Stories / Re: WHAT'S THAT SMELL?
October-29-14 16:10
The cardboard smell of the box a new gun is in.
#3
I think if I had a wife and a girlfriend I dang sure would not give either of them a gun?
#4
I'm afraid if I had a gun like that on my belt buckle I would be walking around like Micheal Jackson with a hand on my crotch most of the time.

There was a guy that posted some buckles he had made on here a few months ago that had a real solid retaining system. Try looking it up. His even had a speed loader built into it.

Even though I have never handled one, the NAA ones seem to be made out of a poor cast metal like a lot of the "less expensive" belt buckles you can buy.

Those Stags are "good stuff" right there. You know I love my stags. Fine job OV!
#6
Are you talking about the clerk at Walmart? All the ones around here usually could not tell you where they s--t last, much less anything of real importance.
#7
I see now that you understand what I'm saying OV. Tack heads at 10 yards? No. A snakes head at 10? That is the tool I need to have in my pocket. If anyone thinks they can consistantly and I mean consistantly hit a 1" dot at 10 yards without acquiring some kind of a sight picture then I'm calling BS. Instinctively hitting a target lets say the size of a human head or center mass at 10 yards? Simple enough with practice.
#8
Some had rather adjust themselves to fit the tool, I just prefer to adjust the tool to fit me. It just seems to me that some on here are afraid to make alterations to these little guns for fear they will loose value. These things are inexpensive (that is why most of us can own several of them). Now would I file, drill, sand, or whittle on a $15,000 double rifle? Maybe not (but then again I prob would if it made it work better for me), but these are $250 little guns. If they cost twice that much most of us would be afraid to stick them in our front pockets with our keys and loose change.

Now if a person does not have the tools, skills, or desire to work on one of these guns then they are left with no other choice than to adapt to the way it comes out of the box. But if you have a few simple tools, some basic metal shop skills and an adventurous mind then don't be scared to use them.

I'll say once again that if you want to buy these guns to use for "trade" at a later time or think they are some sort of investment for profit then buy them and keep them locked in the box. Don't carry them or shoot them.
#9
To each his own but I like all my firearms to have the same sight picture as I like my watch and all the clocks in the house to show the same time. I just don't like trying to remember which one is correct and which one is 5 mins slow or fast. As with clocks, if I can adjust them I will just to save any confusion.
#10
If you buy the gun thinking you may want to "trade" it later then don't file the sights, don't even shoot it for that matter. If you are buying it to carry and use as I do all my guns then break out the file and adjust the sight to where it shoots right for you. I have filed all of mine. Once you get the little gun "shooting right" for your style you prob will not feel a desire to trade it. If you don't make it fit you then you will prob feel the need to trade or sell it. With the exception of the Breaktop, these guns are not big trade commodities to start with.

I look at my minis as a "pocket knife with some punch". It is carried everyday used to dispatch undesirable critters. Just as some may pull out the knife they use as a tool to whittle to pass some time, my mini may be pulled out to "plink" to pass time.

These little guns are very handy and lots of fun. Buy one, practice with it, modify it to suit your needs and just enjoy carrying and useing it.

Can't go wrong with a 1 5/8" Conversion.

good job, they were a limited run gun and no longer made, most here love them, doing a quick google search, I was disillusioned to find there are some others not happy with them. I have six naa's and have become extremely proficient with them shooting golf balls out to 25 feet

You seem to shoot a lot of golf balls. How do they taste, and what is the best method of skinning them?

I want the Pug-style tritium night sights on my Black Widow, as well.

I was told that the dovetails for the Pug and BW/MM sights aren't incompatible? Is this correct? I can't fathom having two different sets of dovetails as they're made from the same stock.

Perhaps they will become available one day? I'd like trits. The BW/MM non adjustable sights are some of the best carry sights I've seen, with the only ding coming from low light performance. Oh well, that's why I carry the flaslight(s).  :)

Power went out the other night. I spent enough time picking out what light to use that the power came back on.  ;D

...in search of more light.

IDEA!!!!!

Ooh! Ooh! We need a Black Widow tac-light that's just like the Venom Laser! I want that very, very badly!

The dovetails are different but there is a company that will do it. Forget the name but I think they quoted me $175 and 2 week turn around time. This is an option I would like to have as well but not "That" Bad. Would rather have a drop in that some manufacturer could just send me.

All ammo has its limitations, from the smallest to the largest, and all shooters have their limitations as well. It is the job of the one behind the trigger to know the limitations of both and how they relate to put a value on their effectiveness. An ineffective round for one may be very effective for another as a round that may seem to be overkill for some would be totally worthless in the hands of another.

One mans "elephant gun" could very well be another's "pea shooter"!

Were you aiming for the center?  ;D

No offense but doesn't everybody aim for center?

Guess it depends on what you are defending yourself against? For me and 2 legged critters or bigger 4 legged it would be Gold Dots. For critters with no legs or the smaller 4 legged ones it would be 2 CCI shotshells followed by 3 Maxi Mag +V HP's. Yes I carry 2 minis every day.
#17
Yep I like that too!!!

From experience get the best you can afford, and start saving your money for the one you really need. I've got $1500 scopes on $500 rifles. But when it comes to hunting, spend the most money on your binoculars. Can't shoot what you can't see.

You got that one right!

Could be worse. The cast could have been up past the elbows. Would have made it real hard to wipe, much less defend yourself. Welcome.

Thanks for all the excellent answers, everyone!  This is one of the best forearms forums I've ever seen.  Everyone is nice and y'all seem to keep the nasty comments to a minimum.

Thank you!

You are most welcome here! Just don't ask to see pics of all our FOREARMS!!
Just kidding. Glad we can help!

To me they are actually useful when modified something like this.

Ruger Single Six. And it is still my favorite.

Weight concerns are for good reason for the person that has that reason. I have done a lot of high mountain backpack hunting and build my own rifles for that purpose as well as select my gear carefully with weight and utility as the sole consideration. I'm the guy that started off several years ago cutting the handle off my toothbrush because I saw no need for the extra weight.

Whatever reason one has for being concerned with weight of something they carry is fully understandable to me.

I would like to hear any positive experience with these lasers. Would consider buying one to put on for night time woods excursions. Are they set pretty close to poi t of impact or is that anothe issue to deal with along with the switch?

If I am interested in someone's product and send an email asking a question that does not get answered in a reasonable amount of time? I have no further interest in their product. sorry if that sounds wrong to anyone, but that is not a good start on a business deal no matter how good your product may be.

I carry 2, a 1 5/8" mini mag and a 2" widow, at all times. They are either in my front pockets, in my boots, on my belt, or on my nightstand. All methods are used with the same homemade holsters.
#28
I agree with the timing issue spoken of by ikoiko, and Mr22.

Hello Joe!

1) Accuracy... in a NAA mini... Ha ha ah.. Ooh I'm sorry. No it makes no difference in accuracy. ;) (They are fun to shoot and shoot well enough for there purposes. If accuracy" is needed look at the Black Widow, Earl (1860) and Mini Masters.

The Minis can be accurate with a modification or 2. As with any firearm the longer the sight plane the easier it becomes for the guy behind the trigger to put the rounds where he wants. This does not mean the gun is really more accurate just easier to put and hold on target.

The front sight that comes on both the 1 1/8" and the 1 5/8" mini to me are useless out of the box. But if you file them down to where they just stick up a little off the barrel they can be used well (see in the pic). This is really easy to do.

Secondly with either of the lengths you have to be sure the crown is square with the bore.

I defiantly understand the desire to be able to look at the back of the cylinder. One to check for safety notch location. And I also have the need to be able look at the back to check which bullet is next in rotation, ( one of my minis I carry 2 rat shots loaded first for dispatching snakes).

I doubt if the first firearms were used to shoot beer cans.

LOL Unc, I bet it was not long after they started stirring them in shoe boxes though.

Well that about says it all. It does not matter what I would have to add to it because the media would just distort what is being said to use it to make a horrific story that most liberals love listening to.
#34
If you are useing it to shoot beer cans or targets then it is a toy!!! If you are useing it to shoot open a lock or something like that it is a Tool. If you are useing it to defend yourself, wether it be from a crackhead or a snake then it is a Weapon! Other than that is is just merely a Firearm!

Very Well put, don't forget that at our age we would not be getting out expecting someone to pay for our college either.
