Stories / Re: Snakes and Me

My last encounter with a snake was a large water moccasin that was attempting to enter the dog pen out back.  I had my 22 TCM chamber RIA 1911 and I shot it right in the middle of its coil and it essentially exploded showering the area with chunky snake salsa.  Buried the remains and then noticed that my ears weren't ringing.  I always thought that was the oddest part of the incident

I've carried a .22 Magnum in a pocket holster since the mid 80's and the other day I was pondering the fact that I had 5 spare rounds in a nice little pouch that there's no way I'd be able to reload at more than a leisurely pace.

I need 2 or 3 more mini 8)

Stories / Re: prayer at a football game

Matthew 6:5-6: "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men....when thou prayest, enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret...."

The list rather baffles me.  There are 4 Glocks but at #9 he says he included only the Kel Tec because it was the "grandfather" of all polymer .380's.

I assume that 1911 patterns have levers to flip but then so does his #5 pick,  the S&W M&P .45

Then there's the previously noted SA nature of the mini revolver.

Honestly I think he just wrote an article justifying his own personal collection of handguns.

I am trying to put together in my mind the exact process that would occur in the event of using a load of ratshot or worse a blank as the first round.

What I conceive is the shooter letting fly with the underpowered round then standing there waiting to see what happens next.

I really can't see that being a good plan.

As for myself I load solids and fully intend to put two or three rounds on the bridge of the perps nose.

Firing a blank would constitute assault in addition to a brandishing charge.

I believe that the article by Jeff Cooper that grandpa was refering to was regarding "shot cocking" the DA auto pistol and the late Colonel was emphatic that the shot was not wasted but was fully intended to strike something.

The procedure as I recall it from my few trips to Gunsite was that the first shot from a DA auto was fire in a point shooting style to be followed by more careful attention to the flash sight picture and trigger control on the 2nd shot.

This would have nothing at all that'd be appicable to using a blank in the first hole in your cylinder
