Interesting post Mike.  I was just wondering how some CCI "Quiet" 22LR ammo would do from my Magnum frame with a 1 5/8" barrel.  From my rifles this ammo delivers sub-par accuracy at anything beyond 15 yards. From my Ruger single six it does OK out to 20 yards.

Anyone tried CCI quiet ammo in an NAA Mini?

I've had my mini Magnum convertible since May of 20012.  I carry it more than any other handgun.  Sometimes it is the primary gun, due to simply always being there, mostly it is the back up or second gun depending on circumstances.  Trust, yes, as much as you can trust a mechanical device.

Sent it in for a "tune up" on 7-6-15, it was back in my hand today, 7-13-15, with all new springs and a new hand. The price of shipping, and going without for a few days is all it cost.  Great customer service backing up a great product.  It doesn't get any better than that.

I was in the process of pumping gas when I became aware of a young man approaching much closer than I prefer.  He said "sir, I ran out of gas just down the road and was wondering if you could spare some change so I could get some gas"  The entire time he was talking he kept walking toward me, until my hand slid into my pocket.  Suddenly he stopped advancing, and was able to stand up straight and look me face on, instead of looking around the otherwise empty gas station lot.  I told him I did not carry cash.  He backed away several feet and then walked away very quickly, saying not another word.  I finished my business, and just to verify my suspicions, drove a mile down the rural highway in the direction the young man had indicated.  No vehicle in sight.  I turned around, and drove back the other way, the direction my planned route would take me normally. About 1/2 a block the other side of the gas station I had left (the only one in town) I saw him walking with three other young men (ages 18 to 25 or so) and headed to the tobacco store.  Still not sure of his intentions, but I was very comforted by that little .22 Mag NAA in my front pocket.

Morally correct, IMO, but under KY law (I only know KY and some of Indiana's laws) he would be arrested and lose his CCW permit

Louie is correct...
Agrizzlyman has a great idea, look for firearms instructors in your area, and meet with them and talk with them, try out different guns that friends and instructors have and will let you shoot.

IMO you are going to have issues with all handguns.  DA trigger pulls are running as high as 9 pounds so even those without disabilities have a hard time with these (staying on target).  Cocking a single action, at least with small light weight handguns, requires a certain level of dexterity.

Recoil with the mini is not enough to hurt anyone, but you must be able to hold on to the gun, they jump more than anything.  You tube has several videos of people shooting these and you can see the recoil for yourself.

Good Luck with this one, I hope you are able to find something that will work for you.

Louie,
The length of the magnum mini frame should work fine with the .32 acp (maybe even the LR frame).  I am curious how much thicker the frame, and bigger around the cylinder would need to be to accommodate the .32 acp.  While it would make a curious gun, I wonder if it would make it too thick to hide easily.  IMO the strong point of the mini is the ease of hiding them.

Just curious

Hello tascofeldman,
I'm really curious why you are wanting the LR or a convertible that you will only shoot in LR configuration.  Other than being quieter than the magnum, and having slightly less recoil (not that I consider either to have any kick) the LR just does not seem to have any benefits over the magnum when used in a magnum framed gun with a conversion cylinder.  Earlier this year I was looking at my first mini purchase.  I chose the convertible model with the 1 5/8 barrel.  When I'm just plinking I sometimes use the LR cylinder, but 99% of the time I keep the magnum cylinder in it, and shoot more magnums than LR.  As for ammo selection, solid point (or round nose) would tend to penetrate deeper, where the hollow points (assuming they will open) will tend to not penetrate as deeply.  The magnum 22's seem to have the velocity advantage, which should make them a better choice for defensive purposes.

Welcome to the forum.

Sidewinders are expected sometime next year.

Prepurchase list is long passed, but you might try calling customer service, the number is listed here: http://northamericanarms.com/customer-service.html

The break tops are sadly out  of production.  You might find one on an auction site, or at an estate sale.

Ok a vote is not enough, fine.  Leave the gun as is!! Offer the option of aftermarket shield if needed, for the rest of us, leave it alone.

Ruptured case?? Seriously? That is an ammo issue, not a gun issue. I have fired hundreds of thousands of rounds of rimfire ammo over my lifetime, and I have never seen a case rupture that was properly chambered, and the firing pin was not sharpened.  Yes the size of the Mini puts your hand closer to the cylinder gaps, both at the barrel (where the powder residue comes from on some) and the breech block end.  If a fired case ruptures out of battery there has been a serious malfunction and a shield would do nothing more than re-direct all the debris into your hand.

As for the powder residue (the black that some get on their hand after firing their mini), I haven't had any black on my hands after firing my mini.  I have the 22 Magnum frame with both cylinders.  I have fired around 300 rounds combined of the shorts, long rifle, and magnum rounds.  Mine has the 1 5/8" barrel, that and the larger frame may be what is keeping my hands clean.

yes, all of the ones I have seen look about like that.  As long as it shoots like it should (accurate for what it is) I say don't worry about it.

I've been carrying my mini magnum daily for months while doing everything from running into town to get groceries to hunting to cutting and splitting firewood.  Well today when I was done running the chain saw I found my pockets full of saw dust...the pocket holster was packed pretty full, and there is a bunch packed around the cylinder...Oh well.

I didn't know the made them that way!  I will have to get one like that and then retire my old Mini LR to my bug out bag.  It be nice if the made the 22 Mag casing the same diameter and just longer than the LR then we could interchange them just like a LR and a 22 Short Round.  I had a BUNCH of shorts I inherited from my grandfather and I used them up in my mini.

I bought mine as a Magnum with a conversion cylinder:
http://northamericanarms.com/firearms/magnums/mag/mc.html

I shoot both cylinders (some times on the same outing) for practice, but only carry with the magnum cylinder.  I've lost track of the exact number of shots fired, but there has been a box and a half of shorts, a couple boxes of LR, plus some old loose rounds I had laying around, and three boxes of magnum 22's (Winchester and Fiocchi).  All are equally accurate holding 4 of 5 shots on a drink can out to 15 yards.

The larger frame (compared to the LR frame) is still easily concealed in a pocket.

Perfect example of why these are useful and why regular practice is needed.  Glad this went your way, and good shootin'!

I don't know guys, you have a good point, but with nothing to hide, and having never done anything worse than speeding I find some friendly banter seems to calm everyone down.  Even when I am getting a ticket, or stopped at a drunk check.

Now if questioned outside of what would be normal, yes shut up and get a lawyer.

you can fix minor screw head slips by filing and then re-cutting the groove with a needle file.  Re-blue it with cold blue (first application will only gray the metal)

short barrel mini LR with a wasp hammer and standard fluted cylinder...can't decide if I like it, or really like it...

Sounds like a slight timing issue to me, with the hammer hitting the edge of the cylinder instead of just the rim of the cartridge.  The hammer and cylinder showing damage due to mis-alignment.

Good shootin!! With one hand hold I can hit drink can ends (can laid on side target is the end of the can) at 15 feet measured, and with two hand hold (slow fire) hit the same target at 15 feet.

   Neat idea with the hammer.

LOL,  I just remembered an instance where my youthful zeal earned me the attention of a police department some 400 miles from my home.

I was working for a company that re-built and serviced ATM's.  We had a bank customer that was not happy with a new machine, so we rushed to build up a replacement, finishing up right at normal quitting time.  Our box van was 16 hours in the wrong direction to use to deliver the machine 500 miles away.  I volunteered to use my personal truck to make the run.  We loaded up the ATM phoned the bank, and our field service tech and we agreed to meet at the bank at 6:30 the next morning.

I got into town, and found the bank at around 2:30 am.  So I just backed the truck into a spot close to the bank building, shut the truck off, and prepared to take a nap while waiting.

Well the guy doing patrol duty that night came by...

I spent the night waiting for someone to answer a phone and  verify my unbelievable story.   Luckily I never was much of a trouble maker.
