales tax on the pistol that gives me quite a discount from full retail – not sure about the freight charges do not know if NAA is going to absorb that on the early bird special or not – I am not in it to make $$$ - if I do I do – I will laugh all the way to the bank – but if they do not go up in value quickly I will carry it and get my value out of it that way.  I have owned, used or looked at many "limited production or custom" firearms – than sold them when someone offer me more money than I thought they were worth – There have been quite a few of those that "if I only owned them now" – still my life is no better or worse for selling them and here I am still buying more that will eventually be sold -  it is a sickness – but one most of you all have as well and ain't it fun !!!

Dinadan

I think Gtgoldsmight pretty well sums up my reason for ordering a Sidewinder:

it is fun. Expensive fun, admittedly, with the LR cylinder included.  I have a

real bad feeling that money in the bank or in stocks is going to be worth less

in three years than it is now, so why not spend some of it?

millsriver

I ordered one without the conversion cylinder, which can be ordered later if it all works out well. I have never purchased a firearm for any other reason than "I want it!" I can't explain it to myself, much less explain it to someone else.

Just sold a PPK at a gun show last weekend, I shot it for ten years and sold it for more than I paid for it.  Guns are pretty good at holding value.  Diversify your portfolio.

redhawk4

New gun prices certainly seem to keep rising steadily, and it seems even the most common of gun's values can better the rate of inflation. I have several handguns I bought used, but as new, for a reasonable amount less than a new one would have cost, but the new prices have risen so much in the last 3+ years that now they look like real bargains or decent investments. I think one of the stumbling blocks for me on the Sidewinder currently is that there are a couple of other guns I have an eye out for that probably are calling to me a little louder than the Sidewinder. I think the catch is that if you were so rich you could buy every gun you took a shine to, a lot of the fun of ownership would be lost, but for most of us there will always be more guns that we like than we can realistically afford or justify, so as a result there will always be some that we would quite like that we pass up for the ones we really love.

My reasoning for buying 2 is quite simple: I have 2 sons. Will I shoot one of them? Have not given it enough thought yet. Will I carry one? Not likely. My current carry minis are a Black Jack and a Wasp, so, no I don't need one for carry. One of the major factors prompting me to get in on the Early Bird was the special serial number. It is just a way of making these a little more unique, and I like guns that are a little different.

I have 4 carry guns and 2 straight razors. The collection has to be ballanced out before buying another gun!Yep OCD!

Uncle_Lee

I am not buying them to carry.

I am starting on my third shoe box. Filling them up with NAA Minis.

I have another 22LR coming. I think it is lost in the Post Office. I am going to switch dealers. Some one in the Post Office has it in for my dealer. Some times his Priority Mail boxes get "misplaced" for three to five days.

   Ed69,

This is what I carry in "heavy jacket" weather.

As the temp goes up, the number goes down until there is just two minis left in my pockets.

bigest reason im broke now lol . i wonder if the new

SW will get better fps because of the way its made,

wonder if naa will give new fps test at websight,

or like the 1 1/8 22 mag barrel vs the pug 1 ich barrel not post diffence . like they dont show

22 lr fps out of the conversion 22 mag/22 lr .

except for the blackwiddow conversion lr.doesnt matter but would be nice to know .

Two guns I want before the sidewinder.

   Mossberg 590A1

   Ruger SR1911

   Then sidewinder

   AR15

(after these I think I may be done buying guns for a long time)

zippovarga

I am fairly certain you can send your EB sidewinder back to the factory to have the 2 or 4 inch barrel added to your EB if you're wanting both the early bird prefix and the longer barrel. Just food for thought with those wanting to hold out for the longer barrel.

The reason I believe this to be true is I called and asked if I could send in my 22 shorty and have a 1 5/8" installed and they said "no problem!!"

Just more avenues to think about.

stripey

I think the Black Widow (so far) is the pinnacle of the shooting NAAs.  It has the best mix of small size and longer barrel to produce the optimum shooter.

The 2" BW is 30% more powerful (muzzle energy) than the pug and has acheived (documented) muzzle velocities of 1300 FPM.

I don't want a lesser barrel or slower velocity than I already have.  Now if you upgrade the BW to a swing out cylinder and don't take the barrel any longer than 2.5", I'd be interested enough to buy

Stripey, You make an excellent point about the Black Widow.  My wife and I love carrying the Pug but after running both it and a Black Widow through the chrony it really made us think.  Another advantage of the Black Widow is the noise reduction over the Pug - You can tell a big difference even through muffs.

chopprs

I like the loud Pug!

If I get off a shot and happen to not have very good placement he will likely have a change of Depends coming just from the BANG!

He may think he has been shot with a much larger caliber!

An advantage as I see it.......

I hate nit picky people, but dog gone it,

1300 FPM is awful slow for a bullet.

I think it should be more like 78,000 FPM.

1300 FPM is probably enough if the projectile is the proverbial "Ton-o-Bricks"! ;o)

On the other hand, 1350 FPS is enough to hit a 6 foot target at 2,500 yards (1.42 miles)... with iron sights!

Because I didn't want one. (Louie explained the reasons pretty well)

I did buy one, because I wanted it and money is not a problem for me. As long as the cost is below my S.S Check that I receive each month and my wife gives me spending money. She doesn't know that I get S.S. and thinks my income is "0". When I come home with a new gun, I tell her that I won it in a lottery. About one a month is about all I think I can get by with.I'm gonna keep this wife, the next one might not be so understanding. ( or gullible )

Dinadan

Ghost - a good wife (or husband) knows what not to know. I agree that yours

sounds like a keeper. I just tell mine that the new gun is a better investment

than the stuff in my IRA - which is the honest truth, unfortunately!
